Can you do a short or something with a quick comparison with the MK3i? I think there’s a lot of divers and instructors who are waiting to buy a new computer but just waiting for a comparison since, right now the top end is still the Garmin!
@Paglov5 ай бұрын
@animishlimaye The only downside I see is that there is no integrated Spotify player. You would basically need to carry your phone to listen to the music... That's rather surprising for Suunto considering that a 4 y.o. Garmin Venu for 200 EUR was already equipped with a music player 🙄
@Paglov5 ай бұрын
On a positive side, contrary to the 1800 EUR Garmin Mk3 which is twice the price... this one has an underwater GPS tracker!😊
@skander44295 ай бұрын
Where have you seen about the underwater GPS? I don't think it's physically possible to do a GPS underwater since the radio waves are reflected on the surface of the water and will never reach the watch

@@skander4429 it’s not GPS. It uses all the inbuilt sensors like depth sensor, navigation etc to create a simulated 3D model of the dive route. It’s not 100% gps accurate.

Did 5 dives already with the Suunto Ocean. Man, it is a great dive computer. The screen is very bright and the buttons are very accessible with 3mm gloves. Lots of info available on the screen. You can (obviously) dive air and nitrox, but not trimix. So it is recreational oriented and not really a tec dive computer. But than, that’s not my type of diving. Used to dive with the Suunto Eon Core and had a Garmin Fenix 6 for multi sports. Now I got all in one for half the price of the Garmin decent Mk3. It fills my needs, so……GREAT!!
@utop845 ай бұрын
@@amazingtazz1579 would you be kind confirming a quick point I didn’t find anywhere. It looks like the “dive route” feature is only available after dive and not during it which would be a real game changer. However as I don’t see why it wouldn’t work during the dive (or maybe it needs the GPS coordinate of exit to adjust everything…) I was wondering if you could confirm when it is accessible (during or after only the dive) and it works well 😀 thanks a lot 🙏

Can you compare it with shearwater ?
@phoenixmedia74765 ай бұрын
I’d love to know how it compares to the Shearwater Teric. I know, not the same price… But I’m looking at buying a dive computer for recreational diving. I love the watch form factor. As I already have an Apple Watch Ultra 2 (and no, I’m not going to use it as a “dive computer” as it’s not one… 🤣) that does all my other activities very well, I just want a good, bright computer with all the information on one screen. 😊 I do love the GPS entry and exit point the Suunto tho… 😊 If anyone has any advice, recommendations, please feel free to reply back!! I’m dying to learn more! 😊

Hi! Thank you for the review, do you know if the computer locks after diving '' incidents'' like the D5?
@Pulumainittu6 ай бұрын
As Suunto announced the large layoffs in Finland and relocation of a part of the production to China, this watch might not be built in Finland in future. Also the local maintenance and repair services have been going downhill for some years (doesn't affect necessarily that many people if only local problem).
@leborde6 ай бұрын
Had to deal with the support in my region, and it's very disappointing. They don't have a rental bank, and they take 2 weeks to 1 month just to come back to you telling you what's wrong. Then, you have to fix it. Their MacOS software is crashing all the time, it only enables to log dives and doesn't provide any analytical tool, the user manual isn't clear (had to read it 5 times and still full of mysteries), and overall I feel it's made by engineers for engineers, not by divers for divers. And they always try to put you into this Suunto app that gets everything hosted in China. The BT transfer to the iPhone worked only once over the course of 4 years and 200 dives.

Great review, thanks! How is this ocean compared to the D5 from suunto as a dive computer? Is there anything D5 has/do this ocean doesn’t do/have? Thanks
@ScubaDiverMagazine5 ай бұрын
A big difference is the screen and battery. The Ocean has a much nicer screen and longer battery, almost five times longer in dive mode. For diving, they have different algorithms which can sway some divers. The layout is slightly different and I don't think you can use the compass on the Ocean in dive mode yet. But I don't think there's a lot that the D5 does that the Ocean doesn't...

Does this Suunto Ocean pair with my exisiting tank sender?
@ScubaDiverMagazine3 ай бұрын
It depends which transmitter you already have. Suunto make two different transmitters, one that is simply called a Suunto Transmitter that paired with a range of computers like the D-range and HelO2 computers and another called the Suunto Tank POD that paired with the EON range and D5 computer. The Ocean will only pair with a Tank POD and it should have Tank POD etched into the body so that you can tell the difference.

I have just received my Suunto Ocean. I also have a Huawei Ultimate smartwatch. First big difference Suunto has added smart watch functions in a dive computer where Huawei has done the reverse... They have added a dive computer function to a smart watch. From a technological point of view, Huawei is fantastic for everyday use and Suunto cannot come close. However, the Huawei stopped working on my second dive, which makes it very unreliable. If you want a fancy watch then go for the Huawei and I wish you good luck on your dives. If you want a proper dive computer then get the Suunto which has very limited smartwatch functionality. The build quality of both is good though.

If you skip or miss safety or deco stops does it lock you out, and how long if so?

_From the Ocean Manual:_ Suunto Ocean does not lock after you confirm the algorithm deviation trigger alert. Suunto Ocean continues showing the original decompression plan even if the decompression stop is violated. A red warning will appear in the window and it will stay in the diving window until the required decompression stops are cleared or after 48 hours.

@ScubaDiverMagazine5 ай бұрын
Yes, you don't need to be breathing from scuba for it to constitute a dive. If you think about commercial divers breathing from an umbilical hose they all count as dives. PADI has a nice definition for what constitutes a dive: Anything below 5 metres/15 feet, and breathe at least 1400 litres or 50 cubic feet of compressed gas or remain submerged for at least 20 minutes. In my log book I would just note the breathing system I was using and fill in all of the relevant details.

I've tried it at the Vieux Campeur in Paris with extensive explanation and comparison with the Garmin MK3 series. The Suunto Ocean can be paired with a gas pression probe not the first price Garmin, for 250€ more, you have to add another 400 € for compatibility with the MK3i model without the probe itself. There are some differences in the type of maps used. At my level, the difference of price cannot be justified. The only thing making me hesitate for the Suunto Ocean is the size of the watch, larger than the Garmins. That is fine and even better for diving and undersea visibility. Simplicity of buttons and screens also seem better to me with the Suunto. But wearing a kind of bulky, though not heavy, watch for my slim wrists may not be so great outside of diving. But as a diving watch, it seems unparallelled to me at the price.

@emmaoneill579 transmitter pairing is unreliable. It's losing the signal on a random basis, it's get unpaired for no reason. Me and my wife both had a suunto before - the same story on both. I got a teric after - it have about 70 dives on it, not a single issue with AI, to the point where i removed my SPG completely.
