I've been fairly critical of this ship from the last few episodes. I only have question for this episode. Why wasn't the steering gear greased on a regular basis? I would think that it would be greased as part of its normal maintenance. But perhaps I'm just being nit-picking. As far as the Russians - it was just Russians being Russians. I served in The US Navy during the Vietnam War, and we had a Soviet "fishing trawler" shadowing us everywhere we went. The interesting part was that the "fishing trawlers" had about 100 antennae sticking up from it. I was touched by their Remembrance Day ceremony. As someone who has lost many friends, ceremonies such as this are always tough, but necessary.

I'm aware they decided that they could do without onboard maintainers back in the 80s and stopped training artificers (I was one). Hence some stoker ( termed very mistakenly "engineer ") is finding ungreased parts where once there would be planned maintenance. I think they've learned their lesson as they're recruiting engineers again.

All these years have passed and I still can’t explain it. lol. I do want to convey my respects and appreciation to that spiffy UK Destroyer and its crew. Best wishes and safety to that wonderful crew.

@@kuidaorekitchen5850 that's the problem, because they aren't informed how it was, they get the idea it was always so bloody awful. The ships I was on were steam. More critical danger wise as steam is deadly stuff. We seldom failed to sail on time with everything working and looking much better than those awful diesel generators I was observing on the video. Sadly, the confidence I used to have in the superiority of the Royal Navy is diminished and gone into the West as they say. The pride in the nailing of flash up on time and ringing up to the bridge that , " main engines ready for sea, sir"..

This is nice, but it raises some questions. How did the Russians know where to be and when to be there to intercept the U.S. submarine? The radar showed an awful lot of Russian vessels off the coast of Ireland, which the Russians had to know would attract unwanted attention from the Royal Navy. The Russian bomber that flew over H.M.S. Northumberland was "a few miles" off the coast of Ireland and flying toward Ireland. Where were the Typhoons to intercept it?

This is really good content. It captivates me immensely. I wonder how the Russians know that an American submarine is going to dock and at what location? Also, I'm not sure if that noise will really help. With the materials I have at my disposal, I can build a drone boat so small that it can easily approach within a meter of the submarine without anyone noticing. This video gives me confidence on one hand and, on the other hand, not at all.

When it comes to Navys, the British Navy has so much experience, and I think your warships are better than ours in many ways. The Type 45 is a beast and I'm glad you're on our side. I fear WW3 has already started and if so I hope we can stand united and do what needs to be done, no more or no less. I'm a Republican that voted for Trump last go around. That being said, I'm not sure I'll vote for him purely for his foreign policies, i.e., anti NATO, anti Ukraine, etc. This sucks because Biden has been a crappy president and Trump was awesome.
