The ending was cruel, Clarence put William's wife and daughter in a trance sleep, Williams thought Clarence was alone in the room when he was not. Williams lit the fire in hope to kill Clarence but his wife and daughter were killed in the fire. And Clarence like he said before, restarted his practice as a psychiatrist and put Williams in the insane asylum as he intended to. Yeah the evil won this time

What exactly is the implication at the end? I feel like it could be interpreted a few ways.

AttnDefDis thats why it’s written that way 🤗🤗 purposefully ambiguous. I’m pretty sure everything about William’s story is the truth and Clarence is a psychiatrist who also practices Thelema and survived the fire because he could not die as whatever Clarence was subject to at William’s hands William’s wife and daughter were made to suffer instead.
