Listening to you talk about your experience and mindset in pediatric oncology and I have to pause the video for a minute and say- as a mom of an 18-year-old son with lymphoma who’s been inpatient for 60+ days now: it’s nurses who truly have a heart for it like you do who make our day. ♥️
@KiaraMadisen7 ай бұрын
Aww thank you Shannon! It’s kind people like you who make our jobs 1000% better. Sending the very best wishes to you & your son, I know how long the days feel. Each one is a victory, hang in there 💓

Your patients are truly so lucky to have you. It is not an easy job to walk side by side with death and yet nurses, and many in the medical field, do it every day. They way you talked about wanting to honour patients who have passed is absolutely beautiful. Very happy you've been able to find solace in your ski coaching; it is definitely a necessity as a nurse. Congrats on moving to day shift!! Wishing you nothing but the best moving forward, you deserve it! 💖

Thank you so much for this video Kiara! I want to thank nurses everywhere for doing what they do. I just finished chemotherapy treatment at a pediatric hospital in January and the time I spent there was so incredibly rough, but the nurses are what shine through all the bad. I have so many wonderful memories with amazing nurses. They are the reason I am now studying to become a Nurse and hopefully going the Peds Hem/Onc route! Cancer changed my life in a lot of negative ways, but I got to squeeze some positives out of it with the help of so many amazing nurses. ❤

I am so glad you have shared all the tips and tricks with us. As a last semester nursing student I am looking forward to staring my job as a pediatric bone marrow transplant nurse at my dream hospital as well. Pediatric oncology is a nursing passion of mine. As a childhood cancer survivor of osteosarcoma I knew going into nursing was something I waned to do ever since my remission. I hope to care for my future patients in the way my amazing oncology nurses cared of me all those years ago. It is that dream that pushed me to keep going in school despite many setbacks including failing pharm my first semester. You are an amazing role model for many future nurses and I aspire to be a great nurse like you one day. Thank you for sharing your journey and being raw and honest about what new grad nursing like. Wishing you all the best in your nursing journey : )

Kiara, I'm so proud of you for applying your gifts to such a worthy cause that needs energetic and thoughtful people like you. My family was affected by childhood cancer, and I feel from watching your videos the last few years that you are the special kind of person who must bring a lot to the table as a nurse in this specialty. It's hard to explain with words how upsetting and unfair illness can be, but you are imparting strength and hope on these kids' and families' difficult journeys and that means more than words can say. Lastly, I can understand why there would be some days where it all feels like way too much, which is why I'm glad you're still doing such a great job prioritizing your self care and activities that recharge you. Please continue being kind to yourself at all costs, your happiness is very important whatever you choose to do!

Kiara! I have followed you since your 2019 study tips videos and riding along your journey has been wonderful. Hearing that you work hem/onc and BMT really made me comment! I had a bone marrow transplant when I was five (in 2008), and I don't remember much, but I do remember the nurses who spent the most time with me vividly (and fondly, they were extremely kind). The only reason I'm writing this is so that you know kids will remember you fifteen years down the line and be so grateful for everything you did for them, especially because you're there in the "worst" times. It is so great hearing that you've followed this path and I wish you the very best :)

Happy One Year!! Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. I am planning to enroll in nursing school next Fall. Watching so many positive and negative vlogs, I'm kind of overwhelmed, confused, can't decide if I will be a good fit for nursing. I have one question, how do you deal with daily hazards like ill behavior/bullying/needle stuck injuries ? please advice.
@KiaraMadisen5 ай бұрын
I remember this feeling SO well. Understand that each journey is unique and you can find a specialty in nursing that suits all of your skills which is amazing! I have developed a group of people I trust at work and can vent to about the mean people (and I stand up to them so they know they can't push me around), I haven't has a needle stick injury yet because I have a system in place for when I draw meds and give injections that works for me, but the truth is, as nurses yes we get exposed to things, but it isn't the first time anything like that has happened, so there are systems in place to deal with it and you're so close to the ED 😂 Hope that helps, I highly recommend shadowing if you get the opportunity!
