Hi David, I just had a similar problem with my Intruder. I would use the kill switch and the bike would then refuse to start. Thought it was the start button for a while then realised that I had no problem starting if I didnt use the kill switch but turned off with the ignition. I recently stripped down the switch cluster and cleaned up the contacts and spring in the kill switch and the problem has now gone!.. Unfortunately replaced by another one but that's another story! You may of course also have a problem with your earth and the two problems together make it very hard to diagnose. Hope you get it sorted soon. Enjoying the videos, keep up the great work.

Cheers John. Back when I learnt to ride and kill switches new new dangled technology, we were taught not to use them. I’m sure I have an earth problem and once that’s sorted can look at starting. If I were a betting man I’d put money on either start or kill switches. Hope you are doing well. It’s going to be a while before I get to the next meet unfortunately 🙁. Skäl. David

@@MotoMirius I was going through the checking process earlier after I got home from work and as I tested the ignition process, I saw a whiff of smoke come from the starter relay solenoid, i haven't spotted it previously so I'm thinking the problem may now be coming from the solenoid or a wire connection to the solenoid... oh the Joy's of motorcycling, thank goodness we are a patient bunch 😂

Hi,again thanks for your reply, somebody has been messing about with it before I got it, I was able to get a wiring diagram for a 1997 but different colours at the igniter box , like your good self I'll ponder on until I get a '92 wiring diagram, your an inspiration thanks an good 👍luck.
@MotoMirius3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Just remember that wiring is all one wire at a time - from the parts diagram it looks like there were four different wiring harnesses for the 1992 so it might be there were different colours anyway. If you can find the other ends of the wires you should be able to figure out which one is supposed to connect to which terminal, but good luck with that!

Hi David, do you have a wiring diagram? Have you tested the kill switch with the meter? I had the same problem with my old bandit and it was the kill switch earthing out when it shouldn’t be! Worth a delve into mate.

Thanks for that. Yes, I have a wiring diagram and I’ve extracted the starter circuit. But first I have to get power back which I hope is something simple 🤞 Skäl. David

Ok, but have a look at the kill switch, if you ride along and switch it off and on, you will get the loud backfire which you mentioned, my switch kept earthing out and I had the same symptoms you seem to be experiencing. I ended up replacing mine, it was beyond repair. Good luck mate.

Thanks, mmmm, not surprised you are having trouble. I'd imagine that Suzuki would have used a similar harness for the similar models of the same age. Depends what you are looking for - wiring colours would be difficult but the online spares catalogues show pictures of the layout of the wiring harnesses.

Hi Dave, I have a similar symptom with my bandit too (GSF1250 SA from 2007). Intermittently the starter would not budge - draws a massive amount of current (visible because all the lights etc dim down) when the symptom occurs. Most of the time will still restart in a single press of the starter button after 30 minutes or so of being left alone (that is, if I don't drain the battery trying to start - bike electrics get reset as if battery is disconnected if that happens). Have bought a Yaber jump starter battery pack that I carry on my bike due to this. Jump starting gets it to work in a flash. Would still like to get to the bottom of the issue. The problem states after a rectifier was replaced few years ago when Suzuki did a recall. I even changed battery first and then even put in a new starter (expensive!) but the intermittent problem persists. Garage could not find the problem either. Love to know how you solved yours.
@MotoMirius4 жыл бұрын
Mine was a poor earth - the most common of electrical faults, along with dirty contacts in the starter button. Not sure how much they changed the harness but a big weakness with the 1200 harness is that it doesn't have good earth points. Rectifier is part of the charging circuit so that could be an issue - low charge will make it hard to start. I suggest testing the battery for charge, holding charge and for charging. Poor earth could also cause your issue and I'm considering adding another earth point to the frame. Good luck - as you've found electrical issues are elusive and are probably the biggest issue with any bike.
@rickydas4 жыл бұрын
@@MotoMirius the battery charges OK- tested multiple times. Also, after starter non performance (feels like battery is too weak, yet draining many amps during starting attempt) and leaving it be for, say half hour, many times it might start on a single press if the starter button which can't be the case if the battery was indeed too weak. No?
@MotoMirius4 жыл бұрын
@@rickydas Single press on the starter takes very little out of the battery, the question is what happens when the bike doesn't start first press and you push the battery capabilities. A better test might be to kill the engine and try immediately restarting a few times in that scenario - if the battery holds out, you can move on with your fault finding. If the issue was the starter then you'd have the same issue with your jump pack, and the fact that the jump pack can start the bike straight away when the battery has failed to do so points at the battery. Most likely the initial failure leaves the engine with unburnt fuel and the weak battery can't turn the engine over fast enough - but you say you replaced the battery - which points to an issue with charging or draining which won't be an issue with the jump pack.

The issue I had with my starter switch not working was the clutch lever wasn’t getting pulled in far enough. But I’m also having an issue with my bike not starting and I’m not sure if it’s come down to the throttle position sensor but on my dash it says F1. and when I checked the fault codes, it came back C28 and C29. Also, when I turn my signal lights on, I get an alarm sound and I’m not sure if that’s stopping .Also, when I turn my signal lights on, I get an alarm sound.
@MotoMirius7 ай бұрын
If the clutch switch is not working correctly then the bike will not start. This is a common issue and I would ensure that it is fully ruled out before going down the rabbit hole of error codes. But your current issue appears to be related to the alarm - and again, if there is an issue with the alarm then it will prevent the bike from starting -which is what it is designed to do.

Dave, hope you can help, started bike yesterday, neutral light on side stand down, running for about 10 minutes, cuts out, no neutral light on, no power doing nothing till I put side stand up then started straight away, rest of day couldn't get neutral light on and wouldn't start unless I lifted side stand up. Any ideas what the problem is ?
@MotoMirius9 ай бұрын
I would look at the safety switches, possibly the neutral light too. Typically the bike won't start if the side stand is down unless the bike is in neutral or the clutch is pulled in. If the neutral light is not on, the bike might think it's in gear and cut out - because it thinks you will fall off if the side stand is down.
