As a certified gas technician it would have to have been leaking for a while I can't imagine that happening if people were on their game and had ran out and shut the gas valve off immediately. It would have taken a significant amount of gas to have made that big of an explosion. And to be honest if there were more than one of them, there is so little gas pressure in house gas lines that one person could have stopped the leak with their hand, while the other person shut the house gas valve off, I've done it.

You can see the excavator in the shots... two pronto plumbing and drain trucks out front and some first responders already on the scene when it pops. They def hit the "high" pressure side outside the house or maybe ripped the feed off the meter in the house dumping gas into the home. At 35-55 psi it wouldn't take long. Why did no one shut the street valve? smh.

The cat actually survived, it was seen wandering around and brought to the vet. It most likely was outside the house by the time of the explosion.

Of all of the cats I’ve had growing up (probably 6), only one of them lived to an old age and was put down cause of cancer. All the others either went missing on Halloween (2 black cats), hit by a car, or unknown. They were all indoor cats except one who really liked our old pool table and would chill there. He was one of the black cats, I’ll never forget you Carlos.

If the contractor is at fault for digging over a marked gas line then that insurance will have to cover it. If ugi failed to properly mark their lines, then ugi will have to pay for the damages.
