Sviatoslav Richter - Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff recital (Moscow, 1981)

Sviatoslav Richter plays Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff, in a recital at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, in Moscow, 1981.
My commitment to the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts began while I was still studying at the Moscow Conservatory. Then, I absolutely fell in love with the Museum of New Western Art, first located on the Kropotkinskaya street, but which subsequently merged partially with the Museum of Fine Arts. There was a time when the French impressionists opened for me a totally different understanding of not only art, but also nature. This museum keeps enriching me with an abundance of art from all human eras. I warmly welcome the idea of Irina Aleksandrovna Antonova, the wonderful manager of this institution, to organize here concerts. The feast of the concert becomes even bigger, it grows into a special event where Music and Art get close together. My wish is that this tradition would continue in the future, and I hope that all the artists will be glad to perform in the Pushkin Museum, which, by the way, already proved "The December Evenings"of year 1982. - S. Моя приверженность музею Музею Изобразительных Исскуств имени Пушкина началась еще в годы занятий в Московской Консерватории. Тогда же, я абсолютно влюбился в Музей Новой Западной Живописи, который находился на Кропоткинской, а потом частично влился в Музей изобразительных исскуств. В своё время, французские импрессионисты мне совсем по-новому открыли глаза не только на живописи, но и на природу. А потом этот ветхий музей меня обогощал и продолжает обогощать изобилием исскуств всех времен человечества. Я горячо приветсвую идею Ирины Александровны, замечательного руководителя этого дома, устраивать концерты в его стенах. Праздник концерта становится еще больше, вырастает в особенное событие, когда музыка и живопись рядом. Мне бы хотелось чтобы эта традиция продолжалась й в будущем, и я надеюсь что все артисты будут счастливы выступать в Музее имени Пушкина. Кстати, это уже и доказали Декабрьские Вечера 81-го года. - C. P.

Everything Richter did he did with total commitment and honesty, no performer had greater artistic integrity. One may not have been always convinced by some his musical conceptions, especially some of his chosen tempi. Nevertheless most of the time Richter took his audiences on a wonderful and compelling musical journey. Thankfully he left a huge recorded legacy.
