I just purchased a SVBONY SV106 - a 60mm Guide Scope for my Edge HD8 Telescope. It will serve as a Guide Scope when imaging and as a Finder Scope for visual observations.

Thank you for your thorough presentation. I bought one of these a few months ago as a guide scope and finder for my Celestron 9.25. I liked it so much I bought another as a guide scope that I move between my other telescopes as needed. It works great!

Update. I stand corrected. You can use this as a finder scope with a diagonal but the key to getting focus is to place a 1.25" 2x Barlow lens before the diagonal. I tried this on terrestrial objects and with the 2x Barlow it worked with both a generic 1.25" mirror diagonal and my Baader 1.25" prism diagonal. I can't say if this will get the necessary infinity focus for astro viewing yet as Scottish weather will not provide me with best astro viewing until the dead cold of winter. It can of course work as a straight through finder but if want to use as a right angle finder then the key is definitely the 2x Barlow.

Excellent! Thanks I am getting the same guide scope but the 50mm for my Celestron SE 6 telescope. This was very educational because most people go so fast it's impossible to understand anything they're saying and you just can't get nothing out of it. 😊

Thank you Pawan, I luckily now have the SVBONY SV106 in 50mm, I was so happy with it I purchased the SV208 50mm which has a red dot finder and its own focusing lens that I can use and swop around on my other scopes, again the build quality on both svbony finder scopes is outstanding. Both guide scopes were in the sales after christmas and to good to miss at £35.00 each. I did notice in the thumb nail picture you had a SVBONY camera in the guide scope, I'm using my older SV205 8MP as my guide and the new SV305 as my main imagery camera on the same scope, my problem is the old 205 camera is just to good for a spotting scope.! ( what a lovely problem too have ) grate video many many thanks for the new idea's.

Thanks Davey. I'm glad the video was helpful. First, the image in the thumbnail is taken from SVBONY manual. But, I received my SV 205, 8MP planetary camera today. I'll try this on the Celestron Omni AZ102 as well as on this SV106 60mm guide scope. Let's see how the images of moon turn out. I just wanted to spend very little amount of money instead of going straight to ASI585MC, which is nearly 5 times more expensive. SVBONY stuff is good for experimenting and learning. You really got the scopes for a very good price. They are to keep...for sure. Thanks again!

Hi Pawan, sorry for time lag and late reply. Yes the SV205 8mp was my first imagine camera which I purchased second hand at half price ( the seller was up grading and needed the sale to reduce his out lay ) thats a couple of years back now. This year's christmas present was originally just the SV305 Pro,,,,, but then the sales after christmas found there way onto my Mastercard as mentioned before. lol. insert nervous coughing noise hear..! Until my sweetheart finds out. Oppp's. And that's a Definitely YES on the new spotting scopes are for KEEPS..! Many thanks. David Clear Sky's everyone.

Just thought I would say I have purchased a 2x Tele extender (normally placed between a camera lenses and the T adapter). As this extender works like a Barlow lens then hopefully I can achieve same results as with the Barlow lens. The adapter has male and female T2 threads so can screw on directly to the 60mm Guide scope. The male thread of the 2x Tele extender can screw directly into a Baader prism diagonal. Optional if you want to use any other 1.25 inch diagonal 90 or 45 degrees then you can screw into the 2x Tele extender a short T2 Baader eyepiece holder and then fit any 1.25" diagonal. Hopefully this works, I will test this setup as when item arrives and provide an update. For now though a generic 2x Barlow lens will work at converting the guide scope into a right angled finder scope/mini telescope. The initial 240mm focal length with the 2x gives the scope a 480mm focal length. I have since my last revised comment managed to achieve a sharp focus on Jupiter and it's moons so astronomical observations can be achieved as well as terrestrial views.

@@AstroCrescentDIY Got delivery today of the 2x extender/converter but sadly the optic is further back in its assembly than a Barlow lens. Also the unit extends at the male T thread a little further out than the generic Barlow lens. Despite it all threading together and looking rather nice on the set-up then the converter was not able to achieve the focus I was looking for. To this end I have now ripped the label off the 2x Barlow lens (not overly keen on lots of graphics and texts) and assigned it permanently to my right angled 60mm Guide scope/finder scope set-up. The key to using that 60mm guide scope as a right angle finder is definitely the 2x Barlow placed in my instance before the diagonal. Hope the info. is useful to you. Peace 👍

Great review, I've been using the SV106 50mm as a guide scope paired with an SV905C guide camera for 10 months now. Never had an issue, and found it to be a solidly built little scope. I'll have to try connecting my DSLR, I'm curious if the chromatic aberration will be better than what I get with my cheap kit zoom lens! Clear Skies!

I tried what you did with the mirror diagonal but it can't reach focus as a finder. Another KZbin vid. can't remember which one, stated that these are designed to bring the focus for guide cameras and by trying to add a mirror diagonal it would extend the eyepiece beyond the ability to achieve focus. I can get focus with the ep if ep is directly connected as a straight through but not with a diagonal. Am I missing a trick here. Can someone correct me on this.
