Susan's Soaps & More Soap Shop Tour - Inside the Soap Shop (Part III)

Susan and Irene show unmolding a block of soap and then cutting the soap into logs. They show how the mold has been lined inside the mold and then cuts the 25 block into logs.
After the soap is cut into 15 logs then each log is cut into bars.

Fun series! I'll have to look up the other episodes! Soapy thumbs up from one creator to another. I use the Costco boxes to stack or do the Aleppo stacks that can be shifted around for the bigger batches. Crazy how like minds think alike. Loved it. :)Jen

Glad you liked the video. Yes we melt the oils and mix the lye, actually a couple of days before and then adjust the temps to where we want them the day of mixing.

Regarding the cutter you used for cutting the soap into blocks, where did you buy it from and what is the name ?

@pampamy Thanks for your question. I don't need to preserve the soaps because of the ph factor. Eventually, the oils can go rancid but they won't actually spoil with bacteria.

@RunicAxe It is a combination of factors; your original formula including your water percentage as well as how soon you cut it after it has been poured.

Great Vidoe!! I noticed you pre-melted your oil and pre-mixed your lye the day before. I was wondering if you mixed them at room temp the next day or if you had to re-warm the oils or lye?

If you do a water discount, the saponification process will go much faster and it reduces drying time by weeks.

carolineleiden actually for cold processed soap, the saponification process is usually complete after about 8 hours. While using in a discounted recipe it does aid in speeding up the curing process, but this isn’t the same as the bar needing time to saponify.

Actually, we get about 90 bars from a 1/2 block and approx. 180 from a full block of soap.

Sure, We use parchment paper to line the sides of the molds with. On the bottom we use wax paper. Hope that helps.

I don't make any clothes washing soap. This video just shows a little bit about how we make bars. Liquid soapmaking is a whole different process. There are a number of books on the market. I would check into those.
