Apologies if anyone has already pointed that out but lift kits do not give you clearance, bigger tires give you clearance because the car is sitting on the axels with the differentials the lowest points. Otherwise, great vid man! I love my Jimny too lol

That's a very narrow scope you're looking through... Lift kits won't give you axle clearance, but they do increase the clearance of every other component. Your radius joints, your radiator, transmission, fuel tank, doorsteps, exhaust. It gives you better approach departure and break-over angles. But no, it won't lift your axles up higher off the ground.

Yes you are 100% right. When talking I'm referring to 'the lift' as the full exercise I undertook in one go with modifications (including larger tires) but the way I've edited it doesn't make that awfully clear. A good learning for me for future videos :-)

@thehardshift
@thehardshift 8 ай бұрын
Hey mate, thanks and yes still happy. No new mods. The car still gets used as a road car first and foremost. I feel I'm at the point where doing anything more would make it a better off-road car and worse road car. If you're buying a demo you could try negotiate for them to cover the first annual service. They change the diff oil so it's a bit pricey.

Great video full of info. I have looked at heaps of lift kits, a lot say get extendable brake lines extendable this extendable that bracket for the light beam, across bar extension to lift the diff etc. Do all these kiys come with this stuff or is it extras on top of extras? Thanks
@thehardshift
@thehardshift Жыл бұрын
I took the easy option and the shop that installed it did the extended break lines and headlights sensor kit. They included it all in one price as a package. I'm not sure about buying a kit as such. I know I didn't lift the dif. I find the dif scrapes occasionally while off-roading, I do have dif covers front and back to help protect though. Hope that helps!

@@thehardshift are you happy with your tire size, as in height. Has it ever hit the guards? I am looking at getting tires and lift done at the same time. Might save some coin that way. I do like your idea of keeping the stock rims. Cheers
@thehardshift
@thehardshift Жыл бұрын
Very happy with the tire size. Height feels about where it should be for a car that is used for commuting and the occasional off-roading. Never hit the guards. I think any larger and you'd lose too much on road drivability with fuel economy and power. You'll need a wheel alignment after changing the suspension so it makes sense to do tires at the same time.

Hey mate, I got mine done at Motortech in Glenfield. They were good to deal with. Cost about $3k inc gst last year. It's not just the suspension install, they have to put in a new head light sensor, extend break lines, etc. Tires was extra. They will do a wheel alignment too so best to decide on new wheels and tires before, or buy from them at the same time. Hope that helps :-)

did the lift kit and wider wheels help with the car getting blown around by the wind on the freeway? It's the only thing turning me off buying one of these!
@thehardshift
@thehardshift Жыл бұрын
The car still gets blown around. I'd say it's slightly better at recovering from it. It's still a box that doesn't weigh a whole lot at the end of the day. I've seen posts from others online saying they've added weight to the rear to help it but it'll hurt your fuel economy. In saying that, there's probably only been a handful of times I've had to slow down under 100km. I just hold on tight and blast through it.
