Wow. I was 21 when it aired in NZ and I'm now 70. Just seems like yesterday. And, coincidentally I just watched the full 3 seasons a couple of weeks ago KZbin.

So glad Big Finish carried this series on and grateful that Carolyn and Lucy agreed to do it. A shame Greg's character died though but at least you got him back for awhile in the early stories

I was a similar age and the one thing I remember is my Dad saying 'why is Vic stuck with telling the children stories because he can't walk? He can do ANY job which involves a table or workbench, he's got all the books there, why isn't he woodworking tools or fixing bits of machines?' and that informed my whole life outlook on disabilities and the way disabled people are seen and portrayed

I was the same age as the children in Survivors when I watched the original TV series. I remember being shocked at seeing how ‘grown ups’ would behave in response to a natural disaster. It made me wonder how my parents and teachers would act in such a situation. Never imagined we would live through such real pandemic.

Brilliant concept by Terry Nation, Excellent Acting throughout by ALL the cast. Hardly any situations that one would NOT do in the given circumstance. A wonderful template for any possible real life disaster. It gives HOPE for all humanity to survive. Bicycles could have been used more throughout (keep fit, distances to travel / communicate and movement of supplies etc). So good to see this addition. Well Done. Keep the Fan Club going.

I can give you an Example of that - yes of a BBC TV series, which was created by Terry Nation in the mid 1970s - called Survivors. There were lots of scraps between Nation, the Producer, it's directors & some of the cast - but despite all that, they created something pretty wonderful. Try it & see - it's all on DVD the fact all the episodes survived, was a miracle itself - as in those days, the 2 inch videotape was very expensive & often re-used.

The powers that be might not have shown Survivors during the recent medical excitement but I certainly sent the opening titles to everyone when that happened :D I am so glad that KZbin has seen fit to give me a little nudge with this piece so I know to seek these out :) Survivors, as a tale, had a huge impact on me when it was released. Back then we all thought we were going to die in nuclear fire and then this came along. You might think that would make it mentally worse - yet another way we were all going to die! But rather, Survivors, at it's core, is about making it through to the other side - it's actually hopeful, despite everything. Somewhere I still have the half done story that I wrote when I was about sixteen of a group of young survivors dealing with the aftermath of the collapse of the modern world. The characters were people I knew and the locations were places I knew but the inspiration was entirely Survivors :chuckles: I am half sure that the characters of Greg and Charles are why I became an engineer - a power systems SCADA engineer at that :D I always like to say that the scenes in Dinorwig (the hydro station) show my systems but really my stuff wasn't commissioned until twenty years after the series :chuckles: One thing is for certain, all the learning I have done on 'ancient' technologies for weaving and candle making and soap making (yes, Lucy (Jenny), I remember your strop about soap making duty :)) was prompted by Survivors and the need to be 'ready' if the wheels ever come off civilisation. Thinking back to the initial run, one thing that really changed for me on re-watching it much later in the DVD days was that episode where vile fellows found the settlement and captured everyone. When I first saw it as a barely-teen I didn't really get what had happened when Jenny 'distracted' the bad guys until they could be dealt with. Watching it later, even recalling the plot, I had one of those internal "oh my god!" moments when I realised what she had done to save everyone. Not all warriors are plain to see at first glance!

This was an amazing series and has stood the test of time (obviously apart from the dire series 3). Every week a different subject tackled. Personally i found no difference between the lecherous Tom Price and creepy Charles whose main thrust (for want of a better word) was setting up a one man brood mare industry, presumably because he wanted a whole new generation of human inbreds.
