On "My Car Story" we're at the Rosemont Convention Center in Rosemont IL on 3-6-24 at the World of Wheels car show.
We're looking at a 1976 Buick LeSabre Custom 2 Door in Gray Paint. The car is equipped with a 455 V8 engine, with an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Bert Major. Bert’s had this car since 2022. Bert shares his Dad had one, so when he saw this one, he purchased it to remind him of his Dads car.

What a gorgeous '76 LeSabre. You could see the pride in Bert's face when he stated that it was the first Buick his Dad purchased. That 455 is really something to behold. Thank you for sharing! Just a note- be careful handling the decorative swivel cover over the trunk lock. They tend to break off rather easily. Probably the rarest feature of this car is the clock delete cover. Probably worth $$$ to someone who needs one!

What a beautiful Buick! In many ways I prefer the LeSabre to the Electra at this time, particularly in the interior. If you look at the '66 Electra from a decade earlier, the interior is closer to this LeSabre than the '76 Electra interior, which had the 'bordello' look, unfortunately. Applause and admiration to this gentleman for leaving his car un-molested. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing this video, Lou. It reminded me of my dad’s 1975 Buick LeSabre four-door hardtop. His car was dark brown in colour, with a matching vinyl top, and beige interior. It came with “optional” upholstery that had a “brocade fabric,” and for some reason, the seat would not go as far back as the standard seat. Like this car, it came with the largest-size engine, a 455ci. V8. My dad was charged a special government surcharge for it. Like this car, it too lacked an “electric clock.” With other factory options such as “air,” “am/fm stereo,” “cruise,”and “power windows,” I thought that was a bit weird at the time. What is especially memorable for me was when we came home from a trip, and dad handed me the keys, and asked me to park it in the garage for him. I was a good driver, and he trusted me with it !

Beautiful. I know some of us don't think of a 1976 being a classic...forgetting that 1976 was almost 50 years ago! It IS a classic! Gret car. I saw a lot of these back in 1976. I remember these when they first came out. My childhood spans the early 1960's into the early 1970's and I became a car nut at an early age thanks to the Ford Mustang. From that point forward, I could tell you the year and name of every car built at that point and would salivate at new car launches in the Fall waiting for the annual changes. Oh how I miss that period since modern automotive landscape has been ruined by the staleness and lack of progress in styling. And then the infestation of the buffoon vehicles, CUV's and SUV's, which have totally ruined loving vehicles for me. I marveled at that new roofline on this Buick when new and how the windows on the full-sized Fords and GM cars changed during the mid-70's. Thank you for showing a car that may seem ordinary for some, but opens up a time capsule of my memories as a youth!

As I sit here eating whole grain bread toasted with peanut butter, in my working class blue collar guy garb-my sweatpants pulled up to my knees (as always), ever present white baseball stockings tube socks (green stripes today), and a Black Sabbath softball tee (Ozzy is my rocker Dad lol😜), I hear my floppy boys (my sneaks) banging on the door to be let out, man. No sooner do I open the door that they fly out, no doubt to you and awesome big bro Bert for you guys to catch like Amos Otis with Kansas City, man lol🤣! Big bro Bert's story with his Dad and the meaning of this Buick to him was really moving. An all-American success story, very inspiring! Those super swoopy gray sides and that radically stretched blue top is so freakin' awesome and super luxurious, Lou. The way the windows knife down like a guillotine? Twelve years ago, at a PYP wrecking yard, I found both 1984 Buick Chassis Service Manuals in the rear area of a 1984 Buick wagon. They were in mint condition. Five years later I bought a 1984 Buick LeSabre Limited from Copart. Sometimes magical things occur for reasons unknown. The 1984 was a family donation and the car has 64,212 miles on it.

Truly, this 1976 Buick LeSabre Custom with that combination of Gray and a Landau-style roof in blue vinyl makes it look very nice! Also, the blue interior combination is magnificent. From the beautiful doors, to those large, comfortable seats, to the elegant wood-trimmed dashboard (it's like running a living room, but on wheels, hehe). The two large books in the trunk are very interesting, with specifications and real samples of the upholstery and color. The 455 V8 engine sounded powerful, but, at the same time, quite smooth. They did well, in the end, to activate those striking electric windows! Ha ha. Congratulations to Mr. Major, for this elegant Buick; which, in turn, brings back memories of the one his father had! All I have to say is "Wow!" I was born in 85 and I just adore these older vehicles. There not the same. I'm a huge Buick Regal fan only due to my Grandma having just 1. But, she ended up moving to California and left it sitting at my Aunts house with less than 40,000 miles on it and decided to give it to my mother. Long story!!! But, it was a nice car. The A.C. never gave out. All I can honestly remember is that she had problems with the struts. It was a 1991 Buick Regal/2 door and like a dark Pacific Ocean blue and I remember the clear taillights with a chrome trim. My mother was actually driving at the time a 1986 Buick lesabre. And honestly it was still a good car and the ac still worked in it too! Now, that Regal was given to my mom when I got my restricted license at the age of 15years old in 2000. So, her husband took over the lesabre and so on....lol. they did end up getting new vehicles years later. But, yeah.

Another comment, when I lived in Calgary during this time period, Calgary Motor Products was a classy dealership located among the downtown office towers. It moved shortly after this. This Buick exudes class as well.

The last of the really big GM cars! I had a 1976 Olds Delta 88 Royal 2 door hardtop. With a 455 in it. Most of them came with 350s. The Olds shared the body shell with the Buick as well as the other full size cars.

Hello, Lou! That owner has himself a very nice car! He also has a piece of GM history: It was the last of the big Buicks before the downsized models arrived for the 1977 model year. And it's also the last of the GM hardtops (after '76, only Chrysler Corporation still offered hardtops). And it was also the final year of the 455-cubic-inch V-8. The car's color scheme is so awesome. Silver with a blue vinyl top and interior? Beautiful enough for ya? It is, to me! Looking at that car is like taking a time warp back to 1976, when we celebrated our nation's bicentennial (that Illinois plate helps us to remember quite a lot!) and there were great songs from that year too (Chicago's "If You Leave Me Now" comes to mind, I still love that song today!). And we watched Nadia Comaneci score perfect 10s at the Montreal Summer Olympics. Great year! Nineteen seventy-six was a year of upcoming changes at GM. Last of the hardtops, last of the 455, and the Cadillac El Dorado offered the last American convertible (or so we thought at the time). Well, thanks again, Lou! You covered lots of varieties of cars (from a V-6 Ford Pinto, to finned Plymouths, to big Buicks, and numerous early cars). You surely like to keep busy, I'm sure! Good-bye for now!

Gorgeous car! I had the same one in 1985 I got from my grandparents for $800.00..burgundy with burgundy leather interior and a white Landau top, but mine had coach lights. I guess it wasn’t the Custom? Same engine and wheels though. Damn, I miss that car. Fantastic ride and pretty good gas mileage too.

Super nice Buick! To change spark plugs on the passenger side, remove passenger side front tire and go in from underneath. At least it works on my Electra. Otherwise, thanks again, Lou for bringing us the best stuff.

Wow! I know this car! I know the previous owner! I bought my 1975 LeSabre survivor from him in januay 2022. A few months later he contacted me "he, I found another one. Wanna buy this too?" but I didn't need 2 😂. Also found mine on ebay! And mine is also from Fairfax - kansas.... What are the odds. I got some pictures from this '76 from when it was found. How did the owner found out when it was build exactly?

1976 Buick LeSabre!! One of my all - time favorites! I worked at a Buick dealership in 1981 and one ofe these came in on a trade. My boss beat me out of it, snatching it up for his ex - wife. 😢 Those are such beautiful, streamlined cars! I hope he enjoys his for a very long time. BTW, I'm curious to know whether it has the 350 or the 455. I couldn't tell from the video. 👍👍

I never quite understood GM's audio options back then. Why would anyone choose a deck with an AM mono radio/Stereo 8-track? By 1976 FM stereo radio was very popular.

I posted before that I owned 7 Buicks but I never owned a Le Sabre because I didn't think they looked as good as the Wildcats,Rivs, & Deuce & 1/4s. They usually only had 350s. I loved the 455s. Le.Sabres were great cars also though. When they discontinued the Centurions,the Le.Sabres had better chrome & trim & they didn't look so plain from 74 on. 455's were always optional though!!

Believe it or not there was a girl I knew from high school and her dad had this exact car in color combo and wheels and brand new. She had a car load of girlfriends and I don’t remember how I ended up in the car but I did. Matter of fact she only had a permit but her friend was licensed so we were legal.

They had completely neutered that 7.5 liter by '76. With a little work you can really wake that engine up. Make is sound great too.
