I CONDEMMNTHIS VIDEO! There I was yesterday in the middle of the desert 42° temperature and no shade with my Jimny and a broken alternator belt. My phone hat 11% battery left and I had problems to fit the drive belt because it was a bit too short. All I had where a set of cheap Chinese spanners which where way too short and I was running low on water since I needed some for the radiator to refill. PLEASE MARK YOUR VIDEOS CLEARLY AS SATIRE THE NEXT TIME. Thank you!

Used this video to refresh myself in changing my fan belt as they keep getting chewed up! I suspect that its the water pump pulley as it looks warped and distorted. FYI you only need to undo the top two bolts for the alternator, and use a breaker bar to push it down to release the tension from the belt, and vice versa. for the M13A (both VVT and Non) the torque are as follows: Power steering belt tensioner (both nut and bolt) 25nm, Alternator Bolt - 25nm and Alternator adjuster bolt is 50nm. I couldn't find these on line that easy!

Thanks for subscribing. Much appreciated. One of the main reasons we do this is, like you said, there isn't much useful video out there. We couldn't find what we needed so we made it ourselves. Luckily it's getting some good feedback from the KZbin community. What's the next task on your Jimny?

@@MechitBetter I've got a big list :D. The priorities are replacing the squeaking belts and replacing the brake pads. After that, I'm gonna remove the rear seats completely (I'll be using that video of yours on it) and DIY-ing a removable trunk (removable so I can put the rear seats back if needed without much of a hassle.) After that, some seat reupholster. If you guys have a social media page (facebook, instagram), I can send you pictures of what I've done once any project is complete :D Thanks again for the content, it's much appreciated.

Sounds like a cool plan. Its a similar thing i had in mind but havent set my mind to it yet. The video we did for the kingpin/dust seal should have some useful bits on removing the brake pads. I did mess up a bit on the seat removal one as it was in portrait but all the right detail is there, i think. We have an instagram (@mechitbetter) and, only very recently, a facebook page. Would be interesting to see what you get done and maybe it can help others too so please do show us any progress. Not sure what I'll attempt next... Maybe power steering fluid change or rear drum inspection 🤔

My old Suzuki Jimny has been squealing for a few years, two different garages have change the belts.. it still squeals ...LOUDLY 😳 Mostly in damp and cold weather .... Hmmm 🤔...after watching this video I’m certain it’s the pulleys that need replacing... Thanks for giving me some insight to my Jimny Squealing ... Luv the video... and the percussion performance 😄
@MechitBetter
@MechitBetter 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind review of our mechanical tunes 😉 Shame to hear that you still have a squeal after 2 attempts at getting it sorted... Always frustrating paying money for no improvement. If you're confident its not the belts then yeah, there is a possibility it might be something to do with the tensioner. Im just guessing but that probably has some kind of bearings that might have worn out, causing the noise. No guarantee though. If belt tension is set too high, it might cause some wear in the alternator or powersteering pump and that make a noise. Is it constant or does if stop once the engine has warmed up? As ever we're no experts, in any regard, just 2 guys giving it a whirl and sharing our results.

Mech it Better... it’s hit and miss, it’s as though it’s doing it on purpose just to irritate me at times, I can start my car and drive half a mile without any squealing and then as I’m slowing down turning a corner or stopping to turn left or right it decides to squeal loudly, and then suddenly it stops and then its fine for a while. I have since bought some belt spray stuff which I thought had worked...but it still squeals on and off... I’m thinking I need to take it to a different garage and explain what you’ve suggested to the mechanic... but Hey ho, old Suzuki Jiminy doesn’t owe me any favours really, it’s 20 years old and still gets through its MOT without problems... I’m quite lucky really but I just wish it would stop squealing so loudly ...people can hear me coming a mile away 😐

earlier today my water pump, alternator belt broke off while idling. all top nuts are size 12 and the one allen key below the alternator is a size 8 allen key. need a socket adapter for the allenkey to get it to torque ( i used an L wrench first which bent hahahah). Btw this helps, especially the bolts retaining the radiator. as i have large hands hahahahha cheers!!

I've been having the same squeaky sound. Replaced belts twice in 4 days😭😭 My mechanic said it's the tensioner and I need to replace it. After watching my question is does the belt sizes matter? Does the belt need to be a little loose? He used 4PK840 where the alternator is and it snapped twice.

Three years late responding to this but... The radiator cowl can be easily removed by undoing 4 bolts. 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom. In a moment of anger I did also consider chopping it (lol).

Hi there. Thanks for the video! I'm having a little trouble locating the "8mm hex head" bolt under the alternator? Any ideas?
@MechitBetter
@MechitBetter 3 жыл бұрын
Ah... I see we may have caused some confusion. Just watched it again myself to double check. The bolt in question is not a hex head. It requires a hex bit (or Allen key) to remove it. I remember it wasn't the most obvious bolt to find but it is tucked away down there. Does that help at all?
@Painterinahurry
@Painterinahurry 3 жыл бұрын
Ah yes! That did it. 8mm hex head did it. I added a bit of leverage using a deep socket and that did the trick.

@@MechitBetter More or less! My jimny has 3 pulleys and 1 tensioner pulley which means I needed a slightly larger power steering belt (4pk950 rather than 4pk850). I'll also have to go back in and tighten everything down a bit more. Can still hear them squealy noises 🥴

I decided to remove the radiator as I was unable to undo the nut on the steering pump belt tensioner......I had to cut it off in the end, even a tommy bar failed to shift it .....easier to do the belts with the radiator out of the way 😁

Mechanic of over 15 years.... Suzuki strikes again. That is one of the most poorly engineered tensioners I've come across in an engine bay with plenty of room for a norman tensioner. Literally so much room at the power steering pump for a tensioner setup the same as the alt belt. Holy shit I hate Suzuki's turdbox's.
