@@SimsonBoyRW2 Try the Netherlands! My hilux was 26K eur without taxes. As commercial drive that's ok and wil end up at 41K eur. as a consumer however you'd see the 80K range. Bet you the troopy is atleast that.... if at all possible. Jimney is available from € 26.155 including all taxes. Not sure what the troopy would do, but as a private person I'd get 3 Jimney's and 1 X1 from Patriot Campers Australia Ah @david collins might as well be in the Netherlands,EU :P by the way, as I do own a business I'm happy with my 2015 Vigo Hilux DC with a Rhino Evolution bar and custom (polish) rock sliders.

Got my 2019 Jimny 3 weeks ago - love it. All seats fold flat so one can sleep in it. Ran it at highway speed - well planted, smooth & quiet for this type of vehicle. Fuel consumption - 6.4L/100 for manual, 6.9 for auto. Wading depth is in the handbook, but I forget. Extra 12v outlet at rear for my fridge.

@@WatchmakersApprentice I prefer 100. That's 3000 rpm with the auto. 110 would be a little noisier but quite achievable. Saw a youtube of a guy in Spain doing 130 on the highway. Overtaking at highway speed would need to be carefully considered. Acceleration is not so great.

Small 4x4's are a lot of fun. Can go places the bigger units can't fit through. But the little ones can't carry much unless they have a tray version. My Daihatsu F25 was a hoot. The new Jimny has a lot of those positives. A longer wheelbase version would be good.

Some more focused off road tyres, a roof rack, a winch, a light bar and snorkle kit would make the jimny a perfect outback explorer. Only thing that would be an obstacle for some is the lack of space so you would have to pack light.

Fun v Functional, good analogy. Plus, made for different purposes... so right again. Only point I'd make is the Troopy is too top heavy, saw a bunch of them on their side in Africa in some pretty tough conditions. My OCD at the Troopy's reverse staggered front n rear track... though I love 78 series LC's coz I used to work with them. The steering response that feels like you're ruddering a concrete barge with a paper plate, the turning circle that orbits the sun, agricultural gearbox from a tractor, the cascading waterfall of water that saturates you when you open the door after a downpour, the doors you have to slam so hard to shut they should come with a 'may dent door in process' sticker - these things are BEAST & utilitarian alternate fun lol Still, I'll take the Jimny & buy overseas holidays + a Toyota 86 with the spare change to a Troopy.

Having owned an Africa spec , non power steering 1hz 80series (1992) I would add 2 doors and minus two digits from the 78 , yes I would take a 76 all day long . The Jimney is a nimble weekend toy , as soon as you are eating 700km+ in a sitting without stopping for feul , the Jimny is out . I currently have a tdv8 Range Rover and just the other day I did 1327km on 105l of feul . Thats right , I was behind the wheel for 13 hours . I have done similar trips in the 80 series too . I would have been stranded before the next feul stop in the Jimny , if you're a city slicker who wants to go play in the dirt , the Jimny is your car . If you want and need a dedicated long distance offroader , the Land Cruiser will not let you down .

Protip from a jimny owner, go straight to 10psi off road. They're so light the low pressure doesn't do any damage, it gives you more traction and most importantly, you don't need a spine reconstruction after a day's off roading ;) Also, not sure what on road pressures you were running but around 26-28 is a great balance between ride, handling and tyre wear. Great video :)

Great comparison I reckon. Both of these vehicles are based on very old design, rock solid, and ultra reliable. They’ve both solidified themselves as awesome 4x4’s over a very long period of time and represent something for all budgets. I can’t think of any other 4x4’s that have been on the market for so long with the same basic design. If your in the middle of the bush, simplicity wins for me. Some basic upgrades like a 2” lift, snorkel, and bullbar would be great, although for an occasional weekend warrior there both fine. Great journalism 👍

I like the Jimny and would have one in a heart beat but the Troopy has the Load Space which is a concern because most of us own a 12v Fridge or Two, Yes they would fit in the Jimny with the seats down but then you would need a light trailer for the rest of your gear which is not a problem. The Troopy wins out due to the shear Load Space otherwise I'd have the Jimny.

I own a 2001 pristine Suzuki Samurai as a daily driver, and I love it. I just came back from a 3weeks 4x4 round trip in Namibia with a 2014 stock toyota Hilux. Sorry, but nothing beats Toyota 4x4s : my Suzuki would have died 3 times during my holidays, and the toyota held up very good, even after 20 kilometers of big dry river stones at 20km/h - I like the Jimny .. but well.. he loses generation after generation his ruggedness. This year they thrown the temp gauge. This same temp gauge that told me that my radiator was rusting from inside and saved my Samurai engine.

Choosing between the two would really be a life and death situation.but putting myself in one ....I would most definitely choose and recommend the Toyota . On the latter ,the jimny is good ,but it's not a Toyota Land cruiser . How many wars have the jimny been in....In Africa ....you can't start a war without a Land cruiser

George Newell badly?? 3 star rating with really high % of protection to the driver and passagers?? have you seen the new wrangler with just 1 star? and the most important, did you noticed "the reason" why jimny & wrangler got those low ratings?? (well, the wrangler got medium % in passegers protection, but jimnys are pretty high) not becauee they're unsafe, not because they crash badly.... because the lack of "electronic nannies" standarized in other cars!!!! that's their problem!! when you make one of these you wanna "keep it simple" take a look at the webpage of euroncap, and you will see a lot of red dots in the "equipment" section

I owned a Troopy & so loved much about it. What I didn't like and could not understand is how the hell Toyota could sell a vehicle that a handbrake that just would not hold on a steep hill. Eventually fixed with after market at Brakepoint & after serious dollars and much frustration. Apparently the handbrake is a real issue with Toyota 70 & 80 series. Why???

I think the trooper is no more, its no longer on Toyotas site. Also why would you take the trooper over a Parado GXL which is 10k cheaper or spend about 3 or 4k more to get a VX with all the trimmings? Same brand, same reliability and I would assume the Parado is no less capable

Landcruiser made its name being reliably More than I can say for Suzuki cars, A old mk1 discovery can do what the landcruiser is doing but I wouldn't want a land rover, Toyota landcruiser 4.2 all the way you cant go wrong. Stay away from d4d they are troublesome.
