yes, she played guitar, and not only that, she had gigs alone only with her guitar around 1984, therefore the good guitar arrangements. You can find a concert like that on youtube: Suzanne Vega - Northampton, MA. March 15 1984 ;) I like the band she had, but she is the kind of the artist who is completely fine alone, there is no sense of lack listening her alone. ( this is a sightly different one: Suzanne Vega - live Northampton U.S.A. 17th May 1984 )

From my limited exposure to the folkie scene via an ex-girlfriend, I learned that the price of admission into that crowd as a musician was a pretty good facility with the acoustic guitar (finger picking techniques, alternate tunings, etc.) After that came knowledge of folk songs going back to Woody Guthrie. These people would cross paths at various folk festivals where they'd sit up late into the night around a campfire trading songs. As for this song, I agree -- it's much more generic folkie fare.

Oh wow! This song had totally been off my 📡 meanwhile! Nice one, though! 😍 I'm positive you'll like 'Wooden Horse' better than 'Gypsy' 😉

OK, this will annoy a lot. There's a reason I only bought the first amazing album, because to me after that it all sounds the same. Her voice also became monotone and too samey on everything. My opinion only don't cancel me 😂😮
