How to remove the carburettors of a Suzuki Intruder VS1400.
A lot of people, including myself, become intimidated when touching the carburetors on any motorcycle engine, but with the correct approach and workshop service manual for your specific bike, it really is not as scary as you may think. Take your time and don't force anything.

This is the biggest project I have taken on, The bike will be completely stripped down to the frame, the engine will be removed for new piston rings to be installed, the wiring harness is going to be rewired and the entire bike overhauled, ready for spring 2020....I hope.

Is there any sign of life at all from the bike? Is the starter motor spinning?
@matt92272

Oh ya, it sounds great, everything turns over. Just wouldn’t start, I pulled the plug out and grounded it on the frame like I’ve seen in other videos. While I cranked it, there was no spark. I did see your video where you are taking all the electrical apart, so that helped to know what’s what. Fuses are good, battery is charged.

@@matt92272 this sounds silly but I've overlooked this a few times myself. 1. Is the cdi box connected? Usually housed under the seat. Is the kick stand up or down? There is a kill switch on the kick stand, sometimes they play havoc with the bike. Best to sit on the bike, kick stand up, hold clutch in then try and start.
@matt92272
@matt92272 3 жыл бұрын
Awesome, I will try this out. I figured there were simple places to start, just didn’t know where yet, thanks! Not sure on the box, but the kickstand was down.

The VS1400 has 2 carbs which requires a throttle linkage which can be found right above the front airbox. In order to remove the carbs you DO NOT need a special modified spanner (wrench here in the US) to remove them. Simply remove the throttle cable from the start stop/start switch to allow some slack in the cable, open the throttle cable linkage above the front airbox and then disconnect the lower throttle cables going to each carb. After removing the choke cables, fuel lines and air boots, take the carbs off the bike and then remove the lower throttle cables off the carbs at the bench if need be.

It's interesting how you explain the processes and problems as if you're speaking to complete amateurs. It's actually quite refreshing. Too many videos tend to gloss over certain things, falsely assuming the viewer already has a certain level of knowledge about the subject at hand. They don't consider that if we did, we probably wouldn't be watching their video. One point in particular is your thorough explanation of the sync cable. I probably would have simply taken it off without thinking it through first. Much appreciated! I assume the reinstallation and adjustment of that cable will come with the carb reinstall video? I do have the factory issue manual. Mine looks a bit bigger for some reason. I almost had a coronary when I ordered it, and it was $105, but as you say, it is an absolute wealth of information. With that and your videos, how can I fail? Or, as one of my techs always says, "What can possibly go wrong?" Oh, the list is long....
4 жыл бұрын
It has always been a pattern I've seen in any sort if how to video that people dont explain the bits that I need the information for and just gloss it, I want everyone to feel as though they can wrench on their bikes with just a bit of planning and following simple steps, a friend if mine who is a legit professional mechanic once told me, the description if a mechanic is someone who has the confidence to undo bolts and put them back in. The more I do myself, the more I believe him lol.

After reinstalling the carbs. and not messing with the sync. cable, it doesn't seem to move when you open the throttle. It would seem like it would, but I just don't know the interplay between the carbs. their primary cable and the sync. cable. Thanks
3 жыл бұрын
If you have removed the carbs, they will need to by resynced once installed as the syncing process includes the throttle cables and the idle cable. The idle cable does not move when pulling thr throttle, its job is to raid the rear carbs idle rpm by increasing the height of the throttle lever.

Hi Hagar, Thank you for all yours videos. Are the front and rear diaphrams iguals? They get differents oem part numbers but seems to be the same item with the same size.
2 жыл бұрын
Great question. Technically they are the same HOWEVER, it all comes down to the placement of the diaphrams locating jet hole in correspondence to the slide. In the top of the carbs where they are seated, you'll see 2 little jets in the ridge, these are different on each carb. Be sure to check that when you install them they line up and that the slides are correctly orientated in the venturi of the carb and not facing the wrong way
