I'm watching this video years after but found it still very impactful. You are so smart I'm being able to analyze yourself and hold yourself accountable. A lot of people don't care about self reflecting and would just keep on doing the same thing. I think showing others you can admit to doing something (call yourself out on the web) would teach others to do the same. I dated a man who went to school with R. Kelly. He said it's always been known in their community that Kelly liked little girls. He said he brought a 14 year old to prom. As adults my ex and Kelly sometimes moved in the same circle because they both give large sums of money to their community. For things like park openings and building community centers, etc. So they would both be there for ribbon cuttings and park dedications. My ex said many, many parents from their community would dress their daughters up and bring them to these event hoping to give them to Kelly. Even if their daughters couldn't sing, the claim was still that they are giving their daughter to him for mentoring. They WANTED him to take their daughters because he would then pay the families bills, keep money in their accounts, buy them cars and other means of financial support. The reason that many of the accusations happened so much later is because these girls grew up into woman and then realized that what happened to them was wrong. In the moment they thought they were chosen and were in a relationship and were Special. As an adult looking back they realized that they were abused and sometimes "sold" to their abuser. He didn't get all of the girls that way, some he picked up or had picked up and victimized them without their families knowing or with their families trying to get them back. Those girls felt chosen and Special too. His whole town knows what he is.
