Sometimes people see an epic kill streak, and they want to buy that weapon because they think it will grant them that epic-ness. But it it's never the weapon, always the user. A lot of weapons you see me use, I actually dislike, but I want to get them Auraxiumed. So I don't want people to see a weapon I used, get all excited about my kill streak, then go buy the weapon, and find out it is disappointing. If you really gotta know the weapon, feel free to ask in the comments.

A big part of doing well in plantestide is having a good computer and internet connection. It may go without saying, but having those two things going for you make the world of difference. Having a high FPS is gonna let you hit more shots, live longer, climb walls. When I built a better rig, my K/D went from 1.5ish to 4. Just from having better performance and better internet.

Exactly, for the first 4 years after launch my I7 laptop just couldn't handle the game and I was consistently below 30fps, sometimes even 11 frames per second and despite loving the atmosphere of the game and trying to get into it, I couldn't because I could never seem to win fights and get kills. Now that I built my gaming PC I get 70-50 fps and can break even in all sorts of situations, or even defend an outpost single-handedly with a 3.0 K/D. Performance makes a huge difference on what you're physically able to do in the game, and winning faceoffs with this playerbase is downright impossible if you're aiming through a slideshow. Makes me feel better about my god-awful post-launch K/D too.

@@CMDRCyrious *Most important part of it. It doesnt matter if you do every single little thing correctly if you have a computer that cant handle PS2. You will get farmed by people who spent thousands of dollars on their rigs and you'll get farmed by people who built up their rigs themselves. Dont play this game if you're coming off a Wal-Mart purchase. You'll only have a bad time.

I couldn't afford a super crazy Desktop for gaming last year but I was done with my lo end laptop. It was barely 20 fps on games like this and Mechwarrior Online. Anyways. I finally had enough and Got a bundle. Everything included. One stop buy and it plays Planetside 2 like a fucking champ. And honestly you wouldn't think so. This set up is without a doubt an under dog that is great for maybe your first Desktop. I ended up going HP. It's an HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop that has Nvidia GeForce GTX1050/AMD Ryzen 5 2400 Vega Processor. Came with 30 inch Monitor. Omen Headset. Omen mouse. Omen Keyboard, Omen mousepad. Everything. Although if your buying one of these Bundles or HP gaming desktops they now have newer Graphics cards in them of course. Going with an Nvidia GTX 1080 would be my suggestion and an AMD Ryzen 5 or up processor. Although The GTX 1050 is super underated by Alot of people. And the TI 1050 is just hands down amazing for the money. Add In an AMD Ryzen 5 Processor and your not spending Alot of money and have a RiG that can run Planetside 2 on High settings. If your recording and worried about losing FPS no worries. Download Nvidia Shadowplay since you have a GTX card and no loss in performance. Seriously I love my Rig 😍

Another thing to keep in mind is that nearly every automatic weapon in the game (I think there's a couple of exceptions) has more recoil from the first shot than every shot after during continuous fire. An average player's best bet is to start firing at the upper chest and let recoil bring the aim up to head level, then move the mouse to keep it there.
@CMDRCyrious
@CMDRCyrious 6 жыл бұрын
Yes that is a great tip, first shot recoil modifier is important to keep in mind.

*cringe* Afraid I disagree. Using vertical recoil to walk that 2nd shot to the head is pretty advanced. What helped me was a suggestion to go for the head first while bloom is tight, then pull down to the body as bloom begins to expand and headshots become more luck than aim.

When I first spawned into Planetside two years ago, I spawned as a Light Assault. When I learned that I could fly after about 15 minutes of play, I rarely used standard doorways ever again, and it's for this reason that I throughly believe that the LA class is the best class for a FNG Planetside player to use. Direct engagements with veteran players are frankly suicidal for rookies, but an advantage shot from overhead with a perfect line of fire on their head? If a rookie can find himself picking up on the flanking habits of an LA player, they'll notice themselves winning a large majority of engagements.
@TheLordboki
@TheLordboki 6 жыл бұрын
The buff to hipfire accuracy while flying is also a plus. You just keep the reticle ontop of the enemy while strafing around him. Even veteran players get disoriented by this tactic.

Oh yes, absolutely so. Playing on PlayStation as I do only makes their situation worse, as trying to spin around and keep on target with an analog stick takes considerable years of practice with controllers. This may be also true with a mouse, but mice are more precise.

Yep, I also noticed that. I play PS2 since 3 years and I still royally suck at the game. I used to play a lot of heavy assault but I fell in love with the ambusher jumpjet/pump shotgun combo. It fits my playstyle and people simply dont expect a light assault to bust trough a window with shotgun and based, especially in biolabs where everyone just hold corners

So...I’ve had a strange experience with this game. So I got the game, and this was two or three years ago when instead of giving you 100 certs every time u leveled up they gave you a free weapon for any 1 specific class the moment you got into the game, and I started my first character. It was NC, and I picked the infiltrator set of weapons thinking “well this is gonna be a bit op just waltzing around cloaked and killing people”, but hell no it was nothing like that. I think the free NC weapon was the SAS-R, and I didn’t know it was a close range sniper. I use it for a little and get frustrated by the fact it’s not actually a close range weapon (or I thought it so). I then switched to a couple other classes, eventually ending up with heavy assault. I ended up doing much better with the heavy assault, and got my first kills with the gauss saw. Then I realized I’d picked the wrong server and I couldn’t play with my friends because of it. So I deleted my character and started a new one, still NC, and picked the heavy assault set of weapons. The free heavy assault weapon was the EM1, but I didn’t use it immediately. I started again with the gauss saw, got a couple kills, and decided to try out the EM1. I instantly did better Instantly The difference was extremely noticeable. On my old character I had nine kills total, five of which were with the gauss saw, three with the AF-19 Mercenary, and one with the vanguard’s tank gun. That was over two or three playthroughs. With the EM1 in about an hour I managed to get 16 kills, with an additional 9 or so from the shrike. Ever since then I’ve pretty much remained faithful to the gun, and it is still the gun I have the most kills with. I know kills aren’t super important in planetside, and I learned fairly quickly that I had much more fun when I didn’t give a crap about my KDR, but as a new player in my first week in the game, it was important to me. After that incident, it took a full year before anyone could successfully convince me that weapons hardly made a difference in the game, and that skill was what caused the veteran players to be so good. Really what finally did it was one of those little tip quotes in the loading screen that said “A bad musician always blames their instrument,” in conjunction with wrel’s video about the topic.

Especially nowadays, where almost all games just tell you "oh your sooo good, keep playing me" without you putting any real efford into it, many players get very impatient when they don't perform well after a short period of time. It's a combination of a harsh learning curve, and players nowadays getting spoiled with positive feedback by modern games without the need to put any real efford into them. But for all the newcomers out there: Stick around... It's worth it... There is simply no other game out there which provides a similiar gaming experience... Join a Newcomer-Outfit, these are very open and friendly to new players and help out as much as they can. The community itself is usually very open to new players aswell. When I started, having no clue what an Outfit was, I sometimes asked questions in the open chat during a fight, and even people from the faction we were currently fighting messaged me and helped me out.

Pretty much. KDR has no relevance in the game. You lose precisely nothing for dying, and your kills aren't necessarily going to help your allies. Sure, on the whole, gunning down a load of enemies during a point hold is helpful, but if you're doing that at a base that has been cut off, you're just wasting your time. Unfortunately, KDR can be tracked (Both via stats and with the Recursion tracker), and has thus become the focus of people trying to stroke their e-peens, becoming focused moreso on padding their pointless numbers instead of actually contributing to the game. KDR-whores are also normally the ones who bitch about dying to "cheap" "bullshit", even if, or in some cases, especially if it was their own stupid fault. Like HESH Tankers sitting still and ignoring the ominously low-flying Valkyrie with a bunch of LAs in the rumble seats flying overhead and then going on Reddit to whine about how "OP" C4 is. KDR doesn't matter, and focusing on it is silly.

I think one additional point that is often missed is the sheer amount of firepower PS2's battles feature. Peek the wrong corner in COD and you have one,maybe two guys getting the drop on you. Peek the wrong corner in PS2,and you get instagibbed despite the high TTK.5+ guys might start shooting at you simultaneously.

Great video, you've earned a sub. Kudos to you for making content on Planetside 2018. One thing I want to point out is around 3:50, you use someone who got the drop on you and died as an example. In that instance, you probably would have died if you hadn't used your Heavy Assault shield to negate a decent portion of his damage. I think it's important new players understand that Heavy Assaults have that ability, and that perhaps it isn't always their fault when losing some engagements.
@CMDRCyrious
@CMDRCyrious 6 жыл бұрын
Its true, Heavy Assaults are a different story. Good really decide if you want to engage one of them. I would still put it on that player, if they decide to engage a heavy assault, but yes it is important to realize that Heavy Assaults have a much higher effective HP than other classes.

On the other hand, if you can't kill a HA by getting the drop on them, you'll never kill one at all. Ambushing is the best general way to beat anyone. So, yes, you should blame yourself if you try it and fail, not the enemy's overshield.

Positioning of your crosshairs. Running around the map with you default aim being at the enemies waist or lower is detrimental to your 1v1 readiness. Keeping your horizontal crosshairs at chest level reducing aim time and therefore ttk time. Being able to gauge where the enemy's chest or head is going to be is hard to learn until after a couple thousand 1v1s. Eventually, you can work doorways and various locations better by training your aim on where they will be. Gamers are people of habit, and far too many just rush into a doorway sprinting, with their weapon down. I agree with everything you said in this video, but what I explained above is just as important.

One thing that adds to this feeling of they kill me fast and I them slow is moderately high ping on the servers when there are lots of players online. That means when the first shot hits you the enemy has already shot and probably hit the 1-2 next bullets, so it is different from games such as counter-strike or other competitive games where you could regularly see ping under 20ms. The issue is just something you need to adapt to during primetime.

7:40 This is where I start to wonder if Planetside just isn't a game I can effectively compete in. Due to carpal tunnel issues I picked up in college, a regular mouse doesn't work for me, so I need to use a trackball. I've looked around, and there aren't too many trackballs out there, particularly not ones that use the thumb like I'm accustomed to using. I've tried turning my sensitivity down, but the result is that I can't turn quickly enough - it's like I have already been hit by a concussion grenade. I've also tried a higher sensitivity while aiming down sights than when firing from hip. This helps to some degree, but I still struggle to track moving targets effectively. I can do it okay with someone who isn't terribly skilled, but better players kill me before I can effectively track them. I can sometimes kill a better player if I get the drop on them from behind, and manage to get a few headshots in before they turn around, and if they don't have friends around to back them up. But when it comes to larger engagements, I'm still basically just getting constantly mowed down.

clovermite The steam controller could allow you to use trackpads for fast aiming and its gyro sensor for fine aiming. There are some videos explaining the concept (just search for steam controller FPS) and it seems to work much better than analog sticks.

I honestly feel like the main reason I got hooked on planetside was the first thing I did was look for a squad (since I was coming from mmo rpgs as a healer so I am used to needing groups) and the squads I found was active and helpful, and because of that community I stayed and I am so happy I did

Solid advice there. Gotta work that into my game. Still I feel ping has a lot to do with how fast you die too. You kinda notice the impact sound when a bullets hits your character (bodyshots from the "meaty" sound off it) and sometimes, there are only two impacts but still, BOOM, you ded! From a weapon that does suppoesedly 200 dmg per hit (before the whole damage fall-off and stuff), so I guess the other guy instead must´ve hit me at least five times but on my end it only registered as two as an audio cue. That can be a little discouraging but it makes that little "revenge kill achieved" message so much better.

I haven't played planetside in years and recently started again. I've also been playing apex legends since it came out and I can draw a lot of parallels in the gunplay between the two. It's probably why I do decently in apex, as it didn't take me long to regain that ps2 muscle memory, and now apex is why I feel I'm able to come back to ps2 after so many years and feel like my skill has barely degraded. I like playing shooters with similar gun play philosophies/mechanics because the skills you gain in one are easily transferrable to the other.

Basicaly, there are two types of good players. Headshoters and CQC experts, both kill extremely fast, but are much different in their combat styles. While headshoters concentrate on fighting the enemy who's directly in front of them, CQC focused players spend their time by searching for the perfect approach and oportunity to attack.They usualy play light assaults and infiltrators, though some play medics because of their CQC ARs. They are exceptional duelists, when you face one in knifing distance you won't even have a chance to react.

the reason for those soft mouse pads that inhibit your movement a bit are specifically for being able to stop your mouse when you move it, it has that extra bit of grip you need so it doesn't slide too much when you don't want it to (and like you said it's a preference) also along with finding the right mouse sensitivity comes finding the right FOV, I love and play on max/100-110 on most games while you and many other players prefer a smaller FOV, that changes your effective sensitivity as well since a lower sensitivity on a lower FOV means you don't have to move as far to get your sights on a target in your FOV so even though your aim is slower you're not moving your mouse as drastically
@gladeare
@gladeare 6 жыл бұрын
You spend your time getting learning how to aim, how to behave, how to follow commands and how to move. You learn the layouts of different bases, learn to drive different vehicles and start flying planes. If you finally mastered all of these techniques after hundrets, if not thousands of hours... ...a TR harasser comes along with a vulcan and mows down all 20 sundies and 10 tanks your team has set up. Pro-tip: playing vulcan-Harasser is especially funny when you're lagging; this way your vehicle will not be visible until everyone is already dead... great times....
@CMDRCyrious
@CMDRCyrious 6 жыл бұрын
Just wait till a moljnir or Aphelion shows up, then you are really in for it.
@gladeare
@gladeare 6 жыл бұрын
the only problem with that: everyone knows how to use the vulcan. It's a point and click adventure where holding the left mouse button for one second will reward you with a nice firework caused by the exploding opponent. That doesn't really work with the aphelion, since new players just hopping into the game will never know what it can do. Even the description is a little weird. Also, even after reaching its max speed when firing (which also takes time), it still does about 7-10% less damage than the Vulcan. On top of that, when employing the 6-shots-then-stop technique, you will *have* to hit every high-damage-shot of the aphelion, or you will lose a high amount of damage. With the vulcan, missing a few shots and getting back on target is not a tragedy - as long as you have enough ammo. Also, with the arge magazine size, one whole vulcan clip can on average deal about 30% more damage than one aphelion clip when just holding fire. Most of the time, when playing vs, I'd rather put a halbert on my harasser and try to jump in and out of cover to get single shots on the enemy. The aphelion isn't really a great weapon to use against the vulcan, it seems rather strong about stationary vehicles such as deployed sunderers and slow tanks, since the damage fall off is less, while the accuracy is better, but the projectiles are still too slow for distant moving targets. (which doesn't really make sense to me, since the vulcan is said to be a medium range weapon while the aphelion was supposed to be a close combat weapon). It's also great for surprising unknowing mosquitos and reavers. I can't say much about the mjolnir; nc is a faction I have yet to play on. Also, I have never seen someone using it or killing me with it. Please also note that my first comment was written with a lot of salt too, only hossin was open and VulcansEverywhere+TrOverpop+Ping+NoActiveSquadAnywhere= instant switch to another server
@Clickum
@Clickum 6 жыл бұрын
Believe it or not, the Vulcan has been nerfed; when it originally came out, its bullet velocity was faster and it had the ability to pitch up farther, making it the go-to for anti-aircraft. I haven't played VS or NC (because I'm a patriot) but the Vulcan has a pretty severe bullet drop compared to a lot of TR weapons. Its bloom also makes it terrible at hitting infantry. Everything has its pros and cons.
@gladeare
@gladeare 6 жыл бұрын
ƃN Ⅎ What I am on about? I said I didn't play as nc and don't want to judge the mjolnir before really getting to know it. Also I don't really see as many mjolnirs as I see vulcans and aphelions being used against me, which might just be luck if it really is that strong :D btw, any recommended server for playing nc? I've only tried miller/emerald with the other factions and moved to only emerald later as I enjoyed playing there more
@gladeare
@gladeare 6 жыл бұрын
ƃN Ⅎ easy; none. I don't think it's entirely bad if one faction has any advantage in one of its empire specific weapons. Of course it can be frustrating, but in planetside it would kind of make sense in terms of lore, as long as the amount of more useful weapons and the overall usefullness of the arsenal is relatively balanced. I think ps2 does a good job there. (and as i already said earlier, the rant-ish post about the vulcan was kind of fueled by frustration... damn, I need to wait more after these fights before I comment, didn't mean to start such a discussion ^^)

You have some really good points. The only thing missing I think is some words about the netcode. If an enemy enters the room and starts shooting at you the moment you realize it he's already shooting you for half a second meaning you're under attack before the enemy visually attacks you and that's a thing you have to know to be able to get behind cover early enough. I know you already mentioned that in another video but I think it could've been helpful for new players to have this information in this video here as well ;)

As a battlefield player, the hardest thing to get used to is the high ttk and how important headshots are. In bf4 the headshot multiplier is 1.5 max, and practically, the first person that shoots on target wins, as ttk is usually 4-5 shots body, 3 head. After this video I started aiming for the head and noticed much better I became. Thank you.
