It was love at first sight. Or perhaps I should say, love after the first operations session.
In January of 2019, I was invited to join the crew of Michael Hauk’s Susquehanna & New York Railroad. After spending a few hours running trains on his HO layout, I was so enamored with it that I decided I wanted to take it home with me. Since I couldn’t physically do this, it became the first layout I built in Trainz Railroad Simulator which you see here. But what makes this obscure Northeast Pennsylvania shortline an unforgettable layout?

Nick, Jaw-droppingly amazing! I'd better get cracking on more scenery, the digital version is way more beautiful than the real layout!

Your layout already has some beautiful scenes, and it is fun to follow your blog and see your continued progress. Thanks for inviting me over and answering my many questions!

Funnily enough every feature you mentioned about this layout is also in mine, plus bell codes. Pretty cool

I live quite close to the only steam survivor of the SNY, No.116, which now resides in Meridian, Mississippi, as Meridian and Bigbee River 116.

I'm headed to Mike's this weekend for my 18th op session since Jan 2014 which was the first session. I told the other operators that "This is the railroad that we all wished we had built." Excellent video, I recognized many of the scenes. Wheelerville and Laquin are especially good.

Great video and rendition of a real layout. I live near the old line (near Wheelerville, pa highest point on the line, the grades were steep and often trains had to be split and taken at halves to the top). Rugged country, hard to believe what the old times did when the line was relocated to reduce grades in 1902.

Thanks for watching. I've learned so much about the prototype thanks to Mike's layout, and it really was a neat railroad.

I appreciate that instead of going to the effort of modeling the facia/room space you just used the extra space to expand the layout scenes... It always seemed weird to me why we would needlessly waste space when the entire point of using a simulator is to get away from the limitations of physical space restriction... It's one thing if it adds to the theme & immersion of the route/layout, but more often than not it just seems like lack of creativity to be brutally honest... Like the creator couldn't think of something to fill out the scene so they just cut it away at the trackside. (none of this applies if you're using Trainz to plan out a real layout, as obviously you actually _do_ need to take space into consideration)

Great layout! Can I get Time Table and Work Order mentioned in the end of the video anywhere?

Here's the question, Nick - I know you've got way more experience in this than I, and I currently don't have a PC, but shall I finish my 1:1 scale recreation of the G&D or will you? There is a "G&D" route already in existence but it's about 2x the size of the prototype, and I started work on a more accurate replica before losing interest due to other factors. Loving this series so far. Like a mini At The Railyard, it really gets the nostalgia going
