But what the flag stands for is most gradual: Our democracy. Our self determination. The freedom to shape our own future. "
Tonight, the Royal Family gathered to go a motorcade together for the National Day celebration at Skansen. There the King distributed flags and banners and held a ceremonial speech.
Later in the evening, the Royal Couple invited representatives of parliament, government, the official Sweden and parts of the diplomatic corps to a reception at Kungl. The castle.
The National Day was ended with a tapto of the Armenian Music Year at Logården.
The Royal Palace
Welcome to one of Europe's largest and most dynamic palaces. The Royal Palace of Stockholm is His Majesty The King's official residence and is also the setting for most of the monarchy's official receptions, open to the public year round.
This combination of royal residence, workplace and culture-historical monument open year round to visitors makes the Royal Palace of Stockholm unique amongst Europe's royal residences.
The palace is built in baroque style by the architect Nicodemus Tessin and is formed as a Roman palace. The palace has more than 600 rooms divided between eleven floors with a state apartment facing the city and smaller living rooms facing the inner courtyard.
The palace contains many interesting things to see. In addition to the Royal Apartments there are three museums steeped in regal history: the Treasury with the regalia, the Tre Kronor Museum that portrays the palaces medieval history and Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities.
During the summer months the Royal Chapel is also open, as well as the Riddarholmen Church - the royal burial church five minutes walk from the Palace (combination ticket available).
