Thank you, exactly what I was looking for since a quiet exhaust is important to me. Surprised to see best overall comparative gains stage 1 to stage 2 came with the stock exhaust!

That is pretty impressive-- filter lid flash stock exhaust-- so looking at numerous videos adding a full exhaust adds 6hp max.. and 1lb tq..versus this tune--90 hp MAX-The stacks seems to rob midrange to add top end not really worth the fight over 1hp-- price full exhaust around a thousand bucks...... Hope to be picking one of these gsx 8r up in a few months.. Think the lid and flash is the ticket for me. GREAT WORK !!

I saw you had an MT07 behind the 8S. Is the 8S with a full pipe louder than the MT or is is there not really much in it? Really good vids btw, nice to know you can get MT-09 kind of torque with a few mods
@vcyclenut

not to much in it, once we get to spring me and a friend are going to do a whole comparison video between my modded Mt07 and my modded GSX8. Ill make sure to take note of this when riding them back to back

That should be interesting! 8S obviously makes more power and the people I've seen who've tried both usually comment the 8S feels a lot more powerful but it also weighs 40 lbs more giving both bikes a very similar power to weight ratio (with stock motors anyway). @@vcyclenut

But the TST one is only $200 and it's a full kit with velocity stacks and the lid. It's only $450 if you get a tune with it.

Even though you kept stock exhaust did the tune/airbox increase the sound?

Yes

So I am looking for more sound and don’t want to spend the money on a full exhaust. I was thinking about doing the open air box lid and filter as my only mod. Would that require an ecu flash? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Not 100% needed but highly recommended. If you are dead set against the flash I recommend just doing the stage 1 AB mod

Hello i have the V-strom 800 DE with Yoshimura slip on rs-12 adv i dont have flash but when i compare stage 1 airfilter with stage 2 it is louder but it feels slower i feel like i am loosing power is this normal ? do i need the flash to see deference ? thnx in advance ! @vcyclenut
@vcyclenut
@vcyclenut 10 күн бұрын
yes, the flash will fix that. The stage 2 lid with no tuning leans out the bike in many areas during part throttle and full throttle and lessens the power

Would a reflash be 100% necessary? I have a 800de and just bought dna filter and open box housing. Also a new Diablo slip on muffler from Fuel Exhausts out of uk coming. But I’m down New Zealand, so sending ecu for a reflash takes time and money. Hopefully the stock ecu can handle more air and better flowing muffler with stock mapping?
@vcyclenut
@vcyclenut 6 ай бұрын
it may be ok with the slip on but the stage 2 ab lid requires big fuel corrections to run properly.

@@vcyclenut Thanks! From what I've seen on other dyno traces, the VS remove a bit of middle power and push it toward the top, but those traces have a much flatter top rev compared to your testing, which is more rounded.
@vcyclenut
@vcyclenut 6 ай бұрын
@lifted_above that is correct, IMO the stacks are not worth it on this platform unless your tracking the bike yes, I have the best area under the curve and am crushing the other tuners on top end with the stock ecu from what ive seen the only time I had runs where the peak power moved that early in the rpm and I had a flat top end was when I removed the filter and air box lid completely. Which is useless really, I just did it to see if there are potentially more gains in the airbox inlet area

Wondering if anyone can comment on how flash with stage 2 and stock exhaust would affect mpg. The range is not great on these bikes and I'm concerned about reducing even more since I do longer rides. Previous had a ninja 650 with yoshi and ecu flash and mpg dropped by 7-8 mpg after flash. It was worth it for that bike but not sure on this one. Also had a fz07 with stock exhaust and ecu flash and don't remember a significant mpg change. Any insights appreciated.
@vcyclenut
@vcyclenut 7 ай бұрын
the way I tune with road tuning included ends in a bike that is still pretty damn efficient. I would stick with the stage 1 and flash if you are concerned with fuel mileage. I think you will be surprised and not see a reduction from stock
@kellyalmanzar6023
@kellyalmanzar6023 7 ай бұрын
Thanks, definitely next mod. Would stage 2 be close to stock? Just don't want to lose 7-8 mpg, wouldn't mind losing a little for the gains and I've read good tunes can actually increase mpg. Suspect I had a bad tune of last time. Thanks
@exothermal.sprocket
@exothermal.sprocket 6 ай бұрын
@@kellyalmanzar6023 I would guess the problem was a rotten tune gave you that. Believe me, there are shops who have HORRIBLE tunes. You MUST do your research. 2wdw has demonstrated on video how rotten a tune job some shops do, by showing the computer results of flashes people send to them to fix. I used to have an FZ1 that gained something like 28 peak HP with a flash. Driving it like I did before the changes, the MPG was exactly the same. Sure, you can suck down the gas if you're ripping the loud handle all the time, but if you ride it the same, chances are the tuned bike is operating more efficiency ON AVERAGE than the factory setting, if the tuner has done their job properly and obsessed over mapping for part throttle, all the modes, ignition maps, did tuning out on the road instead of a half dozen dyno runs, and the rest. It's not like a 776cc twin is going to eat gas like a Chevy 454 V8. You should have better range than an MT-09 which has the same fuel capacity. The Ninja 650 has a slightly larger tank.
