Nearly every day I listen to this wonderful Allegretto played by a dear friend of mine,a very good pianist...but Sviatoslav Teofilovic plays it in such a way that it seems he is speaking to us,saying beautiful things...

Enchanting. He makes you forget that he is a great pianist.

You are absolutely right! A little bit less than half a year ago I discovered Sviatoslav Richter on KZbin and my god I am deeply impressed by nearly all of the performances by Richter. He is phenomenal! All he touches becomes gold, whether it is Bach, Händel (very beautiful on KZbin by CMRR, suites for piano, with Andrei Gavrilov), Beethoven, Schumann, Schubert, Moussorgsky( titanic version of Pictures at an Exhibition), many of the Russian composers! His scope is the widest/biggest of all the piano players. He is the best communicator of all, very sensitive and poetical without all the showing off of many others. Completely autonomous, not caring about how and in which tempo things "should be played", but performing how his heart and soul and brains tell him how to play it. I love that and have the deepest admiration for the hero and maestro Sviatoslav Richter!!!

No frills, no disgusting rubato, just music!

What's wrong with rubato? When tastefully employed, it adds depth to the performance of a piece. Richter is constantly criticized for "playing with" the tempo and rhythm, slowing here, speeding there.

So simple and so beautiful! I don't know if it is schubert's music or is it Richter's music.

Schubert wrote

It is both. Without Schubert (or other composers), Richter could not express his own soul to us. Without a performer like Richter, Schubert's music would remain squiggles on a piece of paper. The composer and the performer become one in the performance.

Théâtre immortel d'une âme ...dans le quel Richter se confond avec Shubert. Indicible comme l'invisible.

I just wrote the same thing, Jean-Marie, without realizing you had already said it--and much more poetically than I did. Merci.

etwas boring und wenig expression möglich. Richter spielt hier dadurch auch ziemlich uninteressiert
