If you saw my last video about my thoughts on whether the SV650s is a good first bike, we spoke about a possible handlebar conversion. Well now we have a Renthal handlebar conversion kit and it's been fitted. Stay tuned to the end of the video for an after shot of the new riding position.
I'll leave a link to all the parts used below.

Dude, I bought the ABM set after watching this video. I swapped it over today and you were right. What a difference! No wrist pain, better leg and back position. It's a game changer and I feel like I've got a new Bike. It's turned into a very capable little sports tourer. The kit was first class too. Thanks for the video. I've had my SV for ten years but it feels totally new now 😍

I'm just converting my SV650S with the ABM yoke. How did you re-route the clutch cable please?

Hey, Martin. The clutch cable had to get re routed through the frame. It took a bit of trial and error to get it routed properly.

Fanatic video...did you have to do anything with the fairing in terms of full lock maneuvers, is there enough clearance? Mechanic is worried about that. Any insights? Thanks
@MotoEcosse
@MotoEcosse 3 жыл бұрын
Hi mate. Yeah you can still get full lock no problem. The kit I use came with extended throttle and brake cables, then just had to re route the clutch cable a bit then it was all good.

I brought some drag bars off eBay for £8 and a longer clutch cable (for the non S model SV) and they fitted perfectly without snagging the fairing. All the wiring, brake pipes and other cables were long enough but the fairing mounted mirrors got in the way and had to be removed. I replaced them with bar end mirrors and that was it! Job done for £30. The bars give a much better riding position than clip-ons and they look great too.

Excellent videos dude, keep up the good work, subscribed! Just got my own SV. Did you have to change the clutch cable as well or was the stock one long enough?

Cheers bud, not had the chance to get out and make more videos but I will as soon as the weather allows it 🤣. I didn't need to change the clutch, just had to re route it. I had to change the throttle and brake cables though.

so i got a 09 svs lined up.. gonna have it dropped off tomorrow.. I was very uncertain, the clip ons i dont think help my 6'4 frame. But after finding the mods, this yoke conversion, the peg mods, I think this is the bike for me. Bike is a bit pricey 4800 CAD. I got him down a wee bit. its well kept, only 8k km. The only other sv in the province is 3000$, with 30k km. in my mind, still a great deal, the guy seems to only be selling due to his wife prompting him to get rid of it. This is also the ABS svs. as a new rider I think the abs is worth a little bit extra. I will try to bring the price down a bit more when the bike is on my court, with his wife in the vicinity. Any cent I can get will probably be thrown at this conversion haha

I brought 32inch drag bars for £8 that fitted without having to do any fairing mods. The clutch cable had to be changed for the longer one and I had to find a longer brake pipe. I had to drill 2 holes in the top yoke to fit 2 used handlebar clamps plus fit the brake fluid resivoir clamp to the bars with a jubilee clip. That was it and what a great difference those bars made!. Job done.

The vid has definitely pushed me over the edge of getting my K5 SV converted to handlebars. The clip-ons are lovely but I have lower tissue damage in my spine from getting rearended just before Christmas; and the clip-ons only really lend themselves to use when I'm pushing it and using more upper body positioning (which isn't happening enough to warrant having them). Plus the bar will provide a lot more leverage for counter-steering, which is nice. Your channel is really good, you seem to have more experience on YT than the number of videos you have would entail. Just hit subscribe, keep up the good shit
@MotoEcosse
@MotoEcosse 4 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the comment and the sub man. I'm glad the video has helped you decide to get them changed. I have elbow and wrist problems so the clip ons got uncomfortable after a while on the bike to the point where I wasn't enjoying it. Getting the renthal bars on is the best decision I made. Been out for hours at a time on the bike and not had a single issue. Hopefully if you go for the conversion it'll help with your back problems. Cheers.

@@MotoEcosse Just ordered the top yoke, throttle cables and clutch cable now. Would you happen to know the length of the brake lines? Gonna see if I can get Hel to make some up for me (I don't live too far from them, so won't be too bad for me to pick them up)

@@ItsBeenDanBefore That's awesome man. As far as the length go I'm really not sure. The kit i got included extended braided lines. I'll measure the lines in the morning and I'll let you know. I know they weren't much longer than the standard.

Hi mate I'm 5ft 8 and the clip ons are causing my back to hurt and all round the bike isn't good for long distance travel. I'm getting a conversion kit from topyokes UK. My question is how much more comfortable is the bike now and is it a good option if you travel alot? Many thanks dude
@MotoEcosse
@MotoEcosse 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Jake. In my opinion it definitely makes the bike more comfortable. The main reason I switched was due to the clip ons being so uncomfortable on any ride over an hour so. Sometimes even less. The straight bars do make it a more upright riding position, so it's way more comfortable and I've not had any issues even after being on the bike for 2-3 hour journeys. It almost turns it into a more of tourer style bike, but still able to get your head down and have a bit of fun on it.
