Thanks for the head to head comparison. I bought the PB-3000 a few weeks ago and have been dialing it in with REW (along with help from SVS engineer Ed Mullen). As pointed out in other comments below, room placement is key and in my case I incorporated my 2 prior smaller and less powerful Definitive Technology subs to address the mid-bass nulls my room was experiencing. Very pleased with the results! Thanks again, and keep the great content coming!

You would have seen the difference if you actually measured with rew. At the limits, the 4000 simply has more, with less compression. For large rooms needing higher pressure levels, it can make all the difference. Below the threshold, sure save the cash by buying only what you need.

@@ThatHomeTheaterDude I agree. I have Dual PB-3000s and Dual PB-4000s and both sound good. The PB-3000s hit harder from about 20hz to 80 hz but when it comes to digging deep, the PB-4000s are quite a bit deeper and rumbles a lot harder. Plus, on Fury, during the scenes when the tanks battle, the PB-4000s leaves the PB-3000s behind. However, the PB-3000s are an excellent buy, especially for the performance and the weight difference. Personally if the PB-4000, because of its shear power would go lower, I would definitely not mind paying the extra $400.00 and go for the PB 4000. The ultimate and most decisive quality in a subwoofer ( of course that is completely personal ) would its ability to produce a "deeply" satisfying deep notes. I got your exact setup but with 115sw. It makes a difference if you like a super deep bass. The way I have mine amp is full towers with the center 110hz and the 115sw at 80 and below. I like the subwoofer to blend the kick/punch with the towers. I'm seating at 14 feet away. But if I wanted to I could increase by a lot the output of the bass on the sub and it would be drastic that there is no need for the towers to throw any bass at all. But the wife does not like excessive bass, so for me it does not make a difference.

Your test was quick... but I believe that the filter is set to 20 Hz mode in the pb-4000 ( as you have all the port open ) which would definitely roll off earlier than the filter which is preset in the PB 3000 with two ports open ...the filters make a big difference which would make the PB 3000 sound deeper as it's standard filter does not roll off as early.. I think a better test would have been to set the pb-4000 to extended mode with two ports open also... that would have been a more even test along with the same placement of course.. I've measured myself using REW with my personal PC 4000s and the filters do make a difference definitely as far as HOW the subs roll off.... also the power output makes a difference too.. the PB 3000 May have been pushing the Driver Harder more quickly as it approaches it's compressed limits... which might explain why your couch was shaking.. maybe the standard filter setting in the PB 3000 sounds thicker than the standard setting filter in the pb-4000 which rolls off earlier... but with that said... I believe if you run at 20 Hz test tone with all ports open on both Subs separately... the pb-4000 should easily come out on top... Just my thoughts... ☺

I have the pb3000 and thinking of trading up to 4000 duals but theyre telling me im good with the 3000
@randysalsman69923 ай бұрын
Yeah you're good, well at least from upgrading to the 4000's because the upgrade is small and the biggest part of it is in looks. If you were to upgrade you'd need to go with either the 16-ultra or the new 17-ultra coming out, that is if you stay with SVS. Me, I have the same as you, I have the PB-3000 in duals don't know if you do or just have a single, but if I were to upgrade again, I say again because I upgraded to these from dual PB-2000's. So if I were to upgrade again I'd definitely wouldn't just do a small upgrade like my last, I'd be going endgame, so I'd be upgrading too dual JTR's, probably the captivator 4000's.

So this is now a year old. Good vid, I'm building a house and planning to replace my current SVS sub (it's 13 years old) with one or two subs. Obviously SVS is under consideration, with the dual wound voice coil on the 3000 series, do they have something new/upcoming on the 4000 as well? 3000 seems like a compelling option but would appreciate the tighter response of the 4000, don't want to buy and have it immediately obsolete.

So this is not the first place that I heard the PB-3000 keeps up for the most part to the PB-4000. Just from you hearing these subwoofers first hand could you give me a recommendation which sub would sound better in my room. The listening area room dimensions are 14 x 22 with 7 ft ceilings. The ceiling is a drop panel ceiling and the flooring is carpeted concrete. The actual room size is pretty wide open. 14 x 39 feet. There are no stores in my area that have SVS demos☹ so there's no way audibly I would be able to hear the difference for myself unless I buy each one and send one back. I would be pairing them with klipsch rp8000 towers and rp504 center. Yamaha RX-A1000 receiver. I'm an absolute lover of bass to keep that in mind. Plan on buying 2 of whichever I decide on.
@ThatHomeTheaterDude5 жыл бұрын
Thats no problem. SVS offers 45 day in home trial period. if you dont like one of them just send it back. they pay for shipping on the return. Im thinking with that big room size the 4000 may be the best bet

@@38special4ever I can't find anything under $200. Any suggestions ? I am looking at older amps just because the price is affordable for me. If anyone knows about a good amp that is 250w or up for under $200 used, please give me make and model.
@JoshM75 жыл бұрын
You could get a used pro amp possibly. Or try a Behringer NX1000, I believe it does about 120 Watts each channel at 8 ohms, 200 Watts at 4ohms, and 300 at 2 ohms. Or bridge both changes and it can do 600 at 4 Ohms and probably 400 at 8Ohms. (There's a Dyno of the old model, but the new NX is just a reskin) I know it's above your $200 mark, but I can't search for used amps as that's area specific.

Class D is best for subs. for speakers class D is a poop shoot. I dont need anything in particular to the Arcam, I just wanted a once over to see if its still in peak form
@JoshM75 жыл бұрын
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude That's not correct, class D is used for speakers all the time and there is nothing wrong with modern Class D amps (that do it right) Yamaha HS5 is bi-amped class D for example. -I'll admit though, I assumed it was for subwoofer duty so that's why I recommended it.- There is a video on the Crown XLS pro amps that praises the sound quality of them. They are Class D (Different amps than the NX1000, but more expensive too) google "crown xls sound quality" and it's by Andrew Robinson . EDIT Sorry, editing because I though I was replying to the original poster saying it wasn't for a subwoofer, now I'm all sorts of confused. Didn't read who replied before making my own reply lol.

Svs 16 ultra is the dad the 4000 is the mother 3000 2000 and 1000 are the kids. All depends on your room size and type of bass you want. Tight bass is nice but loose ported bass is good too would be a very hard choice man. Just wish i was there with you too hear what you hear man.

Did you not say the PB 3000 was on a higher gain level then the PB 4000?? So the 3000 has to run higher to get the same results? There’s so many variations in this comparison, gain / placement / isolation feet, it’s never going to be equally measured. I have the PB 4000 & that thing shakes the crap out of my house, let alone the couch.
@ThatHomeTheaterDude5 жыл бұрын
They were both normalized to the same volume. the 3000 just has to be run a little hot to reach the 4000 performance. The 4000 has more headroom though. I know Its not 100% perfect and that is why I mentioned all of that in the video. If you want, do the comparison yourself and see what you think
