I cannot imagine what it was like watching this when it first aired in 1980, getting bits and pieces, and having the torture of waiting til the next day or *gasp!* over the weekend to see what happens next. It was exciting as hell. You couldn't wait til the next day or weekend to be over. The anticipation and wait just built up the excitement more and more. I was 14 and mesmerized by Luke.

Oh, I dreaded this. I've been coming back to this playlist every few years and this still gets me. Did anyone notice that at 2:48 Luke is directly looking into the camera, and trying to block our view with his hand? Loved this!!! I've never seen him or any other actor interact with the camera before. It made for a great effect. This makes us devoted viewers part of the effing press, though. Damn ;)

Was afraid to watch beyond 299 after all the warnings of disappointment ahead, but am glad I did. It's very well done (beyond the fact that you have to suspend disbelief about there being a mob of reporters inside the police station). Laura's meltdown is understandable--I think a lot of us have had moments where our courage fails us and we do the wrong thing

I remember this episode just like it was yesterday. I couldn't believe what came out of Laura's mouth. "The Summer on the Run" was the best Soap Opera Storyline ever - hands down!

If you are happy you don't have much story, but I still think they could have found a storyline and kept them together. This just sets them back to start all over again and take forever getting back to where already were.

I know what you mean, she reverted back in David Hamilton time, she actually said "Scotty" as she's looking at reporters. She ran away to a commune after Hamilton scandal and Scotty went in search of her and rescued her from being trafficked. So she's in PTSD shock.

@@sharonjonsy9412 you're speaking my language. I had stopped watching GH for years until it was announced that Luke and Laura were returning. Prior to that Anthony Geary was playing the role of Luke's cousin or something. But he transitioned right back into Luke and Laura was Laura. I loved it. Not only that there was perfect casting for their son lucky. Their return was also some of the best TV. Unfortunately though whomever decided that they wanted to destroy one of the best couples on TV or even the movie scream ever. It should never have happened.

I remember this episode! I was 12 years old watching this in 1980. They left us hanging on a Friday! Laura says, "Of course I'm Mrs. Baldwin. Where is Scotty?" And that was at 4 p.m., when General Hospital went off. It left us hanging on those words! Oh my God! I will never forget it! I worried all weekend long over this! I'm serious. I'm 49 years old and still remember freaking out when she said it, then worrying all weekend!

Donna Gail back when GH knew how to REALLY reel us in and keep us hooked!! I felt sick the first time I saw this, so heartbroken for Luke. But what follows really is the best of LnL, in my opinion!!

@@suemcgee612 This storyline is just retread. Only this time Laura has to pursue Luke, instead of the first time when Luke pursued Laura, then another summer adventure. Don't get me wrong I love them but, this storyline for me is not as good as the first one. Its derivative of the first one. Genie Francis and Anthony Geary both say the left handed boy was their favorite.

Leslie is so good in this scene. You could see the expression of a mother who was worried for her baby. And I love the way Brian turned his back while protecting leslie and laura.

Totally unrealistic. Why would the police invite a mob scene in a police department. The police would take the families feelings into account and would have brought them in quietly and barring the press. This is just to have the excuse to break them up and start this whole relationship over again. Such a waste.

Seeing Luke so heartbroken after what happens at the police station is SO sad but the storyline is so fantastic in the following episodes and even better in my opinion(or at least every bit as good) than before with the L&L chemistry, not to mention the buildup to them getting back together, that it had to be done this way. Sorry for the run on sentence but I just couldn't find a place to stop and start a new sentence.:}

They both break my heart here in this scene. I feel for both of them so much. Laura is terrified with the vicious onslaught of press and memories of what happened before w the press. Luke is just desperate for an asseration that she and Luke are together he does not want to push Laura .He just wants to make sure he still has the one &only LOVEof his life. Laura is upset with what she said while cornered and wants only Luke!!!

I watched until right before about 3 episodes ago when he and Laura to their vows. I waited about 6 months at least before starting to those preceding scenes and this one today. I've been avoiding this clip just because I know what was gonna happen. At the same time, I am at the point where I'm ready for the next round now. I love old school GH.

I remember watching this the first time and shouting at the TV, "Laura, are you CRAZY?!" I couldn't BELIEVE what she said. But Luke should have seen this coming, he knew she was afraid. I agree with the other comments here. What were all these people doing here? Why would the police let reporters question them before they did? It seems to me L&L would have been secretly brought In a back door and spirited in for questioning. I don't think even family would be allowed to see them first!

No one could believe what she said, because it WAS unbelievable. I don't care how spooked she was, she loved Luke, she knows that and that could have carried her through, but TPTB took the easy road of breakup to keep the ratings gravy train going, instead of giving the loyal fans what they wanted.

So independent that ahe went back to Luke. It just feels so phony. Firstly, that would completely shut Laura out, and not cut her any slack, especially she put up with a lot of his inappropriate behavior. Just splitting them up till slow walk getting them back together for another summer adventure. I though so back in the day and I think so now. A waste of a lot of months when they could have been together, but drama would not allow.

@@2006bbbb1 But I do believe Laura needed that time to grow up. She went from her parents house and rules to Scotty's. I t was wonderful watching her mature and pay her own way. She definitely grew up from the spoiled princess. This time made Laura a better person. Plus I liked seeing her date Robert Scorpio. I just wish she could have gotten her divorce handled during this time.

What crazy person thought Lee was a great idea for Laura's lawyer? My heart breaks for Luke each time I watch. TG is terrific, his devastation is total. Why would Laura think it was ok to leave this catastrophic situation for another day? I wouldn't have left the station until I saw Luke and straightened it out! How can she let the "grownups" order her around again? I realize this is a writer's ploy to break them up to force Laura to grow up, and for the ratings, but it is hard to watch.

@entertainme3000 NO it has nothing to do with the original clips.. just with what we do when we upload them. My 01-02 playlist was first.. and it was so quiet nobody can hear it.. so I had to add an amp into my uploading process...and since most of our computers have volume switches, and YT has a volume slide bar... better it be loud than soft. Now when I am done with 95-96 I have to redo 01-02 so everyone can hear the dialogue.

I so agree - I mean who the hell had the idea of hiring Lee - father of the husband she left - as Laura's lawyer??? Her parents??? Come on... she had to tell the police all the details of her run with Luke in front of her father-in-law... PLUS: in which world are reporters allowed to interview suspects/witnesses in a police station even before the police does... hmmm a bit too soapy for my taste but still dramatic and captivating to watch after all these years!

According to the October 1980 calender, this episode would have premiered on Wednesday or Thursday. I wasn't expecting anything dramatic that day. So when I got home, Luke and Laura were already at the police station.

Nowadays, it would be obvious that Laura was traumatized from the David Hamilton business. Luke would recognize that it was a trauma response from Laura when they were around the reporters and he would've understood her reaction. My oh my how times have changed. There's more cognizance of such things. Of course, this was just a TV show so there's that too! Lol

Also, they take down Frank Smith and company and the only thing the reporters want to know is if Laura is still with Scotty? That makes little sense, although reporters today often miss the important stories to do stuff like this clip.

Yes, every time somebody new came to town they were made the police Chief and he was never promoted. First it was Robert Scorpio and then Anna. He decided if he wanted to be the Big boss he would do it on the other side of the law .

Oh Laura! :( I cringed when she said that to the reporter. :( When I was 6 I didn't get it back then. I was so frustrated. I wanted them together. Now that I'm 36 it's still frustrating but I get it! I get it! I understand. She is scared. She warned you Luke that she couldn't handle it.

Exactly, The return have NEVER been handled in this way. Over the top directing and staging to have Laura pushed into denying her love for Luke. I have never forgiven TPTB for messing them up and wasting so many months putting them back. It was a joke.

Laura was scared sh- -less when she got bombarded. They should have made some sort of deal to keep it hush until after 'at least' a few days for it all to "come together"......If Luke had been by her side, she would've held up strong. Some kind of wrenches could've been thrown in to make a good story. Although the entire era of this aftermath, right through the SDE, was excellent..... the parting and getting back together.......it's JMO I didn't care for HOW it went down. Luke did awful things to her out of fear & pain, and she forgave every one of them. Him not forgiving her; I had a hard time with. Something with Jennifer, or Scotty & Bobbie, or anything dumb could happen. This reasoning of Luke's I never liked then, and I still don't now......although yes it did work as an excellent another 5-6 months of drama.

Watching my 4th time around in 2023 since 2022, Laura forgave Luke of so much that it never set right with me that he didn’t forgive her, knowing he let go of her hand and what her fears were. Perhaps his insecurity and spiraling pain, just as in later years, would not allow him to go down that rabbit hole of pain again??
