Hey Girl! I am a 3rd year Nursing Student. Just wanted to say you're doing an awesome job staying positive and really organized. I just wanted to send my best to you in this journey! I know it is difficult week in and week out, but don't forget self-care! I know you mentioned feeling guilty about doing other things to study more, but carving that you time out is crucial, especially so you don't get burnt out along the way. I know I learned that through my journey!

Nursing school is really hard and I've found a hard time going to the gym and making it work too but you just learn to prioritize & time manage! You'll figure it out! I'm graduating from nursing school this December! What a RELIEF! It's been the hardest thing I've ever done but it's been so rewarding and fulfilling! Keep your head up and you're so right about being around people who are positive and uplifting...you don't have time for the people who bring you down! You're amazing Holley! You're gonna be a great nurse! ❤️

This definitely brought back memories. I was on my third semester of clinicals before I decided nursing wasn't for me and switched my major. I remember everyone used to say "C=RN," basically meaning that getting As in that particular program (clinicals in particular) was nearly impossible, you get the same degree either way, and no one will ever care about your GPA once you graduate. As someone that graduated from high school with a GPA higher than 4.0, that was an adjustment, but it took pressure off once it sunk in. Nursing is a fantastic career, but in order to be truly successful, you need to have a passion for it. I didn't, and it took two miserable clinical semesters for me to realize that. The classroom stuff was difficult, but I REALLY enjoyed it and still miss it. It was working with patients that wasn't for me. Probably because I'm Awkwardville, USA and don't particularly like people...especially grumpy, sick people. Live and learn!
@hannah05768 жыл бұрын
what'd you switch your major to?
@lyndseyreed9498 жыл бұрын
I took an abnormal psychology class as a nursing pre-requisite and fell in love with it, so I switched schools and got my bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in criminal justice. I realized my earning potential would go down, but it was important to me that I study what I was truly interested in. No regrets. :)

So the thing that helped me most in Patho was talking through the concepts out loud! I would get a friend or my boyfriend and pretend he was my patient asking about the disease affecting his body. If I could put it in sensible words without looking at my notes, I knew it and to this day I have not forgot it. The nursing program I took has Pathophysiology as a prerequisite! Hang in there! I'm in my 3rd of 4 semesters. I graduate in May! I'm excited but pretty nervous. I don't know how your school's program is set up, but typically the second and third semesters are the toughest (because there's just so much information!) If I were to give you any advice, I'd say really soak up your fundamentals now. Be reeealllly comfortable with your assessments and really pay attention to when they start teaching y'all how to administer medicines (especially through IV routes!) if your program is anything like mine, the fundamentals become really important again in higher-acuity classes, like critical care ICU nursing. That class' clinicals have been kind of tough for me that semester because my fundamentals got kinda hazy over this summer. Graduation may seem so far off. My whole class thought the same, until we recently started getting information about graduation. Good luck to you! 😊

And starting in October we will be going to clinicals. We don't have a patho class and my teachers assume we all took that class already 😅😭 so, when trying to figure out care plans, I have to completely rely on my medsurg book and my nursing diagnosis book. I have a passion for medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and medicine, but my CNA instructor told me I am really smart but I am not assertive. Under stress I panic. Sometimes i have no idea what to do making me look lazy. Is nursing for me? I got a 3.9 GPA on medical terminology and 2.4 on Health Science (i failed clinicals and frustrated the charge nurse) 🙁. I am almost fluent in Spanish and I'm looking forward to working in highly populated Spanish hospitals. I love working with kids, I want to work in the pediatrics, neonatal or maternity unit. I know how to take vitals and ADLs. I know a little abbreviations but i know all the anatomy med terms. I have a Nursing Portofolio in hand containing my certificates, cover letter, etc. PLEASE HELP IM IN MY SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL. Do i have a head start? How do i become "assertive"? How am i supposed to handle stress?
