When you flush your engine, do you use the muffs and run it till the thermostat opens? Usually you have to run it for a minimum of 7 minutes so the complete system can be flushed out and no sediments will remain. You can also clean your anodes every two weeks with the conditions you experience in your area. If you only do a side flush when the engine is off, it will not completely flush because the thermostat will be closed and saltwater will be trapped in the inner chambers along with sediments. So always spent the extra time to flush using the muffs and the engine running for at least 20 minutes or till the thermostat opens and you give it enough time for the complete system to flush out. This way you can save on your engine and replacing anodes often. Also be sure to check your fuel filter and drain any water from the separator bowl that may have collected after you make a trip. At the back of the engine, there is a separator as well where the pump is located. There is a drain plug for draining excess water, open and drain as well. Lastly, monitor your oil level. If it is higher than it should be, you may have unburnt fuel getting into the engine oil. This must be drained and replaced if needed. With Suzuki engines, when trolling, this can happen with the bigger engines when the fuel is not burning off fast enough with the four strokes.

Was going for a Yamaha but then the dealer told me to get a suzuki,he said its just as good of an engine if not better but it is easy to service and fix also has chain not belt so you dont need to worry about it. I used to have vw cars then got a toyota rav4 and man the toyota is so well designed you can change stuff you have space to work and so on,on the vw i had to unscrew 100 things to change a light bulb or something like that so I think I get a suzuki and make my life easy.

Hi Captain Dave, first off thank you so much for your videos as I am learning a lot for them regarding an outboard motor and most of all a Suzuki Outboard! I currently have a 2019 Suzuki DF250 which I purchased in July 2019 and I'm wondering how many minutes you flush the motor after each use. I live in Dana Point, CA which is in Southern California and I store my boat on the trailer in Dana Point Harbor. I use the public wash stations down at the harbor and flush my motor out right after each time my boat enters the ocean. I live in an apartment complex in Dana Point and don't have the capability to bring my boat home and use the water from my hose at home. I normally use my earmuffs when flushing and run my motor for about 5 minutes and then switch to the flushing port on the steering arm side above my motor for about 3 minutes of course with the motor not running. I would love to get your advice on the best ways to flush an outboard motor considering the circumstances that I have. How many minutes would you recommend flushing with the motor running after I get out of the water. Do you recommend a flushing bag? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again! Chris
@CaptDavesSportfishing
@CaptDavesSportfishing 4 жыл бұрын
THE 250's have them damn low water pick up's, so using the muffs on it IS a pain cause you have to tape over them, which isn't good. I guess you are doing that. I don't use flush ports cause I'm in a MUD/dirt nasty river!! Always as long as it takes to get up to over t-stat temp.

Hey Capt Dave, thank you for these videos, i was wondering, u said in an earlier vid about an anode in the very bottom of the lower unit, under the water intake screen, how do u get the screen off?? Another thing, are u aware of an anode that u have to pull the prop off, a small round anode, under the prop???
@CaptDavesSportfishing

in the bottom intake, unscrew the screws. and have a ball of fun taking the lower cowling off ''aka: chaps''. there's on there, for the oil pan. mine has 8 total. then getting that lower cowling back on is the super fun part, it's a engineering disaster! big motors don't have prop anodes.
