Agree that this is a stunning 4K release, John. For me, although it's not my favourite Argento (Tenebrae and Deep Red edge it for me) it's certainly the best presentation, and that Goblin score cranked up in Dolby Atmos is just superb

I don't have a 4K tv but my dvd player is 4K and I have been buying a lot of Blue Ray and most were movies you recommended. Also the price, so for me I have on other comments told you I will stick with Blue Ray, as I am getting a lot of great bargains as well. I got only last week "Judgement Night" starring Emilio Estarvez. I have been after for ages and finally got it and yea, on Blue Ray. I also bought "Hard Boiled" starring Chow Yun Fat, which I have had for decades on vhs...but back to "Suspiria" and your review has made me sit up and decide, if I buy a 4K dvd then it is going to be this one, and as you showed, it has both discs inc' a Blue Ray, but yea I will now be reconsidering my options to get my 1st 4K dvd. I do have "Suspiria" but on vhs. However it is the uncut special edition in widescreen so quite rare now I imagine. It still looks and sounds good but .. time to upgrade John, as I do think this is a brilliant movie and I do have the soundtrack on vinyl, I bought when it 1st came out. Hi Jim 😊😊👍👍 just to confirm that the blu ray of Suspiria only has the extras on and not the film on the disc, just the 4k disc has the film on 👍👍 its the best disc to start a 4k collection if you start down that avenue mate 😊😊👍👍 I can't recommend it enough, if you are upgrading to 4k, ask around on KZbin if a disc is worth the upgrade mate as you want to be absolutely blown away by them, because as you say a lot of blu rays look absolutely amazing now!! But some 4ks are the absolute pinnacle of the film so they deserve that upgrade mate! I think that VHS is probably worth something for sure Jim and having the soundtrack on vinyl sounds incredible mate 🤩🤩🤩👏👏👏

@@MondoChelloveckMovies Thankyou John for letting me know about the 2nd disc. My dvd player will play 4K and maybe even do some upscaling on the tv I have at the moment. It is 1080p and the picture is great. I took my time using the menu to alter colour, contrast, brightness etc so I'm sure "Suspiria" will look superb but I am well aware it will take a 4K tv to get the full experience. I will have the dvd "Suspiria" there to be the 1st dvd to play when I eventually get a new tv. Knowing me only just getting into Blue Ray discs, I will probably be changing to 4K when the 8K come out. Lol Cheers John ! Regards Jim

Hi John Yes agree with you on this particularly 4k release. The way dario argento shot a filmed Suspiria was made for 4k and HDR. Although obviously in 1977 he did not know there would be 4k out there in the future. Great review as always John. 👍👍🎥😊

i think you are spot on Suspiria is the bench mark for what a UHD can look like! it’s the perfect demo disc to sell anyone on the UHD format! I honestly think Francis Ford Coppola’s One from the Heart is in many ways the perfect companion piece to Suspiria (It’s getting a UHD Directors cut) Which i’m very excited to see (Not a flawless film but, it’s visually on a different level then so many films (I highly recommend Suspiria fans check this film out) you’ll see a lot of comparisons to each other

Hi John, another great video. This is a film I want to like more than I do. I agree about the colours, vibrancy and style. I also love that opening scene from the airport to arriving at the dance school front door. However, I find the plot and pacing a bit incoherent and the ending just fell flat. I also don’t find Jessica Harper leading lady material. P.S. Have-you noticed Argento’s face/cameo on the taxi drivers glass partition when she asks how long it has been raining? Cheers Andrew 👍👍

Great disc! I just grabbed the Italian 4k for Bava's BLACK SUNDAY. Supposedly looks good even without HDR or DV. Some of these Bava titles may not get a release in the US or UK cause the 4K rights are really expensive now.

Not seen this film for about 20 years when I got it on a really good DVD transfer and watched it on a Panasonic CRT and the picture quality was excellent. Not got it on Blu ray so I will pick this up in the not to distant future. The colours look stunning because it was filmed in Technicolor I believe.

Already happened a few years ago. CultFilms released a 3-disc ltd. edition in native 4K, approved by Argento. Looks and sounds great, although there is debate over which edition looks best. IMO, both versions are interesting. The Cultfilms TLE release looks very natural, but possibly a bit understated in places, while the Syanpse version is cartoon colorful, and perhaps a little overcooked in places. Only the Synapse version has the Atmos track and the 4-channel audio. If you're itching for this in 4K, I'd just go for the Synapse release. There's no telling how long it might take CultFilms to widely release this in UHD again.
