VERY nice. Loaded indeed for an AMC. AMC bumped the Ambassador in size for 69 (they had bumped it too in 67, so with both increases it now competed with the Big 3 standard models on wheelbase, though it was still much trimmer overall) and in my opinion probably the best overall styling of any AMC era Ambassador, certainly as a sedan. The early 70's wagons were spared the rear end redesign and remained attractive until the coffin grille came in 74. Underrated - the people I knew who had Ambassadors loved them - so long as they had a garage. These and the Chryslers had a rust problem. I'm guessing this came from Montgomery County where I live, but I don't recall seeing it; probably the original owner wasn't really drivng or showing it much by 2007.

Lou, an AMC with quite a legacy. The Ambassador was a fine, well-made road car - lotta car for the money. AMC knew how to make well-appointed, comfortable interiors. And, with the mighty 390! Nothing wrong with the '69 AMC lineup. Congratulations to the gentleman for the stewardship of this car. As always, Lou, thanks for your interest and features of the little guy AMC!

Over the years I've come to appreciate, even love, the AMC vehicles from the 1960s. They were the underdogs of the day, battling the Big Three. In retrospect, they did a great job on a fraction of the budget that Ford, GM, and Chrysler had. On top of that, they are unique and relatively rare. You just don't see many old AMCs anymore. Another great video, Lou..cheers! 🍻👏

Same here. In the late 1970s, when I was a teenager, my best friend bought a pre-owned V8 '74 Javelin that really opened my eyes to AMC. All our buddies had the usual suspects, the Camaros, Mustangs, Firebirds, etc. Loved that Javelin.

Very nice! The reason I looked this car up is from the movie (the conjuring) .the Warrens car. I am a fan and I had to know what kind. I was looking and it had no details about what kind. Well finally I seen Ambassador on the front. Then I had my search and this is the exact car and color. Just beautiful and as they're driving u can see the power steering is so good he's using 1 finger to steer . But if u watch the conjuring movie part 1 you will see this exact car. Very cool

and for 70, this car got even nicer, with an updated rear clip that no longer had the fender ends that had originally been designed for the 67 and 68 taillights. Also, the 390 got better, able to breath more at higher RPMs and a rating of 325 hp. rather than 315, but the improvement to the engine was real and could be felt. Then for 71, the 390 evolved into the 401, and in a year that most cars lost power, the slightly lower compression 401 got to 330 hp. and more torque than before.

My father had a 1968 DPL Ambassador 4 doors with the 232 six in frost Blue, no power steering and no AC . It was a fine familly car for trips to the US from Québec. The engine was no power house but did the job and it pulled a pop-up trailer . This car is the same but the front end was different in 1969 and the tail lights were horizontal rather than vertical were those Ambassador emblems are in the 1969. A lot of nice familly memories in this car. Thank you Lou for this nice car presentation.

Hello Lou! After a long day at work, I finally was able to take the time to get a look at this wonderful AMC car. American Motors reslly knew how to compete with the Big Three as best they could, and they did quite well for a small automoble company that captured five percent of the market at the most. This Ambassador, though, is well appointed. It could do many a Cadillac proud. Just look at that interior. It's very well done for an AMC - from a company that had roots going back to the Nash Ramblers and Metropolitans of the 1950s. But by the 1980s, things began to change. American Motors' market share shrank considerably, accelerated by the changing economy, rising fuel costs, and, most importantly, the ill-timed merger between AMC and French automaker Renault, resulting in the whimsical moniker "Franco-American Motors." Then, in 1987, came the buy-out of AMC by Chrysler Corporation, and AMC, as we knew and remembered it, was no more. Once again, thanks Lou for another interesting video on an interesting vehicle. How many survivors do you see today? I remember you did a video on another '69 Ambassador - a two-door hardtop - some months ago. I go back to that one too. As always, I'll be watching!

Hi, Lou! The 1969 Ambassador was the most impressive AMC car to date, and with the name having already been around for 42 years at that point (starting out as the Nash Ambassador), it was also the best-selling Ambassador of all time. And while many buyers of big cars tended to gravitate towards the Impala, LTD and Fury, I think Kenosha did go above and beyond to give them reason to consider its finest. Indeed, from the inside I think it looked more luxurious than those Big Three cars. BTW, the color on this one is called Frost White. Bob is very fortunate to have something different to stand out from the Chevys and Fords at all the car shows, and we're happy to get this virtual experience in this soft, cushy, no shake, no rattle, no roll ride you and Bob have given us! ILL CYA later!

Had a '71 way back in the mid 70's. The original owner ordered it special to tow a huge Airsteam Trailer. It had the Police Interceptor 401, super duty suspension, and a 3.9x posi rear end. It would eat 383 Road Runners, 396 Super Sports, 390 Mustangs, for breakfast. Imagine the look on their face when they got blown away by a 4-door Grandpa car!!! When I went in the Air Force in '76... mom begged dad to keep it as a family car, but he didn't. She had to wait another six years to have a car with air conditioning.................

Hey big bro Lou! EPIC and what a find, man. This stately white AMC Ambassador is indeed an ambassador to middle-aged and perpetually goofy/boyish JV baseball jocks like your truly. I would 100% be in that super comfy backseat with my tubesocked stocking feet and calves dangling between you guys, occasionally putting one stocking foot right over your left shoulder (that you would swat off with a big grin....just to have me do it again to try and piss you off😂😜😇) to show me as the wiseass little brother I hopelessly am lol 🤣🤪😜. All with grins to my big bro, BTW. As a blue collar patriot, I'm a big fan of AMC (the super sexy Javelin with a chick stateside is my dream😏) and their legacy, Lou. So awesome of you to show Bob's survivor here. This is truly a stately and handsome car. I can see why President Reagan would want one featured in his inauguration, truly. I too love the little details like the flare in the back side marker lights and those simple, but very elegant, side curves. The tailpipes add to the late 60's Sinatra and The Rack Pack vibe. Which is AWESOME. One can sense this is indeed an "ambassador" to something good and swingin'! My Dad Dean Martin! We need these stories, these relics of a simpler, and very creative, time. Thanks big bro Lou! JV Johnny ⚾⚾

Nice Ambassador, and nice video! Around 2:45 the remarks seemed to indicate the “American Motors” tag under the back window had been added by the owner? Wow! This is a car you don't see every day! Nice example of the car even though I find the existence of the Ambassador as a head scratcher since it was merely the mid-sized car with some wheelbase added ahead of the firewall. While this fact is not so bad in this version, the 1970's versions became even more pointless and uglier (if that was possible on the long nose Matador). Once again you bring such variety and thank you for that!

That "Edelbrock" unit is NOT to increase gas mileage. It is a "water injection" unit to cut back pre-detonation "pinging" so a lower or reduced octane fuel can be used. There should be a water reservoir under the hood somewhere. There should also be a vacuum switch to actuate it. Remember, that AMX engine is a high-compression engine. Also, being a traditional Rambler "tightwad", the Edelbrock water injection unit was probably added so that they could use regular gasoline. Fuel octane dropped drastically in the 1970's, so, aside from lowering the compression of the engine, which would be expensive, the Edelbrock water injection was a necessity. Parking the Ambassador and replacing it with a Gremlin for commuting is another sigh of being a tightwad. lol The Ambassador styling cues were a sign of flash without overdoing it in it's later years. Really nice styling after AMC came to the realization that people didn't want garish or odd looking cars and prefered more conventional styling. Oh, that Prestolite Leece-Neville unit is an added-on remote-mounted solid-state voltage regulator. The AMPS4 is a bit confusing.

Too bad they couldn’t fight the big three and stay in business. I would have bought one but they shut down before I was old enough to drive.

Hi Czech Mate, Happy to read you appreciate this "Very nice car" :-) I'm not sure if there was any major engine repair, however seems to run great the day I was in the car, Lou

I will watch the video again in a bit to see if I heard him right. I didn’t have the volume up very much.

Wow! Going to the White House in an AMC Gremlin! How funny is that!? 😂 (By the way, what the hell happened to Rambler, the car company?) Stuff aside, nice car! 😎👍💪

What year of Ambassador had the tail lights right at the end of the fenders where this one has a large cap on the ends? Tnat year was actual a bit better looking than this with the big blocks on each side of the rear end, in my mind anyway. I’ve also often wondered tjst since AMC used parts from other manufacturers was the 390 their own engine or a Ford 390 perhaps?
@loucostabile6 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing which one you prefer. I know that AMC had there own 289 which was not Fords, so I believe the 390 was all their own too. If a Viewer has more knowledge, feel free to comment.

AMC had quite a few engines over the years that happened to have the same cubic inch displacements as engines from other manufacturers. Their 327 from the late 1950s and early '60s was _not_ the Chevy engine, for example. And the largest engine they ever offered, the 401, had the same displacement as the early '60s Buick engine, but absolutely NOTHING was shared between them!
@TripReviews6 ай бұрын
@@knowbodiesfull5768 they had quite a few copycat engine displacements didn’t they. Every time I took note of AMC engine sizes it has made me think they bought them from one of the big 3. Looks like my pondering was wrong.

Water injection? That was tried in the late '70s to early 80s I think.

Sorry, but I’m not crazy about the rear-end styling. Those white blocks on either side with the emblems on them give the appearance of “deleted taillights!” The 8 track tape player with exposed cable underneath gives the appearance of an aftermarket interior “car warmer,” that was usually bolted to the transmission hump. Pardon the pun, but definitely not cool !

I think this era was the pinnacle of AMC products. 73 and on were not as good due to being detuned to meet emission standards and ugly with the giant bumpers. I remember liking the 69 Ambassador when I was a gradeschooler when they came out.
