Today, on the east coast of the USA (where I am) it's minus 4 centigrade with winds over 40 mph. The west coast has winds of 90 mph fanning the wild fires in Los Angeles. I'm watching this video thinking, "Why am I here and not over there?" You are living the dream. Just arrived back in Victoria 🇨🇦 from a week with Canary Motorcycle Tours. Had a great time! Thanks to Martin, Joy and Jose! Martin seems to have bought up a number of new V-Strom 650's while they are still available. The low down torque of the V-twin works well on the Gran Canaria roads. Also spent some time on the blue 800. Not sure if you tried the different riding modes but I found that, unlike in some cases, they definitely make a difference. Really impressed. Even in the week around Christmas and New Year the temperatures were around 20C... Ideal biking weather. Admittedly, quite a long trip from Western Canada but for those living in the UK, Ireland etc. its a quick EasyJet flight away. I've got to thank you, usernamekate and teapot one for the videos... Wouldn't have known about riding in Gran Canaria without them!

Morning Andy, I lived in Nerja on the Costa del Sol for a year back in 2007 and regularly rode on the N340 coastal road which was the second worst road for motorcycle deaths in Spain. It wasn’t a dangerous road, it just had a lot of bends and unfortunately lots of sports bike riders would ride like lunatics along it which was the reason it had so many deaths. I was riding it on either a 125 scooter or my Harley 883 Sportster flat tracker replica and it was perfectly safe as far as I was concerned. I could do with some Canary sun though and some pleasant Spanish roads right now, but family circumstances mean I’ll probably have to wait for it to get a bit better weather wise here. Being in Spain he knows his cebolla’s😄

What a great ride, it may be dangerous depending on how it's ridden but I can assure you it's way from Spains scariest road, which trust me are found on Northern Spains mainland, in the mountains, Lol. Im talking roads ten feet wide, no barriers, 1000ft drop and at least every 400 meters massive holes in the edge of the road the size of half a sheet of plywood, definitely not for the novice and I wouldn't ride them again from choice, especially when there has been torrential rain and the entire road is littered with football sized rocks, it was a few years back but the mere thought of them still make me clench! Great film. Cheers.

We have a lot of roads, probably wider than this, with far more traffic and our weather is different so we're already fighting a harder battle. We also have governmnets that would rather bung millions to their mates for stuff like dodgy PPE rather than use our money to fix the infrastructure we use daily. It is very fustrating, knowing what can be done (and probably cheaper) and seeing what we get instead.

If only it came with cruise and tubeless wheels , it would be perfect . The parallel twin motor is sublime and so much better than the Transalp , which I rode end of 2023 with CMT . The Honda lacks midrange and I was constantly between 2nd and 3rd gear whereas you could leave the Vstrom in 3rd on the same roads .

Hello, i went to Gran Canaria and did a motorcycle tour, i must be honest im sure these are great but i put it all together myself for Half the Price, im a travel agent so i know some hints and trips, id say if your confident you can do this trip easily by yourself but if not so im sure this tour is incredible. Roads are amazing

You can always rent locally and ride yourself of course, but Martin knows the island like the back of his hand and knows all the best routes, cafe's, viewpoints etc - and that sort of local knowledge is worth a lot.

@christophereaves7108 We travel to islands a lot, and I just don't see anyone being able to hire good bikes and get decent accommodation for half the price Canary Motorcycle Tours can do a trip. These guys even supply the fuel for the bikes within the package price.

I owned a couple of V Strom 650XT's and decided last year to 'upgrade' to an 800RE as it appeared ideal. The handlebar vibrations on the RE were awful, sent my hands to sleep. 600 miles later and the bike was gone, should've kept the 650. Went to GC with CMT a few years ago where Martin introduced me to pastel de nata at a coffee stop. I'd hate to count how many I've eaten since. Best wishes for '25 TMF.

I gave it a test ride and it was quite vibey and very hot on the right leg. Ended up on a used 1050XT instead.

I just bought a reduced bag of 4 from Sainsburys bakery - flaky pastry custard tarts, not v-stroms. On vibes I test rode a new SV650 and didn't like the vibes. I expected some being a V twin but it felt the wrong kind to me. Dealer suggested I'd prefer the GSX8-s, and I did. Much less vibey and handled a lot better. Didn't the V-twin charachter I was after (obviously, being a paralelle). Went for a Moto Guzzi V7 850 - just the right kind of shaking without vibes/buzz. I did like the GSX8s a lot though.

A lovely little sojourn in the depths of winter, I know you don't like to mention it.... but how is your shoulder?, you need to be A1 for the ABR

Sadly it’s worse now than it’s ever been David - three operations in the last 12 months and I’m back to square one!
