She wasn't being stupid in telling him, in her mind, she's in a fragile place, she just lost her fiance and is was vulnerable. He took advantage of her need to catch Kira to avenge Ray. in the end it was because of her loss that she fell for his plan.

Rule 42 of the book: "The use of the Death Note in the human world sometimes affects other humans' lives or shortens their original life span, even though their names are not actually written in the Death Note itself. In these cases, no matter the cause, the god of death sees only the original lifespan and not the shortened lifespan." I am not sure if this applies because her name WAS written but it feels to me that it implies shown lifespans do not ever decrease because of the death note, be it directly or indirectly After all how could shinigamis gain years if the lifespan always decreased to match the death note induced death? They gain "original lifespan - lifespan induced by the death note"

Ryuk may not have seen the number decrease dramatically, but he was not out of the loop. That Shinigami knew that the moment she started talking to Light, Light had a way of roping her in further. Her fate was sealed. Ryuk didn't need to rely on the number by then to understand that much.

Light is not just "some" kid following her, I think you missed some key details: When he arrived, the receptionist at the task force HQ knew who Light was, the son of the chief, a guy so smart that he helped the police solve two criminal cases in the past, someone willing to find Kira even before L himself. Moreover, she feels like a stranger there, since they won't tell her anything or let her talk to L, but Light "decides" to "trust" her, the closest to the task force she could be, hence why she's even more trusting of him. Also, as she said, Light has that aura that reminds her of L. All of that and the cute little lies from Light about being in the task force and recommending her to join, it is no wonder that she trusted him in the end. In fact, it is impressive that she didn't tell her real name earlier, a proof that he was an actual F.B.I agent, being still careful despite all of the aforementioned.

@@techfan1017 that's not it. Ryuk laughed because of her giving Light an alias instead of her real name. Light even mentioned that whenever he spoke about her name, Ryuk would laugh because he knows its wrong. Besides, your lifespan Is fixed. Remember when (spoilers ahead)... Jealous saved Misa from her attacker? He knew that it's her time to die, that's why he wrote her attackers name instead, giving his life for Misa. Extending her life thus allowing her to accept the shinigami eyes.

@@utopiandweller I disagree to a degree. While you're right about the lifespans - I think that's only when a Shinigami is using their book. I don't think that the Shinigami get the lifespans of those those taken under Light's influence, and thus can see their lifespans as affected by Light. Just a thought though - it doesn''t really go into enough detail about the function while under Light's control as far as I remember. I could be wrong though.

this was the best written episode of the entire show...this entire episode was just dialogue and back and forth between characters and they managed to crate a sense of thrill, suspense and dread and twists and emotional impact all in one episode without any big happening with the amazing pacing of the story...i freaking love this episode

Not gonna lie, this moment pretty much pissed me off. Not only was Naomi a great character, she pretty much cemented herself as the smartest character in Death Note to me here. It took her less than a day or two to almost solve the Kira case, and hadn't it been for Light toying with her grief, she would've won. I just wished they kept her alive, honestly. She would've been a good partner for L.

She was an ex-FBI agent. She is smart, but I think it wasn't her fault that she was able to manage to trust Light His reasoning was good, his father was the lead investigator, head of the police, he showed that he is smart too but in the cover of him working with L and the police.. not smart that you would suspect him as Kira The only way we know his secret because we are the audience. If you really put yourself in her shoes and only work with a hunch and a little evidence. Anyone would fall under Light's deceptions especially if you are somewhat emotionally unstable.

I was so pissed the first time I saw this episode. Like I understand Light's supposed to be charismatic, but I still think it was out of character for Naomi to fall for his bull. But, to be fair, if she'd survived here than the series would be over. I also love the chills I get when Light does succeed, so, you know, mixed feelings. Kinda would've liked Naomi to be a slower burn though, to have her show up more, last longer, and maybe see her interact with L as a vigilante type character. Maybe she could've even seen Light as another 'vigilante', a highschool student who she believes wants to find Kira of his own volition who reminds her of L, working with him for a time before she begins to become suspicious of him? I think that would've made her eventual death feel more satisfying? I feel like she was a great character that was really underutilized.
