This has got to be one of the most honest and modest Survivor cars out there. I love its appearance, its car story, and that Mr. Rosborough found and kept the church bulletins, too. The original owner and Aunt Bea would both be proud to see it today! Thanks, Lou!

Thank you for the video! My grandmother traded in her Hemi-powered Dodge on a '58 all-white and with a green interior like this one, but 2 dr. Equipped with 235-6cyl./PowerGlide but with Power Steering. The Dodge was too powerful for her. My dad would take it out for my grandmother, to "blow it out" once in awhile. He would take it up to atleast 100 mph. My grandmother stopped driving in 1967 and my uncle came from Arizona and bought it from her for $300. It had 11K original miles on the odometer. She would usually only drive it to church every Sunday or when she would go shopping. She would take me to the zoo in it and sometimes my family would go for a picnic in the park. On one picnic, she left the key in the ignition and locked the car. Somehow, a man who was there, got into the trunk, went through the backseat and unlocked the car for us. After that, my dad wired an extra set of keys behind the license plate, but nobody ever had to use them. My grandmother would take it in for service every 6 months.

For anyone who's curious about the proper color names... it's finished in Tropic Turquoise and Artic White, (the latter only being available on two-tone models; monotone cars used Snowcrest White). Beautiful specimen, considering it's practically all original. ✅

I love these original cars, especially when they're lower level models. With the '58, many say that the Bel Air's and Biscayne's were more attractive than the gussied-up Impala! By the way, Inline sixes were good balanced engines. You really don't feel like the engine's struggling.

I love it! These rusted so badly here in the Midwest that I am surprised to see one in this condition. The original owner must have had a well ventilated garage. The heater and the two tone paint were options as well. Incidentally, Chevrolet offered two different heaters. They offered a fresh air heater/defroster that we see yet today, but they also offered an “economy” recirculating unit that did not introduce fresh air into the car. The fresh air heater/defroster was not made standard equipment until the 1962 model year.

Hi, Lou! You know, it's funny, in 1958 this was just a humble six-cylinder sedan, just an everyday car, and like most of us who have bought a new car, I'm sure Terry's wife's childhood neighbor likely didn't buy this car with the forethought that it was a future classic. But here we are, 65 years later! As you mentioned, the Impala made its debut in 1958, as did the Biscayne, which got its name from a 1955 Chevy show car, and the famous Florida bay. That year, the Impala was offered only as a two-door hardtop and a convertible and was a subseries of the Bel Air. In 1959, the Impala became a full top-of-the-line series with the addition of a four-door sedan and four-door hardtop, and the Biscayne became the entry-level full-size series with the deletion of the Delray, and so it remained until its final year in 1972 (1975 in Canada). There was also a separate series of wagons: Yeoman 2-door and four-door, which used the Delray trim; Brookwood 4-door, 6- and 9-passenger, equivalent to the Biscayne; and the Nomad, which was still the top-of-the-line hauler, but unlike the earlier Nomads was a conventional 4-door. I think those church pamphlets were a sign that God was blessing this car with long life and looking out for it! Thank you, Lou and Terry, for showing us this amazing survivor and taking us on this virtual therapy session!

This is a outstanding model of a car model that no one ever takes time to present on video, Job well done. We have far too many muscle car video tributes. This represents the kind of car many people actually purchased and drove. An oil filter was an option. Chevrolet DID NOT offer a dual carburetor intake for this car

My parents had a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air that also had the 235 cubic inch in line 6 cylinder engine that looked just like the engine in this car, including the oil bath air cleaner. There was one difference. The 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air had a bypass oil filter on it. It is my understanding that on this engine a bypass oil filter was an option for this car or the owner could install a bypass oil filter on this car. This 1958 Chevrolet Biscayne appears to be completely original and unrestored. Usually a car this age has been restored and modified to where it is a very different car. It is a treat to see an unrestored original car.

The condition of this surviving 1958 Chevrolet Biscayne is fantastic! It even still has its original stickers! I like its color combination (the famous pastel tones of that time) white with turquoise, making its beautiful chrome ornaments stand out more; without forgetting its wheels with the same color arrangement. A beautiful interior, in two tones of turquoise and the good distribution of instruments also decorated in chrome. As always, the manuals and catalogs in the trunk are very interesting; But the extraordinary thing was having found those treaties from the church where its original owner attended and reconstructing, in a certain way, her own history. The final walk along those country roads was nice; It even seemed like they went back to 1958, haha. Congratulations to Mr. Rosborough for celebrating his silver wedding anniversary (25 years) next to this historic gem! Excellent video, and discovery, Lou!

Nice that you feature a 1958 Chevrolet that is NOT an Impala! I bet more people can identify with a Biscayne rather than an Impala, because it was cheaper than an Impala and also had four doors! More people will remember cars like this one because this is the model that most people probably had. Even though not an Impala, it looks absolutely great! Love the two-tone paint job. Lou, I was also a school teacher who never married or had any children (although there is still hope for me). But I always had four-door vehicles, and my parents usually did as well. I love sports cars, but they do not have to be 2-door models. There is nothing wrong with starting to show more late 1970s models, it must be getting harder to find 1958 Survivors like this Biscayne model!

Lou my grandfather bought one of those brand new back in 1958 and my mother said she learned to drive on that car. It was a three speed speed on the tree. I thought it was a big change from the 57. I got love for it today years ago I thought it was ugly.

Beautiful old survivor the radios would have been an option so it holds true to have the radio delete plate on it. I did not see no clock which clock would’ve been an option to appears to be quite the true survivor car that the owner claims my first car was a 58 Chevy, I can’t remember now if it was a Delray or a Biscayne but it did have a radio Clock you made a reference to seeing two carburetors that would’ve been on the 53 to 55 Corvette. They had two carburetors on them and they introduced a V-8 265 in.³ on the Corvette and 55.

Beautiful car Lou. Long before my time my grandparents had one like it. It was a Biscayne 4 door also with the 235 six but had a 3 speed on the column shift. It was 2 tone green. We have a picture or 2 of it. Not sure what happened to the car. I did however find the taillights to it when we were going through. My grandpa's shop a few years ago. I kept them as we were cleaning up the place to sell.

My dad had the '58 Del Ray. It was the first car I remember as a baby. It was also two tone green, 235 six I believe, and 3 speed on the column. I remember the engine died on my mom coming home from work one day back in '68 and that was it for that car.

A cartridge oil filter was an option, clamped on to the intake manifold. It was a partial flow, connected to a tee installed at the port on the block for the pressure gauge, the return line connected to a threaded port on the cylinder head.

Another excellent episode, Lou. Hopefully the weather will continue to cooperate for you in the days ahead. This '58 Biscayne is beautiful to be sure, but also surprised me that it WAS a Biscayne (not from the title) but from the fact that it seems more of a "mid-level" Chevy from the exterior, and the fancy, snazzy interior! Really more like what the Bel-Air is like on the '59 and '60 models that followed. On the latter two, the Biscayne is extremely plain/spartan. No 'frills' whatsoever, yet this '58 isn't like that. I have to wonder if the original owner ordered it more upscale? The only other thing I can think of is maybe the Biscayne wasn't the bottom model, yet.

Yes, they were still working on the new pecking order with Impala's leap onto the scene. Just a few years earlier, the Biscayne was quite a Motorama show car that previewed some styling elements that would (and would not) end up going into later production cars. @@loucostabile

Quick Questions To Anyone Reading This: 1: What were the other differences between the Biscayne, Bel Air, and Impala besides the two-three taillight differences? 2: How did they come up with the "Biscayne", "Bel Air", and "Impala" names? 3: How much did the three cost back then?

You would almost have to research the old owners manuals, but if memory serves correct, most of your accessories were options whether it was a Delray to an impala and the location where the car was sold could have a bearing my dad‘s friend bought a 58 Impala off his sister the car was bought in Arizona spent his whole life there and it had the delete plate where the heater would’ve been. He ran into quite a hassle and expense switching it over to a heater equipped car. One other interesting option on a 58 Chevy. Besides, the air suspension was the smokeless ashtray. There was a canister under the hood, and when your cigarette was in the ashtray, it would suck the smoke out to the canister and more often than not when the cigarette got real small, it would suck the cigarette butt out too.

I liked the 58 Chevy best of all the models of the decade. I hate to burst your bubble, but Aunt Bea had a 56 Ford Crown Victoria Sunliner. She let Andy barrow it when he had to go somewhere on personal business. It was in a few episodes. The reason for this was that Ford supplied the cars used on the show, so Aunt Bea couldn't have a Chevy. However, if they would have changed to Chevrolet supplying the cars, I am sure this would have been her car😊.
