I had a 1991 DR650 years ago, it was a good bike but it was kick start only. I am planning on getting another good used one this year but one with electric start. Thanks for the video! 👍🏻

The Speedo IS optimistic! On my way home from the dealer’s, my friend in his Triumph 1200 Scrambler cruise controlled the bike at 65mph. I was running 71-72 when I was staying right with him. So, 5-6mph less than indicated. I’m used to that, my 2009 Yamaha Majesty 400 is exactly the same.

Bought a Royal Enfield Himalayan for dirt roads and it handles perfect for those 30 to 50 mph crosswind days... But.. I'm wanting a DR 650 or KLR 650 for faster highway speeds. The Himalayan will do 65 mph but its not a good highway bike and if i hit those headwinds that are 40mph with strong wind gust the bike will only do 45 to 50 mph... Other than that the Royal Enfield Himalayan is a perfect off road bike... Im keeping the bike and now looking to buy either the DR or KLR for those New Mexico winds for dirt and highway travel.

Would you recommend this as a first bike over a drz400 or ktm500?

The Dr650 is a little bit cheaper to buy and work on but is carbureted compared to the other two are injection, which will have a little snappier throttle. Really personal preference.

I think so! It’s very mellowed out from factory so easy to just jump on and take off. If you get a DR650 I would just recommend to let her warm up for a minute before you take off because she’s still an old carbureted girl! Good luck man!
