Just watched a documentary on this case. Can’t believe the police officers and FBI agents involved in this investigation were not prosecuted of their gross negligence, dereliction of duty & gross incompetence. Definitely something incredibly sick with US Police and FBI.

…Yeah, and another thing; in the context of the US, the ‘out of court’ settlement they won was derisory. Should have been, at least, 10X the sum!!!

Yeah, plus the police told him he didn’t pass. I’ve heard even when you pass, they will tell you, you didn’t. I think it’s a scare tactic. So he probably did pass, but like you said, not a good idea.

Yeah there’s a reason it’s not being used anymore in most countries…. USA and Canada are basically the only developed countries that still use it. Even though they acknowledge it’s not reliable. You can’t use it in court. You can’t use it as evidence. But they use it anyway in the investigations.

Survivors was an odd term to use in the apology. It alludes to an after the facts situation while Quinn was accused during. Nevertheless, I hope the new Chief does improve the humility so badly needed at the V.PD.

Only 2.5 Million? Why is it Doctors have to have malpractice insurance but cops do not?
@tangyjoe43263 жыл бұрын
That’s a really good point! I think it would make police much more accountable if they had to have personal malpractice insurance instead of qualified immunity. They can still be sued for serious crimes under qualified immunity but if it were switched to malpractice insurance then they’d have to be accountable for all the smaller (smaller to everyone but the victim of course) stuff they get away with. However, it would probably just end up being endless frivolous law suits bankrupting even the good cops and only getting a bunch of lawyers rich. But there needs to be a better way. Suing a city or police department just means you and I, Joe Taxpayer, are the ones paying for their bad deeds. I don’t believe in defunding the police. I believe much more time and money should be spent on training, lots and lots of training, higher levels of oversight (including 24/7 body cams while on duty, even when not interacting with the public, except bathroom and lunch breaks), and higher pay to attract the best of the best while cutting red tape (and union power) to weed out the bad apples including a national database of LE performance records, complaints and disciplinary actions so the bad apples can’t just move to a different jurisdiction but have to find a different career.
