Hey, Lou! Back in 1977. I went to a little used car lot. He had a AMC Javelin AMX. But it was a Mark Donahue AMX 390 with Zoomy Tubes exhaust coming out in front of the back tires. It was a green gold color with black interior. A four speed shifter too. I was 17. The Car lot owner wouldn't let me test drive. Because of my age. But he let me go with him and he drove the AMX. He told me that he dragged raced on the weekends. He said he had another AMX with a 401 and a 4- speed and 3.90 gears out back. The tires were N-50's on Alumium slot mags. The AMX was very fast. The sound from the Zoomy Tubes with the windows down was AWESOME. Really enjoy your video's. It takes me back to a great time in the Muscle car era! Thanks, Again Lou! Shawn.

I'm so jealous. Always a fan of AMC they made some great cars. There was an AMC dealer across the street from where my mom used to shop. I'd go over and get some of those brochures you showed in the video. I was in high school when these were new and wanted one bad. I worked in a Pontiac/AMC dealer starting in 74 and had the chance to drive a couple of these as used cars. Almost bought a green 70 with a 360 and 4 speed that was traded in but had a 73 Grand Prix at the time that I couldn't give up. I believe these were the first cars with the space saver spare tire. We had a guy that would refill the cylinder at work. Thanks for another great video.

This is probably the 5th or 6th time I've watched this video and I am still in awe of this car and the story behind it. AMC in just a few years did in my opinion the best job possible in the "Muscle Car" field especially given their budget challenges. The AMC parts department offered so many dealer-installed performance options to improve the performance of these great cars. Looking back now I realize now that they really had to since unlike "the big three" they did not enjoy the support from the third-party manufactures. Thanks for finding this gem Lou. This is one of my absolute favorite cars from the muscle car era. BTW great editing Joey :D

What a neat sleek unit this is! My gosh I love the color and the story of this little powerhouse. A 50 year old car with it's original owner and all the goodies that went with the car just makes this unit and video so much fun to watch. The owner was awesome too loved him and his stories of his prize baby. I was just 11 years old when this unit was produced and I do remember these units too. It is so funny as I watch this video in my town here where I live in Massillon Ohio I was in a old AMC dealership this morning that was here till the demise of AMC. I could feel all the AMC'S and see them in the old building this morning as it is now a discount house for home furnishings and groceries. I just loved AMC they were a lot like Studebaker ahead of the times for people as both Studebaker and AMC made awesome cars even though they were the underdog to the big three companies. I really loved watching this video and the owner was right people now under the age of 50 has no idea what a 8 track tape is as I have hundreds yet to this day. Thanks Lou for sharing such a neat unit with us. The are sure hard ones to find around anywhere.

Lou I'm s glad you asked the very important question at the end of the video why this car. My second question would be how was he able to keep this car all these year? With children, homes to be bought, and wives who want a family car so many guys are forced to sell. I know trunks and treats are a big thing with you. I wish you would have passed on the other AMC brochures and focused on the AMX brochure with an emphasis on the go pack. I felt you didn't cover this as thorough as you might have. The owner mentioned some of the features of this package but if you had focused on the AMX brochure and the Go Pack package information on this critical part of the 390 AMX would have been covered. It was about his time that American car manufacturers were beginning to offer disc brakes in the front. Were disc brakes part of the Go Package or were they not available on the AMX ? Lou I appreciate the variety of cars on your show. They are some of my favorites. Each time I watch your show it is accompanied by a feeling of trepidation. I fear an Alice in Wonderland journey down the trunks and treat rabbit hole along with a sundry of stickers describing radiator and jack information. Just let the owner tell his car story and have a few questions to prompt the owner if key information about his car are left unanswered. You did this while you were riding in his car. Your program is one of the best on KZbin with some of the best cars. Maybe just a little less Lou and a little more "My Car Story".

Of course Lou, you have to know I built a small scale model of an AMX when I was 8 years old. LOL! Larger than a Matchbox car but smaller than a snap together one. It was a toy to go along with the rest of my collection. I just wish I had a fraction of real cars like the ones I had as a kid.

Love this car. The video was awesome. One thing I would like to point out is they nailed it on the head for car guys looking to buy a car. It's a lot like falling for that special someone. In his case he looked at Mustangs an Cameros and was like 🤔. But then he saw the AMX sitting there in all her glory and was instantly smitten with it's appeal. Like a fine woman.

@@loucostabile absolutely Lou, I subscribed , I'm getting more appreciation watching the late 50s early 60s big old cars as well, the artwork the engineering the planning and coordination of so many people that took place to put those masterpieces together was just amazing, And then they only built that model for one calendar year that's crazy, And they were back at the drawing board making up something completely different in a lot of cases, as well as improving them, I was born in 1962 , that era there was something special about it , few years Before & After . And these cars were a big big part of the American lifestyle

Beautiful car and in original condition! I had a chance to buy one in 84"85 when i was getting my first car"with my own money that i worked/saved for yrs to do". Seen one of these on a used car lot for 1700.00. Was white with orange stripes running front to back "but not like those shown, more like 1969 pace car Camaros" had a 390 with a 4speed. Was on that lot for 2yrs. Ended up buying a 72 Buick Riviera with a 455 for 300.00. Had a bad diaphragm in the fuel pump that the people i bought it from couldn't figure out. Lol. No regrets getting the Buick but always wished i had gotten that AMX. Was really a Beautiful looking car. Anyone heard of them coming from the factory with that paint scheme and stripes? Or was it possibly a repaint? Looked original to me then but i was a teenager at the time.

An oak tree fell on my 2001 crown vic and crushed the back of the roof..I cut out the damaged part from the front doors back and even with the trunk..I then decided I wanted to shorten the car and cut off 1.5 ft off the rear..I'm in the process of building a slantback roof and it looks a bit like the wonderful AMX design...I think if I cut more off the back it would look even more like one..the good thing about these crown vics is that they have a swing arm suspension and there is nothing in the way when you make the cuts and you could cut the body and frame off flush with the rear tires

Enjoyed this video Lou. The original American Motors head quarters still stands in Southfield, Michigan, it has been occupied by many residents over the decades, now occupied by Citizen's Bank. Everytime I drive by the place I imagine engineers arguing over who's brake calipers they're going to use, who's transmission ? ... it had to be an endless confrontation :P www.google.com/maps/place/Michigan/@42.4882727,-83.2996764,252a,35y,44.94t/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x4d4caa3dc7ca0411:0x97dd48597a62c9b3!8m2!3d44.3148443!4d-85.6023643

Hello, I haven't finished the this yet , but just wanted to say how cool! I'm considered an original owner as my dad bought his 1968 AMC AMX off the lot in Glenwood Springs, CO. @ Berthod Motors. in 1969. He did do some restoration in the years. I have let it sit since last year and having some trouble starting it. Do you have any suggestions? I just need to know how to prime the carb. Thanks In advance.
