That take is intercut with all the other footage, but they keep coming back to that two-fer of them both and you can see how Andy is frozen still and then grooving. I just enjoy that part immensely. The one amazing constant is how hard their music has always slapped. Sure its funny and original, but they're obviously huge music fans, because they take the music really seriously and its amazingly well produced. You can listen to them to laugh, or also because they make total bops. I'm super excited that they're making new stuff, although I was hoping to see a promo for a new project at the end of this video. Either way, thank you, gentlemen. This is as funny and cool as anything you've ever done, and fits right in with my other favorites... "Boombox", "Space Olympics", "Jizz In My Pants", "We're Back" and "The Old Saloon". What are you favorite songs by the Lonely Island, not for humor, but solely for the music?
@BayviewGhost2 ай бұрын
Trouble on Dookie Island. I feel like it often gets overlooked because it never got a video, but it's a legit banger hip hop track that just happens to be about some guys violently shitting themselves to death during a failed robbery. It's absolutely hilarious, but it's also just really well-made overall and it's always stood out to me as one of their better songs in a purely musical sense.
@Nothingseen2 ай бұрын
Punch you in the jeans. And you're right, the joke was always "an actually good contemporary song about something really stupid," which is just a really solid gag. Comedy music has been around forever, Weird Al was a mainstream hit, but the music never felt like it was supposed to be good. Weird Al's singing and lyrics were both silly, but the Lonely Island always delivers performances that feel true to the genre, and the sincere delivery of stupid words is a wonderful contradiction that's at the core of the humor.
@SeanGrantstormpinball2 ай бұрын
@@BayviewGhost I agree completely. That one sounds like a golden age hip hop track from the mid 90s. If not for the lyrics it might be known as a rap classic. Those guys must've listened to a lot of East Coast rap when they were younger.
@SeanGrantstormpinball2 ай бұрын
@@Nothingseen The beat for Punch You in the Jeans reminds me of "Passin' Me By" by the Pharcyde. It has the same slow, smooth delivery. I agree that the fact that the music is as good as it is, makes the humor even funnier. And on top of that I also think that its possible that the three guys from the Lonely Island would've liked to have had a career in music, (because they're good at it) but realized that humor gave them a better shot at success (because of their image), so making humorous songs was the best of both worlds. Weird Al is a good comparison because he was probably the most consistently successful artist to combine humor and music. In his case, I think the music also had to be goofier because it was a comedic remake of known popular songs. The fact that Lonely Island made original songs probably made it more possible for them to sound better as well.

On the omakase line, the "Nooo..." goes down and kinda trails off, then at the end of the next line the "Sooo..." goes back up. The mirroring(?) of those two lines was something I found interesting musically.

I try to imagine the whole business and picture a worker sitting in a bathroom stall all day with raw fish waiting to serve someone. Are they making the sushi in the bathroom or is it premade, but less fresh. For that quality I feel they need to make it in the bathroom so it is fresher and have the bathroom air all over it. Song keeps getting better the more you think about it.
@haywoodjablonski88282 ай бұрын
They have to make it at a centralized location to keep costs in check while maintaining high quality. How much do you think each piece of sushi costs on the app? I’d say $15-20

Longtime TLI fan with three main takeways: 1. "Hear me out!" FINALLY made it into a frap and I am living for it 2. *Someone* forgets to eat often enough for it to come up 2x in the new track 3. Our boys still have it (wish Jorma had laid down this track, but they still did ok w/o him. Come back from Finland, Jorm! We need your sweet, gentle heart in the mix) Bonus takeaway: I love that they still haven't figured out how to end a song, but that they gave us more than 2 minutes this time 🥰 Hi Seth.
