Wes visited our special education class in 1981. He spoke to us about following our dreams and never giving up. We watched this film and later were all given Suzuki t-shirts and stickers autographed by Wes. What I mostly remember about that day wad how friendly he was. He didn't just show up, sign some autographs and leave, but he actually stayed for a few hours and shared story after story with the students. Class act.

This is the golden era of road course motorcycle racing for me. Nothing since sounds like the engines from this time. Absolutely beautiful.

That Wes Suzuki with the chin spoiler in the mini fairing was a great looking bike. It's funny, announcer Dave Despain looks like a guy I used to buy pot from. Great video -Thanks !

Strange to watch Wes Cooley racing a Honda Bol Dor 900 in the 1979 Castrol Six hour in Australia & there were Blue/white Susuki GS1000’s in the event racing against him . The worlds biggest production race in its time .. can watch on ‘Motorcycle racing 1979 Castrol 6 Hour’

I find it amazing that the front end is so stable on the old bikes. In the video it looks like Woolley is on a trailer, the handlebars don’t move at all.
@RickyJr463 жыл бұрын
A great deal of effort went into making production bikes so raceworthy, especially these front-running machines. As the best riders reached the limits their teams worked hard to rectify those problems. The really unstable and scary looking bikes were further back in the field, some of them were pretty terrifying to watch.

Interesting..., I presume since the Suzuki bike came with a fairing in stock form, it was allowed in competition. For racing at Daytona, it seems a huge advantage to have it.
@DavidBigelow6 жыл бұрын
It only came on the Wes Cooley Replica. The regular GS1000 didn't have it. So, I assume Team Yoshimura added it, and then Suzuki put it on the replica.

The Wes Cooley Yoshi bike was a based on a regular C or N model and modified for superbike. The team added the GS1000 SN bikini fairing for effect. The regular instrument pod seen on the bike indicates it did not use the large one piece SN instrument assembly. Having raced the SN model the fairing did help with high speed wind force. Great footage of Pops Yoshimura and team. Here in Australia some years before, Croz was well known for his wheelies on the Moriwaki Kawasaki. Croz also raced the XR 69 endurance bike in Britain and Europe. Great video !

don't get it. In 81 Suzuki still race 8 valve head? They already had the 16 valves...even I already had a 16 valve GS1100E in 80. Spencer's CB had 16 valves. That's at least another 500 rpm and 10/15 hp.
