This guy has the most comprehensive tutorial on the Internet for the Forenza model. Thank you so much for posting these. Definitely much better than taking it to the stupid dealer who will gouge you for money.

I've replaced my Daewoo Nubira's timing belt. It was the first time ever I did it. Before remove the old belt, and to keep the correct timing in the assembly I've aligned the marks in the camshaft gears and painted a mark on it, and also on in the crankshaft pulley. I did the mark in the same position in the belt. When the old belt was removed the camshaft came out of position. I've moved the marks from the old belt to the new one. Then it was just a matter of matching the marks on the belt with the marks on the gears and the pulley. When I applied tension it all came to its proper place. It's a 1.6 engine, but it's very similar. This procedure does not apply when the belt as snapped, of course.

Thank you Pedro for your comment on your method of replacing the timing belt. Always a little different ways to do things.

When you tighten up the bottom crankshaft do you put it back in time or what do you do
@stuzman52
@stuzman52 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean. If you're talking about the crank sprocket bolt, it's keyed so it won't move when you tighten the bolt. Just make sure that the mark on the crank sprocket is aligned when you put the belt on.

The coolant capacity is 7.82 quarts. I would get 2 gallons of 50/50 mix of coolant and you should have a little bit left over.

Hi Rick. Not quite sure and as you know prices vary around the country. My best guess would be around $350 for labor. The timing belt kit runs around $115 and if there is a coolant flush done, that would be a little more. Thanks for the comment on the videos, as I appreciate it.

Did it not make any contact with the valves? Isn't this a interference engine?
@stuzman52
@stuzman52 2 жыл бұрын
Yes Vincent, this is an interference engine and 12 out of 16 valves were bent.

good night I have a forenza 2007 I had a failure with the belt of time, lost teeth and the belt has been changed and the pulleys have been positioned in the respective brands, but it does not start, it will be that I have a more serious problem inside the engine, bent valves, or other type of failure that does not stop a computer crash?
@stuzman52
@stuzman52 7 жыл бұрын
angel hernandez Yes Angel, it’s most likely that you have bent valves in the head which needs to be pulled.😩
@angelito1906
@angelito1906 7 жыл бұрын
that´s very serious and expensive, here probably $900.
@stuzman52

Yes Angel! It's a very serious and expensive repair. For me doing the work on this car shown in the videos, it was still around $800 which is still not cheap. Hope it all works out for you!

Hello again! The mechanic tells me that the time belt broke and that when that happens they bend the valves. In your case. The valves are bent?
@stuzman52
@stuzman52 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, your mechanic is correct that when the timing belt breaks, these engines typically will bend the valves as this is an interference engine. Yes, my timing belt broke, and it bent 12 out of 16 valves. Of course, the head will need to be pulled to repair the valves providing that the valves didn't damage the pistons which could get really expensive if that happens.
@maqjode

Thank you, it only damaged 6 valves, but I will change them all and the timing belt kit and the gaskets.

Hi, My suzuki reno 2006 stop working while I was driving in the freeway. I replace the spark plugs and I saw that they was working. So I check the timing belt and I saw a that the belt was not tied enough. I ordered a new timing belt kit (timing belt tensioner and Idlers). When I remove the timing belt cover I found that one of the idlers (the one close to the tensioner) was damaged, so the problem was that the belt maybe jump due of the wrong presure of the idler and that's why the engine stopped. I replaced everything acording with the steps that you share but when I try to start the engine, the engine desn't work. Any Idea? Thanks!
@stuzman52
@stuzman52 8 жыл бұрын
When that idler got damaged, this would cause the belt to jump which would throw the engine out of time. It's a very good chance that you've got bent valves now. Take a look at the second video of this series to see if your valves are bent.

Great stuff. Very detailed and informative. Question, how long did it take you in real time. And how long should it take for an average joe, on a first time. Also do you ever come to Dallas Texas? Thanks a million.
@stuzman52

+Fernando Rodriguez Thanks Fernando. Seems like it took about a weekend to pull it all down and another weekend to put it back. And I was taking my time too. How long for an average Joe for the first time? Really depends on how mechanically inclined one is. Probably the same amount of time if they're used to doing a fair amount of wrenching. Never been to Texas and you're welcomed...

Thanks. Also since. I've called a mechanic. He tells me he charged me 240 parts and labor which I am okay with that. But then he adds that the valves might gotten damaged when the belt broke off. Then he would need to take break out the head of the engine to change out the valves. Question, does this could've happened or the belt damaged the valves and now need to replace the valves. He said that all that would cost me 800$. Does that sound right to you. Please help. Thanks.
@stuzman52
@stuzman52 9 жыл бұрын
+Fernando Rodriguez Hi Fernando. When the timing belt breaks, you can pretty much bet that the valves will get damaged along with maybe valve guides and worse yet, it could damage pistons if the engine is running very fast when the belt breaks. The price sounds very reasonable as it cost me about $800 for all the parts and machine work, and I did the work myself. You're welcomed!

What is the idle learn procedure for a straight drive?
@stuzman52
@stuzman52 8 жыл бұрын
Pretty much the same, start the engine and let it idle in neutral. Bring it up to temperature and turn on the AC to load the engine. Also you can load the engine by turning on accessories which will increase the load on the alternator which will load the engine. It shouldn't take but a few minutes for the computer to learn the unloaded and loaded conditions of the engine to learn the new idle speeds.

Hello, my Suzuki Reno 2007 i have a code P0340 Camshaft sensor position circuit "A". It could be due to problems with the tensioner or timing belt?
@stuzman52
@stuzman52 7 жыл бұрын
maqjode yes it could be where the timing is slightly off or it could be that you actually have a camshaft sensor problem. If you got a scope put it on there take a look at the signal and while you're at it take a look at the crankshaft position sensor and you can see the correlation between those two sensors.
