SURVIVING one of the PLANET'S BEST trails - LYCIAN WAY - LIKYA YOLU

Join me as I tackle one of the biggest hiking challenges ever. The trail voted as one of the best trails in the world by the Sunday Times. However, it's not an easy challenge but the views make it worthwhile if you can overcome the obstacles! The Lycian Way (Likya Yolu in Turkish) is 500 km / 300 miles of tricky terrain, 74,000 ft of ascent, with constant breathtaking views.

Follow my journey as I face heat, rain, misfortune, relief and ups and downs galore. I’m well prepared, but the best laid plans as you see in this video often go astray. Will I prevail?
On my epic Lycian Way trek I pass through Roman ruins and modern settlements along the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. I visit (take a deep breath!): Ovacik; Kabak; Bel; Kinik; Pydnee; a 'sea of plastic'; Xantos; Kalkan; Patara; Delikkemer; Bezirgan; Phellos; Kas; Boğazcık; Ucagiz; Demre; Cayagzi; Andriake; Myra; Geldonia; Adrasan; Olympus; Cirali; Beydaglari; Tekirova; Phaselis; Goynuk; Citsibi; Geyikbayiri; Trebenna; and Antalya!
On my way I encounter such a wealth of human kindness and companionship - my fellow hikers were always ready to lend a hand and keep my company on the trail. Thank you to everyone I met - you’ll see in the video how often I appreciated a helping hand. Thanks too to my tortoise, dog, cat, goat and dragon animal friends who brightened up the challenging hiking. And thank YOU for watching!

Surprised you didn’t take trekking poles. I never do any trail without them. Takes so much strain off the knees. Looked a great trail! PCT next maybe? 😅

Ah, that is a fair observation and once the dust had settled and I had time to reflect on the journey that was one of my conclusions. Have done some of the lesser US trails in the past and in the some of the mountains the PCT passes through but for some reason it does not really appeal to me. Have many more trails to do in the UK and maybe the odd one else where. Thanks for your continued support of the channel. Cheers, Nigel

@@AmblingTrails I’ve just bought a pair of MSR dynalock ascent poles. Awesome trekking poles. Do you mind me asking how old you were when you retired? You look pretty spritely.

Nigel, this certainly seemed full of multiple challenges, and I was rather surprised you came back to it after returning to the U.K. I liked your feline company at around the 30 minute mark. This is not my idea of a comfortable trail (I'm not good with constant sun/heat, and I don't like trails that require constant looking down for foot placement, which seemed to be the case for long sections of this). I prefer the U.K. trails, but it was interesting to see somewhere I'll never go myself.
