So an idea is if there are passive mobs nearby, it can kill them and leave a body behind to show he was there cause it feels a little weird how it only goes for the player. Also it would be cool if you have it able to dig into the ground and move to the player like scp 106

IDEA: Animal hunting mechanic. Each time the Blind Wanderer spawns, it may hunt and kill a single nearby livestock mob (cow, sheep, pig, chicken, horse etc.) and leave a dead animal in its place. For the sake of making it more elusive and preventing animals from distracting it from the player, it should only hunt animals if it's like 64 blocks away or so from the closest player. This makes it feel more organic and alive, without having to make it more difficult or giving it a bunch of new behaviors.

So I think if he hears you when you're within a certain range, he should "search" around the last noise he heard. Maybe make him smart and "follow" the direction of multiple sounds, aka following a line from oldest to newest sound, or whatever. Idk if that's possible or too difficult though. Right now it seems too easy to avoid him even if you make a noise near him, so giving him some way to "track" or "hunt" you would be awesome.

Hey Pixelcoder! You know Shut your eyes? It has an eye shutting mechanic. Why not add a "stop breathing" mechanic. You'll have to hold your breath whenever you're close to the blind wanderer. And add a limit to not breathing like drowning (take damage when not breathing for too long)

Two ideas: once in a while, rather than spawning, he'll mute all audio for the player for a time so they can't hear anything until the effect wears off. The other is a hunting mode. So when he spawns, he waits, maybe have him screech as a warning. When he hears a sound, he rushes the source, maybe even breaks it if it was a block.

Hmm, I've a few ideas for something like this. 1. Make it so he doesn't just attack the player, but anything within short range of him, so it's not just you he's after, but anything to eat, could be he's hungry. (To continue this, maybe he has his own hunger meter or something of the sort that causes him to attack other things) 2. He'll search around an area sound was heard at a slightly higher speed, before slowing down if nothing is found. 3. Anything made by the player would be detected as 'new' in the area, causing him to search the area, since it's something that wasn't there before, making building a home a little more dangerous. 4. Leave some sort of sign he was there, and some way to possibly distract him.

If it’s not like this already, the different sounds it can hear should have different volume levels, and it should prioritize louder sounds, but then it should also switch to prioritizing quiet sounds if it suspects you are trying to hide from it and are throwing distractions at it.

I got 2 great suggestions!! First one is having leaves/sticks generate on the ground that will make noise if walked over, and second it would be cool if you could use sand to suppress footsteps like in "a quiet place"

i really like the idea of having to anticipate the monster and actively do things to distract its attention, like strategically placing/breaking blocks a distance from your base to keep him occupied. it’s a really unique and fun way of adding interactivity and having the creature feel like a living, thinking creature!

I had an idea.. What if there was a mod that is primarily a sound ambience mod, but has something similar to this creature in forests as well. The way the creature is announced is any and all birds stop chirping suddenly, kind of like in real life when they know predators are present. Along with any other noises the creature makes. It Could also be interesting to make animals freeze in place and start shivering, and make animals start scampering as if they've been hit when it gets near. Which in turn causes the creature to attack them since they're making noise, leaving a corpse block for ambience when it dies and drops rotten flesh when broken. (Kind of like that Spore: Fungal Infection mod when an infected creature starves to death.)

I think it would be reslly cool if he could "smell" the player since he is blind all his scenes should be hightened like if he is within a certain distance of a player he could make a sniffing sound which could warn the player they are too close to him and should back off! Also incredible work all around keep up the amazing horror mods! I find its been a bit much often but yours are always amazing and refreshing compared to some other stuff!

2 things I could think of you adding. 1. Skipping stones that are crafted using a single stone slab to get around 16 of them that are thrown to distract the Wanderer and can skip across water as a bonus. 2. Something similar to what was seen in the movie "A quite place" where if you walk on sand it is harder for the Wanderer to hear you and flowing water can drown out certain sounds you make such as walking. Also isn't this monster kinda just a reskined creepier version of the Warden but above ground?

It's so cool to watch your animation skill improve in real time! Keep up the good work man :) Edit: Here's an idea: if the monster is ~18 blocks form the player, play a sniffing animation. At the end of this sniffing animation, TBW will place a "waypoint" on the player's location. If the waypoint is ~14 blocks or closer, TBW will start creeping toward it at ~0.15 blocks-per-second. If the waypoint is within 8 blocks of TBW, this creeping will go the whole 8 blocks to the waypoint. If the waypoint is farther than 8 blocks at the end of the sniff (but closer than 14), TBW will travel 6 blocks in the direction of the waypoint before "losing interest" and walking away from it. Of course all these distances are completely made up and should be tweaked. The idea here is that TBW has a relatively strong sense of smell, but not as strong as his hearing. Also, after placing a waypoint, TBW's pathfinding to said waypoint should have some random noise in a 30 degree cone, so that TBW moves to it in an unnaturally inefficient, and thus unnerving, way. Feel free to ask for more explanation if you don't understand some of my sucky writing xD

So I’ve got an idea for you… there’s this thing that sperm whales can do irl where their clicks can paralyze people in the water with them, even ones that are far away. So maybe it has some kind of echolocation that it uses on you if it knows you’re there, that would stun you briefly (can’t move or break blocks, so an equivalent to slowness and mining fatigue, maybe a brief deafening and nausea effect as well but that’s up to you ofc) and do some true damage. So like he would use it the moment he aggros whoever or whatever he’s about to attack. The paralysis would probably only last for like 2-3 seconds, and the nausea and deafness would be longer. I’d imagine the damage would have to be like 10 true damage to keep it dangerous. It would only use this move the moment it initially aggros its prey, so it wouldn’t repeat it until it aggros again, or maybe he only uses it once a day or something. That’s the idea. Keep cooking 👍

No please don't add a "yeah you die" mechanic, that's dumb. True damage has been the dumbest thing added into the game since forever. The paralysis and other effects are fine, but letting him instantly remove half of your health bar the moment he spots you is a death sentence. Think of the people who will actually want to play with those things, some even on hardcore, true damage is just a bullshit way to kill them, especially for something that spawns everywhere.

@@f0x1ro1 The problem is that, with horror based creatures, it’s hard for them to stay dangerous for even late-game players, who are basically demigods with enchanted netherite armor and don’t take damage from anything. It doesn’t have to be 10 damage, it can be less. But if not true damage, then there has to be some kind of way to keep this creature a threat no matter what stage of gameplay you’re at.

@@nathanielcallen3965 And why is that? Making it a threat to an endgame player means making it basically a killswitch for a starting/midgame player. Example - deep dweller. Its both annoying and unfairly(in my opinion) hard to fight or escape. It breaks torches around it, teleports from time to time, and then when it spots you, has an okay damage in melee... But then also has a "one time" sonic beam. If you are a player with iron armor and even a shield, who went into the mine for literally any reason, and that thing just randomly finds you(like it happened to me once, when it literally spawned right behind me), you get hit a few times, escape, and then get finished by a shriek that ignores all armor or shield. You have to understand that at that point in time, I had 0 chance of killing it. Maybe if I used my shield perfectly to block it, and then hit back, I could survive, but that was just it for me, I could barely escape even though I had a parkour mod, and then got finished by the unblockable "one time" sonic beam. Thats not good design. Plus to all that, they are endgame players exactly because they encountered this shit before and played through it in the early and middlegame. I'd much rather have an enemy that was an extreme threat to me in the beginning and "midgame", and then feel like I prevailed and hunted it down in lategame, than have an enemy that's basically a death sentence in early and midgame, and then an extreme threat that will still kill you easily in lategame. Here's the thing, it doesn't have to be a threat to be scary, everything will stop being scary when you get used to it, it will just become an annoying warden-like enemy for those exact endgame players eventually, so instead of making it annoying, make it a thing they can deal with, and prevail over instead of just running away each time. I repeat, true damage is bad design. Make it immortal, and add an effect or an item that counters that, and let endgame players work for it. A hard to craft potion that can block that can damage, or weaken the mob when thrown. A weapon that deals damage to it, or scares it, or makes it weaker... Anything. That's much more interesting than an instakill switch, or a gapple/totem waster. Make it a hunter that eventually becomes prey.

First Impressions: The sound-based gimmick reminds me of the Warden. This creature seems very similar to the Warden, but it isn't bound to the Sculk. I think there's still room to make him more different than the Warden-maybe he can hear your mic(as you said), or maybe his sense of smell is much stronger than the Warden's, and he'll be able to sniff you out if you killed something(covered in the scent of blood) or if you're under a certain threshold of HP(also the scent of blood). Also, maybe make him attack other mobs-maybe passive mobs? Passive mobs could go silent when he's nearby, if that was the case.

that's an interesting concept. I have several suggestions. He may not be able to see, but I think you could also make him be able to feel thermal radiation from sources like furnace, torches, and lava (maybe within a 16 block distance) and will randomly decide to check them out to see if anyone is nearby. He is able to hear other mob sounds and maybe decide to interact to it. He should be able to hear you walking when he is close, but he could only hear you sprinting, closing doors, or breaking blocks when he is far enough away. So, basically what he could hear tapers off with distance. This make it feel scarier, not knowing where he is relative to the player.

That is terrifying, I love it. I think if it were to be able to track a short list of the previous blocks and pick one at random to target would be an interesting concept. I look forward to seeing how it turns out, I'm a coward so I'll just be watching other people XD Also, you mentioned making more mods. I'd like to pitch an idea for consideration. Tbh its probably more funny than scary, but for a lack of a better name I call it the Mariah Carey Deweller. With christmas on the way, I feel like it would be hilarious to have a mob that on occasion does the "uuuhHhH I" echo from I don't want a lot for christmas and/or sleigh bells. Maybe the mob is just standing in the distance watching when it happens. And when the mob goes full hunting mode. It just blasts 'YOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUU" and chases you. I feel like it would be hilarious. Thats more or less it, thanks for humoring me.

Give it a feature where, if it touches the player without detecting them, it will trying to figure out what the player is, as if curious before eventually moving on. If the player makes ANY movement during this phase, the Blind Wanderer will attack.

I think adding more hints of the blind wanderer actually being in your world could be a nice touch to unsettle the player especially before the wanderer is even spotted by the player. Seeing something scary is one thing, but knowing something is in your world before seeing it is infinitely more terrifying.

If it makes loud noise for you in game it should hear it. (Eating, jumping, mining soft blocks) If something really loud happens (tool break, mining hard objects, moving on leaves, or falling from to high) make it sprint to the location like in a Quiet Place. RN it just seems to easy to avoid, all you had to do was get in a tree and not move all night and it wouldn't get you.

Let the entity hear us on Simple Voicechat, it's fun. Also recommend it to spawn at random times rather than every night makes it less annoying for some players who wants to finish building their base and the player wouldnt expect the entity spawning they would just feel tense at night. It would be cool for the creature to add new sounds, rather than loud sounds like most mods, maybe whispering/whistling when you are wandering in the woods trying to find you (like death from puss and boots the last wish movie). It reminds me quiet place, If the one who watches can break doors, maybe add the entity to also break doors but have a cool looking animation when it climbs on walls/fences when ur on a stacked up tower (like a watchtower) when the creature knows where you are!

Thanks for the creative and unique horror mods! Suggestion: This is a little similar to A Quiet Place, maybe add in a few features to make it more unique. A mercy period would also be good, buildup is important.

It might be an interesting idea to code the game's sounds having certain intensities, and the Wanderer becomes more agressive the higher the sound intensity around him. Stuff like hostile mob noises and player noises set him off more than, say, just walking around or passive animal sounds.

I feel like if he spawns when there's hostile mobs around that begin attacking you, that it would become a little annoying. So why not come up with a "Truce" system. When the Blind Wanderer spawns, hostile mobs go into a hiding mode aswell, where they'll move much slower, as if they were sneaking aswell, aswell as instead of trying to attack you, are trying to go to a corner with a low enough light level. This I feel like would fit well with passive mobs too, who go into hiding aswell. Also gives you a chance to notice he is coming, if you happened to miss the audio that plays when he spawns.

idea; maybe make him alert when you or walk, and maybe (I don’t know if this kinda thing is even possible) but give him a caution phase, where he won’t despawn for the next minute and he will be constantly advancing towards you. also maybe make him more similar to the warden where if you walk on wool or carpet, he won’t hear your walking or jumping but he will hear your sprinting. and maybe make him aggro towards monsters and critters? would be nice also i love his walking animations, actually fire

Code in a way to eat quietly but as a result it increases your eating time by 10x, meaning it'd take 16s to eat (it's 16.1 if we're going with how it should be, but an extra 0.1s is pointless) This would also work with drinking time. You could also make it so you could place down blocks slower which wouldn't make it completely quiet, but 2x quieter instead, the block placing speed would be halved, this could also work with mining, but it'd take 3x longer and wouldnt make any noise once broken. By throwing an item you also make sound so you can risk him attacking you when you are too close, you could make it so you could throw quietly but it'd make the throwing distance 5x smaller(10 blocks). These could all be configured in the settings to toggle on and off or with a keybind.

Oh that is HORRIFYING so far, I love it!! I think it'd be neat if the blind wanderer could sometimes get "distracted" by other sounds then the player's! For example, having it so if a sheep jumps in water it makes it go over to the sound of the splash, or if a mob takes damage, it'll start approaching that area. Maybe additionally have it so there are distraction options? I personally like the idea that an activated note block or a jukebox with a music disc would "distract" the creature, but maybe only temporarily? So if you wanted to trap it for example, you'd have to be smart about it-- It could destroy note blocks or jukeboxes, and if they're out of its reach, maybe have it so if it hears the sound for too long it gains an immunity period to the sound or something. I'm not actually sure how good or possible these ideas are?? But I hope they at least sound interesting!!

I know these are some long shot ideas, but if you end up having a lot of free time XD - When he’s roaming through a hallway/forest and he detects blocks he passes at his height then have him touch them as if he’s holding himself up from his unknown surrounding. - maybe have there be a rare chance he spawns with a lantern and when he hears a player making movement he sets the lantern down and moves faster toward the sound - Have him detect suck sensors like the Warden I hope these ideas help the creation of him and brightens other ideas

Don't usually engage with much Minecraft horror stuff anymore but the design drew me in. Visuals: He kinda reminds me of Alien Isolation's Xenomorph not just from design but the reliance on sound. I'd maybe lean into that feeling by giving him a weird spine shaped like an S or something just unnatural with his head at it's peak. The animations could use some work and give off the vibe he's lurking slowly waiting for the smallest noise with that same kinda hunch the Alien has. Perhaps every now and then he moves his head at weird angles like he's focusing for that sound maybe even give that clicking an animation for if you're able to get really close to him because that is always the worst part of a blind monster is getting close and knowing how screwed you are if you make a noise. Mechanics: It's a little early to judge but I think if it's gonna go off sound it should always instead of just using it to find and being able to pathfind normally when it's heard you. Personally, I'd go for some charge kind of mechanic where it charges with intent to rip you to shreds in its teeth but can be fooled into just charging into regular blocks or maybe even blocks which can hurt it and make it back off temporarily. Maybe it could break noteblocks if it just keeps going and so while you could use noteblocks to lure it away from you, it'd not always be fooled and eventually break it so it can focus. I'd also maybe adjust how it spawns and it being a choice of some kind for some greater reward but that might be my personal taste with horror mods coming in where I'm not fond of them being a constant menace at all times and instead being more situational. So far though I'll admit I'm excited to see where the Wanderer goes in its development as the design itself is sick and I think blind monsters are always fun and spooky.

Maybe something like Xynomir (ZIE-no-meer) would fit better, as it really has that alien look to it. But if you don't want to change it, it's understandable it's your monster. I have 3 suggestions - Make him sprint towards you if he hears you - Make it so you can't counter him by just towering up - Add a config file letting players change how often he spawns so people who make horror modpacks won't have to deal with him every night

What I think would be neat is if he's just a pale white figure when it's day time but only spawns very rarely during the day. His hearing is also worse during that time. Other idea would be to model him off of the blind, white cannibals from Sons Of The Forest and also give him similar walking animations. That would make him even more creepy imo. Faint screeching sounds would be best suited for him I think. A higher spawn radius from the player would be cool to so it actually sounds like he's further away but coming closer with every block placed or step taken. 4:45 simple voice integration would be terrifying with this, I know there is a sculk sensor integration mod for that one so it's def possible... imagine if it had volume style hearing, like how the quiet place game has for everything and voice... actually would be cool if this added ambient sounds that was like weather, and based on location. like, being next to a waterfall or quite a bit of running water would make it so you would have a bit more leeway for making sounds or stuff. either way, this mod is neato, and has potential(I haven't seen the rest so I don't know what else it can do, or what you intend to do if anything else with the mod~)

The Knight of Peak returns and he’s brought a funny dog with him! And only a couple minutes in, that sound design is SCRUMPTIOUS. So not only are they going to be an auditory fiend when it comes to hunting us down for being loud, their trills and growls are going to be spine tingling! The clicking before the low growls are real nice and give the sense of a large beast using echolocation to hunt and that’s really clever. 👀 As an audio production grunt, kudos! Oh I can’t wait! My only suggestion is seeing if there’s any probable way to get this working with the Simple Voice Chat mod. Imagine reactability based on voice dB 🤔 It’d make it such an interesting mod for multiplayer. Don’t know if that’s possible but that’d be cool!!

THANK YOU! You don't even want to know how long it took me to figure out how to make his sounds. I had never made custom sfx before so I literally sat through like a 50 minutes monster sound lecture. It took me about 3 or 4 days just to figure out what I wanted him to sound like and actually figure out how to make that sound. And yes, if I can figure out how to add compatibility with simple voice chat I totally will!

Saw someone else comment abt finding dead animals and such, adding onto that maybe even having him attack other mobs??? Idk if it fits him, but it’d def be startling to suddenly hear a bunch of sheep or cow being killed in the distance randomly at night 😂 Idk but this guy looks absolutely jawdropping and im extremely excited to see more with him and even possibly play the most for myself, keep up the amazing work!!❤❤❤

A biome specific camouflaging mob would be really cool, for example when it's in a birch forest it would be white with black markings on it or in the plains it would be green, ect..

For a suggestion, I suggest you make it crawl upside down or just crawling hastely & creepily to the player when you made some VERYY loud sound or if it's in a cave. Just like the Death Angels from A Quiet Place. I find creepy crawlies genuinely creepy

Hears an idea but it might be a long one. He can hear you and see you through sound, and if he hears you and or sees you, he will make a roaring sound so uncomfortably haunting to a point you’d want to leave the server. And when he roars, the sky’s turns red, but the ground and everything else turns blacker then black, and these red waves on the ground is to indicate and give away you’re location to the creature, however it will also give his location away as well. No you CANNOT outrun him, but you can trap him with a boat and or a train cart. However he still has hypnosis, and if you look at him or if he appears on ANY side of the screen, he can control you, and make you come closer to him, finally putting an end to you’re life. He can also talk and fly whenever he feels like it, and he can be very VERY cunning, and he can spectate you even if you didn’t see him. He also has teleportation and INSANE durability like no other before, having better durability, resistance, and endurance then the warden and ender-dragon. He hits you once, it’s a one shot. He can also do more damage then the warden, and he also has a berserk rage mode where if he loses a lot of HP, he will go into this thermal firey like form, making him do even more dmg. To anything that can withstand some of his attacks, and he also has fire effect, which pretty much burns you faster then regular fire. Sounds like a boss threat ik, but this one sounds interesting. I’ll give you some other ideas later.

if you wanted to survive with this mod, with no doors, you'd probably do a doorway that the bottom and top block just has trapdoors, or one has I believe a slab, if you can crouch under one slab atleast, sure maybe baby mobs would get in, and you can rectify being shot or seen by other mobs by a small wall in front of it, but it'd work atleast for not having to open doors. I would say as well, if this mob also acts similar to sculk stuff and wardens, where carpet/wool doesn't alert them when you walk, run, or jump on it, wool/carpet floors and platforms(no stairs) would work. just means your home is more flamable than wood then technically but uhhhh... most you got to worry about is placing some lightning rods away from your home atleast XD!

don't really know if it'd be easy or possible, I've never made horror mods before, and the people that make them are incredibly talented, including you of course. My idea though would be for some sort of- echolocation type of thing, since I feel the Blind Wanderer is a bit too easy to avoid. an example would be clickers from The Last of Us, using their echolocation/clicking, to find and make their way towards their target. therefor if you get too close while its searching for you, it'll find you. and of course, if you're too loud it'll hear you. from afar it could sense you, using its echolocation to slowly find its way towards you, before actually figuring out where you are when its close enough and striking. of course, you could try sneaking away, but you'd have to be a little more strategic about it, use distractions and stuff to lure it away from you before you could escape. (sorry for the long comment lol)

Ok my ideas: Make this compatible to detect your microphone audio if people have the voice chat mod enabled (if possible), Give it the ability to swim and climb because most horror mods can't, other than that, would love to try the mod when it's released

I like how it spawns only at night. Here's a suggestion, make it so that he's hostile not just towards you. But also the other mobs like zombies, skeletons, spiders. I really felt like that zombie that was making noise near you, should of got bodied by him just for making noise. Make it so he's also hostile towards, villagers and animals to.

I think a unique mechanic you can add to this mod is to have throwable objects like snowballs to distract the blind wanderer and have him go to the sound of the snowball, that way there will be some sort of counterplay as long as its not aggro'd at the player, and I think another unique mechanic to add would be to have the blind wanderer go after other mobs that make sounds and attack them, that way for example, if a zombie were to be chasing you, the blind wanderer would hear that too and go towards you indirectly because of the zombie, which would increase the tension of him always having a way to be near you.

add a sound bar above the hotbar and it will let you know if the the monster is close or has not spawn yet "red for close, yellow for mildly close and green for far and white for has not spawn yet"

Idea 1: he should be able to destroy noise blocks so he can't get suck on a sound and so that players could use them to distract him away. Idea 2: you should be able to use snowballs and arrows to distract him away from you

When he spawns, make him (or her) the star of the show. What I mean by this, is that if your playing with other horror mods he either: A. Kills them B. Makes them unable to spawn. While other horror mods just jumpscare you most times or provide a sense of terror from far away. The Wanderer creates terror by being up in your face, but not kill you at first sight, instead they wait for you to slip up ONCE by making a bit too much noise. They also either scare mobs away or hunts them if they get in his way or make noise. And (since they didn't attack you) either bite and hold on to you, applying darkness while doing constant damage (to make them let go, just swipe at them a couple times, or wait and pray) or get on all fours and jump towards you to move (out running straight-line sprint, testing your weave game) then latch on to your legs, applying slow and damage. You probably won't see this comment, but those are my two cents to make him not another horror dweller, and instead an terrifying mob...also ignore any comments about the warden cause at least they don't one shot you in full netherite armor...hopefully.

I watched this video of this spider made of entities in Minecraft that could walk around and interact with the environment like walk up blocks and do lots of cool things. My idea is that it it could like climb around the tree trunks or cave walls in tight spaces and interact like the spider thing did. Also maybe he should mimic sounds of nearby mobs so you don’t hear him coming. (Edit: It’s called procedural walking animations in Minecraft by Cymaera)

You should really lean into making players feel like they have no control when they encounter this guy. The reason why the Warden is so scary in the first place is how it makes you feel so vulnerable, it takes control away from you in a game where control is everything. The creaking fails because you have so much control over the situation, which I hope they improve on in the full release. I'd recommend taking inspiration from other sound-based characters, like those monsters from A quiet place, or the Dogs from Lethal Company. The dogs especially are a really great example, because they also take control away. Its important to not make it too unfair, give the player some way to combat the enemy. If there's actually zero way to work around it, then its not fun. There's a lot of potential for this mod, and I'm excited to see where it goes.

So if you wanna not use a door sometime after 1.14 we were granted the ability to church under slabs meaning you could do a couch entrance and do secure it from 1 block tall mobs just place a block like dirt or sand to break with your fist to get in and out, could also just make a crawling base via trapdoors into a one block tall house, I suggest adding counters to these base methods though to avoid cheese if your horror mobs.
