Thank you Steve! Great review. The reason why I and others ask if a 500$ speaker compares with a 1500$ is because some of us have a wide budget range, and want to know how much of an improvement can more money buy you due to law of diminishing returns. If we can get 70% of the performance of an expensive item with a cheaper alternative then I think its fair to compare a 500$ speaker with a 1500$ speaker. After your Polk Audio 200 review I decided to buy a used pair of ls50 meta for 1100$ (3 days old), My budget was 400$ to 2500$ (Q Acoustics 3030i to KEF LS50 II Wireless). I decided against the LS50 II wireless because I saw reports of people having many issues with the version 1, and I didn't want to deal with any downtime, as I use my speakers everyday.
@KingOath3 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure I see the sense in this. Don’t you want the best speaker you can afford? If you had a budget of say, $1500, wouldn’t you buy the $1500 speaker even if it was only 5% better? Because at the end of the day, better is better, and it’s still within your budget. The way you described it, you are willingly buying a speaker with lesser performance than you could have had within your budget. Now you have saved some money, but for what? I know this is the way the average person looks at the average financial decision, but aren’t we enthusiasts? It just seems kinda strange to be a hifi enthusiast but also to put saving money we didn’t need to save before sound quality

Hi Steve. I'm waiting for my SVS Prime's to arrive. I can't wait! One thing you didn't mention, and this may or may not be relevant, the return policy and warranty from SVS is very generous. If I don't like them I have 45 days to return, no questions asked, full refund, and free shipping back. There is a 5-year warranty. And lastly, the customer service was simply excellent when I spoke with them. I truly appreciate the company's philosophy and perspective on audio world. Anyway, I truly appreciate your reviews and education. Congrats on reaching 200,000 subscribers - you deserve another 200,000!! John, Seattle

I love the way you review products. I get the most out of finding new records to listen to, but I'm also interested in how you describe a sound or how the speaker reacts to different types of records. However, that's not to say I don't listen and take note of the speakers you're reviewing. Some time ago, I saw the glisten in your eye as you talked about the Amphion 3LS. So they were added to my list of speakers to audition for my next upgrade. And, here I am today, watching this review after having just taken delivery of a pair of Amphion 3LS speakers, and a 5C centre for movie watching, and now I can listen to Wilco and Beck and hear for myself what you heard in these speakers. I love them already, by the way. Take it easy, Steve, cool stuff!

Hey Steve, just a little fyi, Klipsch RP-600m's are available in Piano Black from two special vendors, as noted on the Klipsch.com website. A few months ago the Piano Black's were the same price as the standard finishes, but the RP-600m's are on-sale right now at a deeper discount than usual for $472 per pair. Keep up the great reviews, I'm a huge fan!

Glad you clarified the best term in this hobby. It gets tossed around even in professional reviews often. And by those online asking for recommendations. It's really overused and I think folks get lazy and some just want to be told without doing much work what is the best when truth is it's much more complicated as Steve mentioned. It's like buying anything such as a car, phone etc. Their is no best with those either. Just different. And that's not including how it plays with other components in a system as a whole. Looking for synergy with speakers and components as a system is something overlooked in this hobby.

I wonder whether the SVS Ultra Bookshelf is a notable step up--and how it would compare to the LS50. It's surely a bit closer in price.
@moniack2 жыл бұрын
I got some Ultras in the outlet store during a sale for $200 off, so the price difference wasn''t that much compared to Primes in gloss black. I saved $400 because of a miniscule scratch on one- the other was a return and has some scratches on the bottom.. I have not heard the Primes, but the Ultras are supposed to be just better all around.

Pretty sure I would not like the SVS. Clean sound? Lots of speakers can do that! Especially any expensive two way! Clean? Good luck to you. If it ain't musical, it ain't worth it, lol! And, of course, that's PRETTY subjective. What does it all mean. Well, one, it means I'd NEVER buy a KEF LS50, never! Not my sound. Klipsch? OK, definitely have to love that sound, me, not so much. The Polk, probably more in my wheelhouse, I suspect! Something to be said for a little LESS clarity especially considering that so MANY recordings are less than perfect. Audiophiles? Who ever really hears what THEY hear, lol. And then they get old and still think they can HEAR that, lol! Age is a cruel master, it laughs at your memories and mocks your old ears. So listen while you're young. Then when you're an old geezer, buy a set of Elacs or something similar and a decent 8" sub and well, you're probably good cause your ears are not getting any better.
