Free Diving with Sperm Whales, the largest toothed predator in the world off the coast of Dominica in the Caribbean.
Limited Print Long Sleeve SV Delos Sun 🌞Shirts featured in this video available now!- svdelos.com/shop
Our mission to film sperm whales in Dominica began one afternoon when we received a random email from Nate and Jordan. “Hey guys! We have an idea…. How about we approach the government and see if we can get a permit to swim with the whales there? Who knows…” Well, one thing lead to another and after months of planning we were able to secure the permits, the mandatory local guides, and even get some specialized gear to record their underwater communication. The next hurdle- how to we actually track them down? And if we are lucky enough to find them, then what? In this episode we answer these questions. It’s a bit of a departure from our normal videos, more of a mini-documentary feel to it. I’d love to get your feedback. Fair winds- Capt. Brian and the SV Delos Crew
Wanna bing watch? We have 6 seasons of videos going all the way back to the beginning of the adventure-

AHOY DELOS TRIBE! I know some of you wonder about our timeline, and what our editing process is like... What does it take to put together a video that we feel properly documents an experience we want to share? Is it a few hours, days, or even weeks of editing? It definitely varies on the type of content. Some edits are quicker than others, but on average I figure for every 1 minute of video there is 3 hours of production behind it. For example, this video required 7 days of filming and about 3 weeks of time to edit together. Everybody on Delos picks up the camera, and we all take turns editing footage which is how we are able to release a video every week, or most weeks anyway. Our filming is unscripted and we tend to record our experience as it happens rather than setting up our shots, which I think gives an interesting view of an experience, however does take a lot more work to do it this way. It's always a fine balance between producing the type of videos we feel passionate about vs. cranking out lot's of daily VLOG style content which is much easier to edit together. I just finished watching the "Our Planet" BBC series and was blown away when I found out that effort took an entire team 4 years to produce! That is a whole other level, and you can see the absolute perfection, quality, and passion in their project. I do think that the KZbin algorithm prefers more posts that are shorter in nature. Releasing more videos that are shorter is more mobile friendly, and ultimately leads to more views, likes, and subscribers all of which are factors in whether or not KZbin decides if a video is worthy of being recommended to you as a viewer. It's an interesting thing to consider and I would love to get your opinion on this. Did you like this video? Or would you prefer 2 or 3 shorter ones? I would love to hear your thoughts on this! Fair winds, and thank you so much for taking the time to watch and read this far :) . Capt. Brian And now a cheeky little message about something we're really proud of! We’re 100% crowd-funded and not beholden to the pressures of advertisers or corporate sponsors. We get to make the videos how we want, try out new concepts, and review products without a paid bias hanging over our heads. We are able to do this because we are supported by you- the viewer. If you'd like to consider supporting our production of these videos, think about treating yourself to our just released LONG SLEEVE SOLAR PROTECTION SHIRT. We've torture tested these both above and below the water for the last 6 months cruising on Delos and are happy to say they withstood our abuse! You can see them in action in this video quite a bit. They are perfect for protecting yourself from the elements, whether it be blazing sun with their 50 SPF protection, that nippy wind, or even those stingy little beasts that try and get you underwater. Plus the stretchy material is o-so-comfortable :) . Kazza did the design of Delos sailing on the globe, and Mr. Brady used his somewhat dubious photoshop skills for the marketing photos.... We had them printed ourselves so there is no middle man involved, all proceeds go to support The Delos Project! They are available in mens and women's sizes to fit all :) So get 'em while they're hot! svdelos.com/shop

Sailing SV Delos Hey guys, great video! I really like both video styles. Shorter videos about your daily life are just as cool as longer videos like this one with some special content. Keep up the good work and don't worry too much if there's one week without a video :) cheers from Germany

Sailing SV Delos yes we all love the weekly content but I get an amazing sense of joy when I see one of you videos is longer than 30 mins because I know it’s gonna be a special one like this... for me i have stuck with your channel because it’s great content, the vibes you have managed to keep on Delos, you inspire and teach me but one of my biggest hates on KZbin which has made me unsubscribe from many other channels is... adverts!!! As long as you keep away from them I’m your loyal fan weather you make short or long videos lol...

AHOY DELOS! I fancy one, but the sizing doesn't tell me what sizes they are! I'm after a mens version. My chest is 43" and I'm wearing a medium t-shirt at mo. but I'm guessing a large just to be safe?

Captain, Keep doing what you are doing. You have your own style and that's what makes your videos great. I don't see what the issue is if you are not releasing videos that are from the locations we see on Instagram as i see this question come up often in the comments and on your Q&A's. i would rather watch a better produced video that is from six months ago than a rushed video that is up to date. Also i love the longer videos but they obviously take longer for you guys to produce. In my opinion Delos is the most interesting Sailing channel on You Tube. It has a great mix of diving, partying and exploring. You guys do a great job.

I hear you Brian, sometimes we get so obsessed with capturing our travel experiences for others that we have to pull away from the lense and live in the moment and see it with our own eyes. Its for this reason I don't film during my travels. I understand this channel is something different, but I think its really important to be present and in the moment in life. I really enjoyed the video. I must visit Dominica!

One of the best episodes I've seen. Seeing and hearing the true excitement in your voices was priceless. As for the format, I prefer the longer weekly format. A few other channels I watch switched to shorter more often video's and I found that I started to skip some of them. Yes, KZbin may prefer that format, but I know I have probably missed some of their good content because a video every day is just too much unfiltered stuff. Keep up the good work. It may take days to produce, but it is worth it!!!

Great episode Delos. I know you are having alot of reflections towards which format to go with. I know delos would never go for a certain format just to increase the number og views. And the longer episodes are great too. BUT the way I use youtube and get my better half to watch along week after week is easier when you make shorter stories. 15-20 min epsiodes tend to be more concentrated and focused.

I've resolved that issue by clicking like before I watch. I know I'm going to anyway.

Of all 222 videos, this is my favorite!! The editing is phenomenal, the story line, build up and anticipation to finally getting in the water with these just amazingly majestic mammals left with me in awe with tears of joy. I must do this some day! I just booked a week on a 60 foot ketch where we will sail around the Bahamas and dive all day but now I'm questioning an adventure to Dominica. What to do?? As always, thank you so much for sharing another epic adventure with the tribe! Forever grateful... Forever inspired!

Omg I'm watching all of your videos and just loving all of them on fortunately I can't sail but I love watching your videos but this video was the most important video of any of them that you've ever posted because it shows the real way to free dive in snorkeling and breathing it's so important people think that they can just put on a tank and just go down there and see fish but there is more to it. Thank you so much for posting this video it really is the most important video that you've ever posted.

Awesome video. Bucket list! You guys are an inspiration to me. Your videos keep me going when I don't want to work any more overtime. But I know it's boat money so I keep it up. I started diving in the PNW because of your adventures and hope to meet you someday. Thank you for the inspiration. Happy Independence Day!

I think all of the Sailing SV Delos productions are very high quality and make interesting and informative videos. Producing the type of videos you feel passionate about will shine thru in the end product and ultimately keep your channel the number one sailing channel on KZbin. I don't know how KZbin ranks your videos compared to others like Sailing La Vagabonde or Sophisticated Lady. The number of subscribers or views per video do not do you guys justice in terms of comparing the quality of video. Now I am going to log in and buy one of those long sleeve solar protection/rash guard shirts that have that great SV Delos graphic on the back.

Absolutely awesome. Yes, it is different, but in a completely positive way. It is complimentary to, and supportive of, the "standard" great Delos videos. Just a really special treat! Thank you so much for sharing it with us!!

If you are serious, one of the keys is to do some deep breathing to drop your CO2 before you start.
