I like Elvis version - and it’s very rare that someone would come along and knock Elvis off the throne - but Terry Stafford did just that. Terry took off like a rocket with his version of Suspicion - I was station at Sheppard Air Force Base In Witchita Falls, Texas and I go down to the Airman’s Club and listen to the music on the Duke Box and Terry Stafford “Suspicion” would be the song that everyone played. So thanks Terry for the memories - You are surely miss - but we have your suspicion to listen to. Thanks again

If only we had a time machine where you could get Elvis and Terry Stafford to sing in harmony on this one, Terry Stafford's arrangement shades it for me, the backing vocal on his version brings the song to a different level, the biggest compliment I could pay Terry is that if you closed your eyes you'd think it was Elvis you were listening to, the Teresa Brewer version not at the races for me I'm afraid.

You can have all the wonderful arrangements and back up singers, bells and whistles as you like but at the end of the day it's the voice that matters and Elvis had the golden voice that nobody could match. Stafford tries hard but doesn't come anywhere near the king in his version. I'm sticking with Elvis on this one, the original and the best!

@@57Class No he wasn’t. As the uploader of this clip has correctly stated, Elvis first released this song on the Pot Luck album in March 1962. Terry’s cover version was released as a single in February 1964. RCA finally decided to release Elvis’ version as a single in April 1964 but by that stage Terry’s version had achieved some major success on the charts and Elvis' version didn’t end up doing well at all.

Thanks for putting this three versions together, that way I could pick different aspects of the same song. Most important thing to me is the lirics., I can understand the words and pronunciation on Teresa Breawer version better on her version. In the tone of voice and rithem I like it better on Terry Stafford version. Terry Stafford wrote this song when he was only 21 and he has put so much of himself into it and it's simply the best. Terry Stafford also wrote "Amarillo by Morning" and while Terry's original version was very good, the cover by George Strait kills it!
