Anything older than 2010 that doesn't have the "A" designation after the engine number, you are wasting your time. TROLL MODE can cost you anywhere between $2 (yes $2) and $90 in parts, and about 30 minutes of DIY work. Step 1: disconnect/uncap the connector with the White with Yellow and Black wire pair. The W/Y wire normally goes to the TRIM METER which is OPTIONAL. If you don't have a TRIM METER don't worry about the W/Y, it has NOTHING to do TROLL MODE. My boat had this connector waaaay in the back by the outboard, not in the console, possibly because my boat was re-powered before I bought it. Step 2: Plug in the White with Yellow and Violet wire pair FROM the TROLL MODE SWITCH to the connector from Step 1. The VIOLET (to ECU BLACK) wire is what controls the ECU, and the only wire that "talks" to the ECU in any way. Take the cap you just removed and place it on the bare end of the remaining connector if you have one. Step 3. Plug in the Gray wire from the TROLL MODE SWITCH to the existing Gray connector. This is simply a POS + connection on a 10AMP fuse from the 12V system, and you can wire it that way too, or tap into the gray wire which powers the illumination of the TACHOMETER. (or any 12V + wire you got back there that's on when the engine is running) Step 4. Plug in the Black wire from the TROLL MODE SWITCH to the existing single Black connector like the video. This is simply a NEG - connection from the 12V system, and you can wire it that way too, or tap into the Black wire leading to the TACHOMETER. Do not get confused with the ECU Black wire which is on the engine side of the connector paired to the W/Y wire, not that you would. You do NOT need the special advanced SUZUKI gauge, just pretend the values are on a different scale going up by 50RPM each time you increase the troll speed. You activate it by being in gear at idle and holding + troll speed. You deactivate it by using the throttle lever going to Neutral or Higher than 3000 RPM. You can put thin slivers of white tape on your gauge to mark the range of TROLL MODE like me. I was able to find my switch brand new on eBay for $35 shipped, but new ones can be had for $85 USD. Look up wiring diagrams on Page 76 of https:(delete this text)//manualzz.com/doc/54992370/ If you want to save money, don't spend $85 USD+ on the part!!!!!! You can activate TROLL MODE for less than $5. Get an (ON)/OFF/(ON) "MOMENTARY" (not latching) type 3 prong switch, $2 each on Amazon. Wire your boat's 12V pos and neg to the respective outer prongs (16 to 20 GA wire is fine) and tap the skinny BLACK ECU / VIOLET harness wire to the center prong. This aftermarket switch will be smaller, more discreet, and less destructive to install on your boat's dash. No need to cut a 2 1/16" hole. Alternatively you can use two separate double prong momentary switches/pushbuttons, one gets wired to POS and the other to NEG, with both being wired to the VIOLET signal wire. This way one button will beep up, the other beeps down. These types of DC switches can be found for FREE in junk cars, machinery, computers, etc, and look way better than the OEM Suzuki unit IMHO. You can install this DIY setup in less than 30 minutes, and it's VERY EASY. Try it before hiring an expensive technician! If you want to control TROLL MODE from multiple locations in the boat, this is also a perfect way to add that feature just by tapping into the same wires with another switch! If you're REALLY handy (or nerdy) and have 10 extra minutes, you can buy a $10 2CH DC remote relay set to "momentary" function, with an A and B button on a remote, and tap into the switch wires, and now you basically have a poor man's remote throttle! With my GARMIN reactor 40 autopilot, this lets me troll for salmon alone without ever having to go to my center console while I'm fishing. For $12 and 40 minutes of easy work, you have added hundreds of dollars worth of capability to your boat.
