Again thank you so much I will be waiting for the next video I subscribe to your channel and I enjoy your channel so much of what your precious son is saying I see a lot of that in my son and he's had a very very hard road and he was diagnosed with schizophrenia around with a year old they were treating my son with depression but to he really lost it then it came out he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and believe me for years it was a hard hard road for me he cut his self he tried to find places to hang yourself there was times he could not remember 5 minutes prior to what he had done he went through a lot of devastation horrible but thank God they got him on the best track he can be on right now with all his medication he's on they got him the best that he's ever going to be I mean he's still never going to be the son I know before he got sick that's just the best way I know how to really put it but thank God I've still got my son but I very much enjoy this channel and it does help me see other people and what they're going through and the caregiver in how they see it and can explain Betty was years of devastation to get his medicine right even just a little right I mean it was horrible horrible first five or six years it was uphill downhill battle uphill down and he'll constantly more downhill than uphill and finally switch doctors and got him a little bit adjusted which it took about a year but they got him on the right medication that it's doing the best you can do for him and hope it keeps on doing what it's doing but still he's not going to be the sun I once knew before he got schizophrenia and I know that and I accept that but again thank you God bless the both of you till next time 🙏

Hi Stephen, I just discovered your channel today after nearly 4 years of struggling with adult onset Schizophrenia (my first and long episode). I just wanted to say thank you for being a light for our community and for making me feel not so alone with my symptoms. Seeing you and your dad love and support each other (because family needs support too) is so beautiful and inspiring. I will be a follower with you for the whole youtube journey! Cheers.

Wow. I don't know if I've ever seen a more loving and caring father. Steve, you're doing great, you're so supportive and understanding, your love and support for Steven just overflows. And Steven, you're amazing, you've come such a long way, and it's no wonder, with the support you have. You were so so young when you first got ill, yet your understanding of it all is amazing. Alot of adults wouldn't be able to comprehend and deal with it the way you have. It's great you've not ruled anything out, it's great you are able to take things one step at a time. Continue the great work guys.

As someone who struggles with panic attacks, social anxiety, and agoraphobia, the best way I've been able to manage it is through gradual exposure. If you put yourself in an uncomfortable but controlled situation just for a short amount of time at first, it'll be very difficult, but you'll be able to exit that situation at your discretion before stressing yourself out too much. Eventually, if you repeat the exercise enough, you'll get used to it, and you'll be able to gradually increase the amount of time you're in an uncomfortable situation until that situation just becomes normal for you. This has worked for me in regards to being around people in public, and I think if you approach conquering your anxiety in a controlled and strategic manner, you'll be surprised how much progress you'll be able to make. Good luck to you. You've already overcome so much, and you can overcome this.

Hi Stephen! I have PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Everything you explained made so much sense. It feels like it is similar to me. I’ve always loved learning and even school, just the pressure is hard for me to handle. However, then I burned out and stayed home. I love to read, but don’t do it is as intensely as I used to just a year ago. Videos like yours are wonderful because I can relate. Thank you for your hard work!!! Your videos are really helpful.

Sometimes i enjoy social interaction with the right people but i also enjoy alone time a lot more since my psychosis two years ago. I think that’s because i had let some toxic people into my life who i thought were friends but they really weren’t. I was overly trusting and didn’t have healthy boundaries so they walked all over me and caused havoc which was a big factor in my psychotic break. My life is so much more enjoyable now that i have boundaries and enforce them no matter what. Ive learned that saying no to someone making an unreasonable demand of me is not being mean, it’s just being kind to myself as well as others. Have a great weekend guys

I also have schizophrenia and social anxiety. Currently I have little struggle with social anxiety. I used to stay indoors fearing that others would criticize me but I got help from my therapist and my mom. For exposure therapy to work one has to take little baby steps before they can leap. For example my mom would accompany me to the grocery store, mall, restaurants, movie theaters, etc. Then I would go do tasks for myself or for my parents such as picking up medication, buying something I like at the store, buying eggs at the corner store, etc. Then when you get comfortable doing these things you can move on to bigger tasks or events. One thing to keep in mind when going out in public is that everyone is focusing on themselves such as errands that need to be done or enjoying the moment, etc. When you walk down the street you can greet others by saying "Hi" or nodding. Not everyone will respond but that's ok just keep doing it. Once you get far enough into exposure therapy you can start a conversation with others. I hope this helps! Have a blessed day!

Stevens dad, Its admirable the way Steven understands the life he lives, and his autonomy in it. I love hearing Steven saying what his limits are with certainty, but also when he states, I’ve grown so much and why. I am so sure, when the time comes and his mind allows he will be where he is fighting to be. ❤️ Be well, one day at a time.

Thank you for another great video. I hear you on the fact that dating is a scary thought especially with the stress of that potentially worsening my symptoms. I hope one day I am able to date because I’m 27 now and never have, I think the key for me will be finding a guy that also struggles with similar things or has a lot of knowledge about it. I guess that would be my suggestion to you is find someone that can relate to what you’re going through and hopefully that will take some stress out of it slightly. Someone that will be mindful of triggers and check in with you to see how your doing but at the same time help you grow and try new things. You are a catch Steven and anyone would be lucky to share their life with you.

From what I can see, KZbin has really helped you. You are coming on leaps and bounds Steven, you should be so proud of yourself, and your parents. Another great video. It's my wish that they would start educating people about schizophrenia and related diagnoses. I never even knew anything about any of it before my son began exhibiting symptoms and his family doesn't even believe it. So many people will meet people with mental illness and not understand what they're dealing with. Even the police are generally uneducated. (I hope someday people are more informed.)

Hi Steven and Steven’s dad! I’m not sure if my advice is any good, but maybe you could join an active group activity as a family where you also have the opportunity to meet other people 🤔 maybe a hiking group, for example? Also, once you feel less anxious you could start looking for meet ups on your own in your local area with people that have similar interests as you. Personally, I think sporting/exercise activities are the best way to meet people, learn something new and get the endorphins flowing at the same time. Very basic advice, but I hope it is helpful. Lots of love from!🇬🇧

I can see your Dad cares a lot ❤️I was diagnosed with schizophrenia at 20 along with years of psychosis following etc and I tried so hard but I was not helping myself as much as you are. I think if you don't share some of these lessons like you are you may turn into Gollum and keep the ring all to himself and then look what happens, so keep it up ha. So with that here's a lesson I got last night. I'm 44 now and I had girlfriends in school etc but since my diagnosis I haven't even held hands with a girl. Well maybe literally one moment for one minute in over 20 years or something. But the lesson was that I played a few songs at an open mic night last night, on my way out a beautiful girl with the most beautiful husky dog I've seen walked in and a few patrons were patting her dog. Now I've asked out so many girls in 20 years and it always came with a no. I work at the SPCA animal shelter with the dogs. I gave the girl with the dog a big surprised smile and she kind of smiled back ha. And I so wanted to ask if I could pat her dog, but I said to myself "it's just not worth it" I actually had a little depressive spiral in bed that night about not ever being good enough etc but the lesson I took from that if it's worth sharing ha is that "it's always worth talking to the pretty girl with the pretty dog" 🙂🐕 even if you have a girlfriend at home it will make you feel happy. (Maybe don't smile big and pat the dog if your girlfriend's there) Ha anyway true story. Sure there was a lesson somewhere ha take care you look well 🙂

I love watching your awesome relationship. Very informative My home-schooled son started online college classes and liked it. Then he tried in person and hated it. The stress of getting there on time, feeling uncomfortable, the pressure of socialization, following the professors teaching methods were really hard for him, so he went back to online. He gets emailed the assignments and finishes them when he wants. While looking for online college classes we found lots of cool certificates and courses that could be done from home.Harvard University has some free online classes as well. Some interesting history stuff or leadership, or culture and religion, classes. So. me are only an hour long but you can start with some of these small challenges and see how you feel. Most only require watching a video documentary. They are free after all. Nothing to lose.

What about an online relationship? That takes a lot of pressure off re. social anxiety side of things. Also you should try and get out and socialise (on your terms, with regards to who, where, when and for how long. Like any phobia graduated exposure will increase your tolerance to socialising down the track.
