You could fill the new oil filter up with oil before putting it back in as well.

I have a 2009 suzuki alto and at the minute it's having a new sump put it cos it had a crack init and had a major oil leak

Oh dear,how did that happen did it hit a kerb. You may have been able to get the sump welded up

@@markrocketmangrimstead I think the it happened before I got it and it just got worse over the couple of years I've had it, just another issue that came with the car that the previous owners neglected to tell me but hey ho I'm a lot more knowledgeable about cars now, I replaced the horn myself when that broke. If I can fix something myself I'll do it but like the clutch and oil sump then it's a case of who you know and my neighbour has a very good mechanic that's fixing it for me. It did pass its mot though (with an oil leak).

@@Dodgystitch excellent yes have a go yourself, but clutch is a big job,my daughters alto is a good car very reliable suzukis in general. But its good to gain knowledge so when you go to a garage they can't pull the wool over your eyes.
