Okay, Brian - I know you might not ever read this - but I just want to say this once and then move on. My Dad - to put it very mildly was not a good Dad, and I've put a lot of work in to not being like him. To do this I've needed examples of men that I admire, and the way you interact with the people in your life is completely and utterly inspiring. When I see you act well towards other humans, I have some sort of architecture of behaviour that I can embody and it helps me piece together a broader picture of competence, compassion and a full engagement with things around me. You're a good man Brian.

Prince, I can empathize with you. Although my dad was not bad, he was himself an only child brought up in a very 1800's family. I feel sorry for him because I came to realize he had always done his best with what he knew, and he did not get much education about being a husband or father from his family. There were many things he had little comprehension about one of which was being a parent/father. When us kids decided in grade school to change how we address our parents, from mommy & daddy to mom & dad, I believe that is when dad phased out tucking us in bed at night, good-night kisses and 'I love you.' After that, closeness was different, we were treated like 'little men,' a subtle change I did not recognize until I was an adult. And when he died I grieved for the fact we could never have a close adult relationship. I agree with you Brian is a good example of a good father, husband, brother, friend. Another person that I think is a very good example of is a friend I did not see often, Steven Covey, but he shared his beliefs in a book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Unfortunately Steven died following complications of a bicycling accident. Through out his book he tells stories of his challenges as a parent and how he made mistakes like we all do. It is very inspiring and I read his book often.

Great job with the wound care! You did great putting that kid at ease as well. I am an ED doc of 20+ years so I see all kinds of wounds. A few basic ideas for future use. Dermabond works best on flat areas that don’t flex at all. Think forehead. It also works best on clean cuts, not jagged ones. That said it will work for a little while to seal a wound and keep dirt out. But the main goal of closing a wound is to hold the edges together while it heals. Covering a wound with dermabond without pulling the edges completely together might even delay healing a little but I couldn’t see that close up well enough to say in this case. The body will close huge wounds given enough time and wound care, so that one would not necessarily have needed closing. Also closing traps bacteria and infection. I suspect it would have been fine with this one to just clean and dress with antibiotic ointment and let it heal up from the inside. That said, most people want a wound closed if possible so even though they often don’t need closure, people often ask me to do it anyway. So I sigh inwardly and stitch or glue them up. Cheers!

yeah,i hurt myself a lot ,bleeding from small cuts and bruises.People who are present freak out( Americans more than others,dont know why).I let it bleed nicely,tell them the blood desinfects it already,no need to put anything or use bandaid etc.Never had any trouble.

I had to have a pilonidal cyst removed that I had left for far too long. I had an 8 inch wound up my backside that had to heal closed. Daily care and keeping clean made the difference. I have a huge scar, but no more cysts.

I'm a surgical technologist of 14+ years and I gotta say that I'm impressed with how you cleaned the wound and made sure that you approximated the skin before applying the dermabond (of which we use in surgery). It was good that the wound wasn't too deep, otherwise suture would have been required. So great job! Your videos are an immense pleasure to watch and I only hope that some day I can sail the world like you wonderful folks do. I always wonder how you two stay so in tune being on a boat 24/7 together. I've never saw one ounce of tension between either of you not even an eye roll. Haha. He handed you that coke on ice and after all the years together she still replied thank you. I think to many people ( couple's) take each other for granted. If they lived your lifestyle they would be dependent upon on another for survival. Then the appreciation would maybe come back. I love how you two work together about every situation. Good job on the repair. A+ for the attention to irrigation and cleaning. People want to close the wound and get too focused on the repair and skimp on the irrigation. Sealing the wound with cyanoacrylate glue (Dermabond) is a bit risky because it seals the wound, and if not cleaned well you can seal in bacteria and foreign material. Also remember, petroleum products will dissolve it, typically someone puts an antibacterial ointment on the glue and ruins your repair, but gasoline, diesel grease, and petroleum jelly will as well. Good job Bri and Kazza. Saw you guys in Nap town a few months back but headed in opposite directions, same thing in Culebra two years ago. Gonna dinghy over one of these days. Cheers

It looks like your video is flipped when pointing at the "UFO", but that is Orion to the left of your hand making the UFO the star Sirius. It is super bright and is known to shimmer different colors. This affect is caused by varying atmospheric densities.

@@beisumino694 I suspect because they were pretty low in the sky, so you're looking through a great thickness of atmosphere. Air pressure differences would be like invisible ripples in the air, causing the stars to seem to move about. That should have applied to all the stars in that area, though...

@@beisumino694 Go outside and stare at the night sky without giving your eye a frame of reference like a tree or a house, stare straight up for a good 5 minutes. Eventually whatever you are staring at will start bobbing around and moving in circles and snapping around. Your eyes naturally move all around all the time and your brain keeps everything good by using known objects as a frame of reference. When you lose the reference your brain does not know where your eyes are pointing exactly and that natural eye movement is not corrected.

The flashing light looks like Saturn. When it's close to horizon and passing through more atmosphere the light is broken into colors like a prism. I have seem that exact thing through my old refractor telescope. Once I got a reflector, it was less pronounced.

Right now Jupiter is the brightest light in the sky and to its left one can see a much dimmer Saturn, both for most of the night. Later, Mars shows up in the east. All visible even in cities where almost no stars make it thru the haze anymore!!! The moon is beginning to interfere with these observations as she grows brighter....

Let's see where do I start? At 2:43 I learned that Delos' anchor is more than two feet wide. : - ) As far as the lights in the sky, it would be necessary to know the day/date, location, time and which way you were looking in order to tell you if the lights were bright stars or planets, or if they shouldn't have been there at all. But I will say that stars "twinkle" and can appear to change color due to atmospheric distortion. You can download Stellarium for free. It is a program that can show you what the night sky should look like at your exact position. You can set it to be equal to your actual time also. However, on a sailboat, you'll have to plug in your latitude and longitude unless you are near a coastal city/port. It has lots of (world wide) locations already included in its data base. Oh, and it was really COOL Brian how you found and fixed the problem with the ice maker!

I live out in the country so I can see the stars really well. There's always a few stars that look like they're flashing different colors & it's the same ones in the same place nightly. There's a reason for the appearance although I don't think the stars themselves are changing colors. I don't know the reason though lol

The changing colors (scintillation) is because you're seeing them through a big sideways slice of the atmosphere. If they're there every night, year round, they are not planets.

It was a star. One of the ways that we astro-photographers gauge the seeing is how low on the horizon stars don't "shimmer". The lower toward the horizon that the stars are not shimmering, the better the seeing is. This means a stable atmosphere is present and great for photography. Since you had rain the next day (per editing of your video) the atmosphere was likely becoming unstable and causing your phenomenon. Also, stars are direct light and planets are reflected light. Reflected light does not shimmer thru the atmosphere. So they were definitely stars. Next time google online planisphere to help you identify what you are seeing.

With regard to identifying things in the sky, I recommend that you download the free program "Stellarium". You can set your exact location, and then it will tell you what everything within your sight is. And as for Sierra... How ironic that you named a sailor baby after a mountain range. Plus, you're going to spend the next year and a half teaching her to walk and talk, and then the next twenty years after that to sit down and shut up....

If your UFO is just sitting there in the sky and moving roughly along with the stars, then it's probably a star or a planet. If it's moving slowly, it could be a plane or a balloon. If it moves crazy fast and bounces between points in the sky, alternately stopping and instantly accelerating, making impossible 90 degree turns at speed and the like, then you might have a "tic-tac" on your hands, and not even the US Navy knows what those things are. Well, at least not publicly. ;-)

I've seen Jupiter behave like that when it's low on the horizon. I see Sirius do that too just after it rises over the mountains to my south. But I couldn't tell you what you're seeing definitively without having been there and seeing the context.

Yes the lower on the Horizon that stars get the more they twinkle different color due to refraction through our atmosphere. The brighter the star the more noticeable it is.

marc varner nope a buddy of mine and myself were high one night. We saw this amazing twinkling light changing colors. My buddy swore up and down it was moving. I swore up and dow it wasn’t. So I downloaded a star app, coolest thing ever by the way. You can point your camera phone anywhere in the sky and it will tell you what stars are in the sky where the camera is pointing. That proved it was a star and this other cool thing called google told us why that star was twinkling so bright with different colors. This was in Uganda over Lake Victoria absolutely beautiful place.

My father worked for the US Weather Service back before it was NOAA in Norfolk, Va. One of his duties was to launch weather balloons to sound the atmosphere with small devices called radiosondes. One day back in the late '60s he and a buddy at the weather service strung a series of small water activated lights on one of the balloons and sent it up. Those lights took about 10 minutes to reach full brightness and would last about half an hour or so. They made the front page of the newspaper and also got chewed out by their bosses for all the UFO sightings that came pouring in. I think your UFO was likely Venus low enough on the horizon that atmospheric distortion caused the colors. On another theme: Cooking Channel announces "Cooking on Delos" a show for world cruisers and salty pirates.

Damn if I can remember who is doing it but there are ballons that are being launched to help cell phone service and they can actually be manuvered and steered using the winds at different altitudes and stay up for months at a time, there is a web site that you can track aircraft around the world and these ballons are on it.
