Sushant jhi, Please invite historians like Sundar K Malla, not actors like Mohan Khanal. Pleae read my comments on the comments section. Khanal jhi made some outrageous statement which is really inaccurate based on all historical accounts. General people will absorb what you feed them, just because they take it doesn’t mean it’s correct and one shouldn’t do it for the sake for commercial popularism. Malla rulers were never Thakuris. Ari Malla the founder of Malla dynasty to start with was a Kathmandu local who adopted the Malla name when he became king. Then came Malla son-in-law Jayasthiti Malla after marriage to a Malla clan took his wife’s Malla name and became a Malla king. But he was from Mithilda. And there’s no relation between the thakuri mallas in the west and Kathmandu Mallas. Thus historians who write about Thakuri narrative are attempting to rewrite history. And west Nepal and Nepal Mandal have never been under one umbrella under the Lichavis or after. What Khanal said is outrageous. Please don’t invite such historians for the sake of commercial popularism. The man lacks credibility. PleSe invite Sundar K Malla.

Sushant jhi, please make clarification on your podcast that Usage of the word Thakuri does not mean Thakuri Bhansa. It’s a translation from the word Thaku from Newari or Nepal Bhasa, which means Thakur or a ruling class. Historian Mary Slusher, calls usage of the word Thakuri in describing any rulers of Nepal Mandal very misleading and misinformation. Your podcast is very popular and accurate information is very important. The usage of the word Thakuri is used so blatantly by writers that people are being mislead to think it’s the thakuri bhansa. Please educate people on your show. You will be doing a great service.

Dai, I really enjoyed both the Podcast with Professor Khanal, I know it is impossible to capture all his knowledge in a few hours but what you have done is very commendable and at least I can now imagine a timeline of events in our history. As mentioned by many people here in the comments, credibility of information is always of question, so why not have someone other historian talk about similar events of our history. Also, I am very interested to know about the history of our Language today, how Nepali overtook the Nepal Bhasa in Kathmandu and both of its history. Thank you once again for your effort to educate and aware fellow Nepalis.

Khanal jhi, I found your historical narrative at some of the places quite lopsided or biased. 1. You stated Mallas were Thakuris and later they became Newars. Sir, where is it written they were Thakuris? Ari Malla started the Malla name some time in 12 AD after he became king. Ari Malla was a local person born and bred in Kathmandu valley. No historians say he was Thakuri neither anywhere it’s written he was a Thakuri. Later Jayasthiti Malla married the Malla princess and also became a Malla, but he was from Mithilda, a Maithali. Sir, what is this Thakuri stuff? The Thakuri Mallas in the west are totally different from the Mallas in Kathmandu. History points out there’s no relation- kings in west Nepal have never ruled Nepal Mandal (Kathmandu) and kings in Nepal Mandal have never ruled west Nepal 2. Newa was a civilization in the past and not a community or a “samudaya”. That is correct. But today Newa has become a community or a “samudaya”. Therefore, the Lichavis, Kirantis and the Mallas are all ancient heritage of Newa community, irrespective of how you define the word Newa. The Nepal Bhasa language, Nepal Sambat and all the cultural attributes of the Lichavis, Kirantis and the Mallas you find it in the Newa community today. You seem to totally disregard this heritage. 3. Historian Dilli Raman Regmi and all other historians point out that throughout Lichavi and Malla period, Kathmandu valley and west Nepal have never been one country. You point out Khas rajya separated from Nepal Mandal and became Khas kingdoms in the west. Where did this come from? This seems to be your own narrative, the way you want people to understand history whether right or wrong. 4. Pradhan jhi, please ask questions to historians on your program asking for back up documents. You can’t give them a free hand to say what they please. There’s an agenda out there to slowly remove the Newa civilization out of the equation in the historical narrative of Nepal Mandal by historians.

I totally agree with Hada ji. The so called Thakuri connection is not there at all. The high caste Newa like the Mallas, Pradhanangs etc. call themselves Thakoo... not Thakuri🫣 Also the Malla kings are called Thakoo juju ie Thakoo kings So these so called 'experts' substituted Thakuri for the Thakoo?!!? The Thakuri are non Vedic Khas- Arya whereas the Malla and Lichhavi are Vedic Aryan from Vaishali and Mithilanchal from North India. So get your facts correct and don't believe these people. The insider view from the Newa people is more authentic. FYI Hada surname is a migrant Rajput from Rajasthan area to Bhaktapur during the Malla era. And now a respectable member caste of the Newa community. Over eons of evolution, the Nepal Valley civilization has been layered with Kirants, Lichhavis, Mallas and other genetic pools and we have now the Newa diaspora with a distinct Newa culture albeit with rituals nuances in different caste categories. I would bsuggest Sushant to pick up more credible and knowledgeable personalities for his podcasts. My bad ....😎🤨

i agree in your 3rd statement.. until 13th century khas kingdom was bigger than present nepal and has border till trishuli.and from trishuli lichavi rajya begins... khasmandal and nepamandal never merged till prithvi narayanshah's unification..khasmalla king's attacked and use to take tax is true ..but khas empire and nepamandal were never a single kingdom...

The word “Thakuri” was used only from the 18th century after translating from Newari word “Thaku” used for the nobles during Medieval era and The word “Thaku” derived from the word “Thakur” from North India. Thus when we see writers using the word “Thakuri” for Nepal Mandal rulers, it whatsoever does not mean the Khas Thakuri Bhansa what we know today. The Thakus are part of the Newa diaspora today. You also have to agree to this.

​@@viper7123 Khas kingdom is doubtful to be claimed as a kingdom in my opinion, there were noted as of multiiple kingdoms present in khas rajya but even before this it Kirata empire expanded far beyond what is known today as Nepal to the areas of North India. The reunification is also been noted in Malla dynasty after which the kingdom got divided into his family and eventually got into princely states as of what was known as khas rajya named after the kings(rajput probably) who came from India after Mughal invasions. Some parts of Khas rajya were notably under rule of various other empires, the same is not the case for Nepal mandala which is why Nepal remains an independent Kingdom from India. As a matter of fact PN Shah notably stated that he wished to rule over Nepal mandala before his campaign of reunification.

this is not well established, Buddha himself is noted to be from a Hindu family, the practise in those areas were pre buddha era imo Shamanism/Animism and then changed to Buddhism which then changed into the current "Hindu" cermonial statuses. Please try not to create divisons by creating separate divisons in between Hindu and Buddhist labels and understand they likely adapted to the rule of law that was brought about during those times.

I thought to get some knowledge from your podcast.
