Tony was terrible in S34, but even then he: -diminished his threat level ahead of a third appearance; -learned how to compensate for some of his natural failings; and -cleared the way for Sarah to win unencumbered with Tony's baggage, thus allowing her to qualify for an all winner season and give him an ally he could rely on absolutely. I'm not suggesting he was playing a long game in sacrificing S34 because he had his eye on a bigger prize, but it sure worked out that way.

i totally agree with the assessment of aras. he was the leader of the tribe early on bc everyone quickly realized that late into the game, aras would have to be the kingslayer that took down terry. and if it wasn’t for terry’s idol i think there’s almost no chance aras makes it to final 3 even, i think it’s very possible that they would take him out first. it’s weirdly similar to what we’re seeing right now in big brother 23, where the cookout wants to keep derek x in the game so he can be the one to beat christian in competitions, but once the king is slayed then who slays the kingslayer? it’s a really tough spot, and weirdly enough aras was quite literally protected by terry’s idol more than terry himself was.

16:37 Good job pointing that out. A unknown fact was that jim rice actually REALLY fucking liked cochran as a person. He has said numerous times afterward that they would hang out for literally hours on end every day because he was just such a likeable guy. That was another reason why he reacted so harshly, even compared to others on the flip. Even beyond the fact that it killed any chance he had of winning, he felt sincerely hurt and betrayed that the only actual friend he had on the island did that. He even said if cochran told him instead of dawn, he would have worked everything in this power to convince the other tribe to do at instead, to ease that feeling, or let ozzy just let cochran keep the idol. Even with the "I never want to speak to you again" he later on admitted it was impossible to keep a angry mind at him and had since long beyond made up with him, starting roughly a year after airing

@mattmiller980910 ай бұрын
I'll defend Sandra. Her game is perfect for Old Survivor and while her game hasn't adapted much since 20, she's won twice during this era and its obvious why. Old Survivor is a lot less aggressive. You try pulling a Boston Rob in Pearl Islands or Hero v. Villains? You typically won't win as Russell's game and Rob's game showed in All Stars and 20. Sandra won twice here tho. Sure the idol existed but their games weren't solely reliant on these idols and the game was more like chess rather than checkers. Winners like Tony, if you take his general strategy from his first season and put it in 20 or in All Stars, likely wouldn't win. That was an era of bitter juries. Sandra won twice and benefitted from bitter juries but when the game is bitter juries, you gotta play with that in mind. Sandra's game doesn't work now tho I don't think but neither would many players from now which are more chaotic. You were chaotic in Old Survivor, you'd likely be kicked off early because it was more voting based on "team strength", "who do i want to live with for 30 days", and "who should get the money based on who's poorer". Its a different game now and thats not inherently a bad thing since id argue its generally more entertaining now (unless it's too many advantages or too many gimmicks). But that doesn't mean Sandra is bad, it means her game is more fit for a different game. In many past seasons of survivor a player like Adam would've been kicked out since he's not good at challenges. That type of philosophy just isn't common in New Survivor. Likewise tho many tribes suffer since they're thinking more about Day 30 than the next challenge.

I know I’m late to the party and I do agree with a lot of the list. I feel like it’s incredibly hard to judge players basing it off of their winners at war season. @@kenny9582 not wrong! His opinion isn’t wrong, just a choice. I have my choices as well. I just think Sophie has shown a wider range of tactical awareness than most other winners. Sophie has always seemed either one step ahead of the game or in the driver’s seat controlled strategic narratives, including during her blindside. Sophie had a great winning narrative going for her, Tony just had a better one. And the overall #1 besting Sophie I think just goes to show how close the two are in terms of strategic mind. Especially if you’re going to rank Kim #2. Kim and Sophie have pretty comparable weak casts from their respective seasons and I’d say Sophie had to overcome much greater adversity than Kim had to. And Sophie’s positioning in WaW, despite finishing lower was far greater than Kim’s.

She was really apt in understanding that Russel was sharpening a sword he could fall on, and she was integral to the Foa Foa 4 being well positioned and finding the cracks post-merge. You sell her short because Russell overplayed himself into a losing game where he would have won, and fault Natalie for that as though she isn’t also an educated adult that could see the overplays as they came and assess them for what they were. She played so so well, and is one of the games few UTR winners. The edit doesn’t do her ANY justice to how infinitely charming her personality is. I’m not really sold with Tom being so high. I think I would have him at least behind nick for sure. Yes he dominated his original game but his hvv game (sure he idoled out Cirie but shouldn’t you give that move to jt)

Parvati was in complete control of Micronesia. The fact that she made the final 4 all females is something that is unheard of. Cirie wasn't able to do that in any of her other seasons. While Parvati almost pulled it off again in Hero's vs Villains.

....How is the first two-time winner so low? Sandra is the best Survivor player ever. She was great in Game Changers and got screwed by a tribe swap and yeah she made a mistake in Winners at War, but it was a high risk/high reward gambit.
@tysonw46253 жыл бұрын
The main disagreement I have here and your winner rankings is Earl. I recently listened to the Fiji TEOS chapter and I do feel you have him slightly overrated. He was always on top and while he was the leader, he never really had to make many strategic moves. I also think his goal was to take yau man to FTC which imo he loses (while you have to take it with a grain a salt he lost 6-3 at the finale poll). The biggest knock against earl to me is when dreamz is debating giving up his necklace or not and earl tells him he should keep his word. If earl was actually pushing Dreamz to keep the necklace so he could vote out yau he would be higher for me but that’s not the case.
@bmillz62433 жыл бұрын
Jury has also said Earl was always perceived as the leader and decision maker and yau had no chance. So the jury has contradicted itself. Yes Earl never had to make huge outlandish strategic moves, but doesn’t that make it more impressive. He was always in control without having to ever put his neck on the line, or do something super risky. He pretty much played the perfect game. A la JT and Kim.
@bmillz62433 жыл бұрын
@Certified Cunt if you’re on top and don’t have to make moves, that’s a compliment to your game, not a detriment.

I think danni wanted to prove herself in winners at war which is why she was making so many moves quickly. She should’ve kept her same strategy because otherwise she’s a very slick player. Although I don’t fault her too much because she was only making those moves to defend herself against the old schoolers and Jeremy since they blamed her for the Natalie boot and Jeremy wanted to keep shields. I still want to see her the third time

Ben two game was so different. 1st game - ignore social and just idol his way the fire making challenge. He never even thought about how his gona go through final four if he doesn't win immunity. 2nd game - yes he could have gotten to the final 3 but with 0 respect from the jury. He been just helping Tony get to the end and did nothing by himself. Will be view as a goat by jury or questioned by them on why he stubbornly help Tony get to the end. He would have lost on any other seasons before season HHH. He should definitely be lower.

I think Tom Westman is way overrated as a player for modern Survivor. I don't think even his S10 version of himself does as well with more strategic and more diverse casts. The same can be said for most of the middle aged and older white males that fill the stereotypical leader archetype. I would put players like Sophie, Todd, Natalie Anderson, and Nick easily above him.
@danedeblasio82083 жыл бұрын
It really doesn’t make a difference if he is white or not. He is a enormous challenge asset ( 5 individual immunity wins ) so he’s guaranteed premerge safety, and postmerge he might win out and use either idols or be in the majority for any losses. Think mikes run in WA (s.30)

I don't get why Natalie White is ranked so low? I don't get why playing behind someone else is seen as such a bad strategy. she actively chose to have that meat shield in front of her, and recognized early on that Russell would never win at the end. I think Michele should be higher, and Tommy and Ben MUCH lower.

Natalie White LITERALLY says in a confessional that she doesn’t want to know what’s going on in the game and that she puts all her faith in Russell. That is TERRIBLE strategy.

@handsoaphandsoap3 жыл бұрын
I think Jenna’s very underrated as a winner and it’s kind of unfair to say her social game wasn’t strong as players post-game have talked about how well liked she was in the cast, we just don’t get to see it as the editors wanted to portray her in a certain light. Same thing with Natalie, it’s hard to gauge her as a player cause the editors fail to show her gameplay in favor of portraying Russell, we just don’t really get to see much of her gameplay to really predict how she’d do without being able to hide behind someone like a Russell. Maybe she would’ve played with a different strategy and still come out the winner, who knows. This is a big problem with Survivor up until really recently, that production just doesn’t care for their female players as strategists who aren’t like a Parvati or a Cirie; playing an underrated social game isn’t valued by production as a female castaway, especially if some dude is making wild flashy moves next to her.
@anonymous-ii2jr2 жыл бұрын
this this this. like people will list off every single sociable female winner as the bottom winners and not have the ability to reflect on that and how their opinions might be skewed by how basically all the women who fill that role are historically under-edited in terms of flashier strategic and physical players. the way to win the game is to make it to the end and convince people to give you a million dollars, and people having the social skills to build strong enough bonds to do both of those shouldnt be disregarded bc the editors suck at showing how they won. also, the social female winners tend to sit next to people that the jury would HATE to vote for, and thats a valid strategy like why would you choose to sit next to people the jury WANTS to vote for? people just have a VERY narrow view of what makes something a “good” game and so these rankings are just always so telling of their biases LMAO.

@@bigbuffguy9589 , i don't know. i am fine with them being in the same tier, since they won their 2nd season. i personally think the boring, intentionally passive players are better than the sexy, aggressive strategists. i am more impressed with the early players since they had less "survivor data" to go on. the new players only know what they do because they watched the show. that could make for an argument in their favor, but i also don't think they are as good at target-mitigation because they are so strategically aggressive. if we have every player ever compete in enough seasons to have faced every other player once, i think the passive players win more than the aggressive ones, though they're more boring to watch. i think parvati is better at reading people than sarah, though sarah is a better athlete. idk. i am fine either way.
