I had no interest in speakers or home audio equipment, and yet I have binge watched this channel for 5 days now and feel quite comfortable that I could hold a conversation with any audiophile and at least fake it long enough to get a free second hand CD of their favorite unknown artist that they are dying to turn people on to.

Randy is down to earth and pretty honest. I don't agree with him that bookshelves are the way to go if you want full sound. I think bookshelves should stop around $350 and if you want big sound get floorstanders even if you're an audiophile.

@@kohnfutner9637 I agree except for the price point. Considering the tweeters in my towers are 400$ a piece at retail, and a good high excursion woofer from Morel or SEAS can set you back 500$ retail a piece in the enthusiast level price bracket, I’d say that a top of the line bookshelf speaker should be a 2-way unit for no more than 1000$ a piece. That way you can decide between a top of the line bookshelf with a good sub(an sb or pb 1000 is fine for pretty much any home system IMO) for 2500$, or a midrange set of 3-way towers for roughly the same price. That’s endgame hifi price bracket for me.

Having listened to them now for a reasonable length of time, I can honestly say they are the best speakers I have ever owned. That may not mean much, but for the first time I have experienced 'sound stage' and 'imaging' that you often describe, with these speakers. Thank you again for your reviews and recommendations. Great review! I'm a big SVS fan. I own a SB-3000 sub, Prime Bookshelf and Ultra Bookshelf speakers. I agree with your assessment of the differences between the Primes and the Ultras. I'm a (retired) drummer/percussionist. Drums/percussion are also my true test of a speakers capabilities. Cymbals generate extremely complex sounds and dynamics, and are really challenging for a speaker to reproduce. Like you said, knowing what cymbals SHOULD sound like is very advantageous when evaluating speakers. The SVS Ultras do it very well. Full disclosure: I recently switched out my SVS Ultras (in my home office) for the Harbeth P3 ESR XD bookshelf speakers. The realism of vocals and instruments will blow you away! However, at a price tag of $3,300 per pair, they are not a good candidate for the "cheap audio man". But, if you ever get a chance to hear them, do it!
@swinde3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your confirmation of the fact that cymbals are very hard to record and reproduce. I noticed this years ago and have yet to actually hear a system that sounds like a live band when the cymbals are prominent. The larger cymbals have a low frequency component that can be heard when they are live. It is hard to describe but it is there.
@DanzoSrife2 жыл бұрын
100% agree! ANY 16bit recording of cymbals sounds like crunchy cereal to me, but this dvd audio was so good , smooth and highs extended that it convinced for life, what real audio is. Hiya I have the pb2000 sub and I’m sitting on the fence before I bite the bullet. In your humble opinion the Svs speakers paired with the sub for music is it a yes or would you recommend anything else?
@CharleyClose2 жыл бұрын
@@kerkiraz hi Gary. I have the SB-3000 currently. I traded up from the SB-2000. I prefer the tightness of the sealed sub, especially with music. I currently use the SB-3000 with Harbeth P3ESR Bookshelves. It sounds incredible! I’ve also used my SB-3000 with SVS Prime Bookshelf and SVS Ultra bookshelf. Those systems also sounded great. I even hooked it up with my JBL Studio 590 towers. Also sounded wonderful. I really do think the SVS subs will blend with any speakers. The secret is getting the blend right between the sub and the main, and the crossover point. Once the setup is right, you won’t hear bass from the subs position. It will blend with your main speakers, and seem to extend the bass on the mains. You don’t want to hear bass coming from the subs position. The SVS website has a good subwoofer matching tool where you put in your main speaker brand and model, and it will recommend SVS subs to use, along with crossover frequency and roll off slope. Works pretty well as a starting point. Best of luck!

Yes, trying to decide on something in the $600 range to replace some old JBL speakers in my den (double duty for music and movies paired with a modest Polk sub)....SVS Prime, Ultra, Wharfedale Diamond 12.2, or the ELAC Uni-fi B5.2....His review of the B5.2 makes it sound like a very hard to beat speaker. Just hard to believe a little 5" woofer can deliver such sound....
@erics.41133 жыл бұрын
@@rosswarren436 they do. I just bought them and klipsch rp600m. Although both sound dramatically different, there is no size envy between the two and I would even say the smaller ELAC have better bass. Not more. Better. And I've recently added a sub to the mix and it has improved both to my taste... I like deep fat bass. I'm also loving both with tone controls. You can boost the low a little on each speaker and they sound better in my opinion.

@@rosswarren436 I always end up replacing bookshelves with full range towers and my rooms aren't that big. Are you sure you want bookshelves? Don't think 5" is going to magically fill a room with incredible bass- it won't. If you want powerful bass I suggest getting floorstanders. I think most reviewers over rate bookshelf bass:. They can be impressive for the size but don't expect miracles: expect to get maybe a little more than you expect but not much more. A few examples: I went from Klipsch 600m to 280f and it's a drastic improvement. I went from Elac ub5 to JBL studio 580 and again much more impact. Bookshelves just can't do the impact, dynamics or room shaking bass that a full range speaker will. If you want big sound you'll need big speakers take it from me. I have moved my bookshelves to the rear. I don't play music loud and I like audio purity, I'm not a basshead, but I have yet to be satisfied with bookshelf speakers.
@rosswarren4363 жыл бұрын
@@kohnfutner9637 I went with the Diamond 12.2. They have a 6.5" mid-woofer and get down to 50 Hz, a bit lower with extension. But yeah, I don't expect bass miracles from them, that's why have have them paired with a Polk subwoofer rolling over at 80 Hz. For my den, they are all I need. But I hear you on size and scale. In my living room (about 12' x 22') I have some floor standers...some ancient Acoustic Research AR-9 speakers, but they need new capacitors to bring them back to spec and to make playing them safe for the tweeters. Because of that I'm considering some others to use until I can get around to that chore of recapping them. Thinking of the Wharfedale Linton or maybe one of the Paradigm true floor standers. Klipsch is great, don't get me wrong, but I prefer a slightly warmer, more laid back presentation. If I do get the Lintons to tide me over, I'd probably end up with a SVS sub too, then sell them to my nephew if and when I can get the AR-9s going again. I think many like bookshelf speakers because they visually don't overwhelm a room, are easy to move if you want to experiment with placement affecting the sound, and are cheaper overall. But yeah, at the end of the day, bookshelf speakers on stands take up just as much room as floor standers, and the money spend on stands (which can be crazy depending on which ones you choose) is money that could be put towards a floor stander.

I’ll turn them up and bam! I’m impressed again. The imagine is good. The sound these produce is impressive for their size. After listening to these for 2 years, I’m still unsure if I want to do a 3.1 setup with all ultra or try a different brand and use these as a stereo speaker set for another purpose. I love mine and do not regret buying them. These really shine on piano, vocals, and acoustic versions of songs. That’s where they impress me. I can FEEL the music on acoustic songs. For instance “Bowl for two” by the expendable sis much more enjoyable in the acoustic version vs the regular version. I agree with what you said about Adele Hello. Also the 14 second mark of Metallica. Also the beastie boys. I listened to these and paused this video when you mentioned them. Spot on. I agree what you say about turning them up. Each guest received a gold pocketwatch. The military gave 19-gun salutes. John Philip Sousa conducted music, including the "Foshay Tower-Washington Memorial March," a march he wrote for the occasion. Foshay presented Sousa with a check for US$20,000....Foshay's check to Sousa bounced, and in retaliation, Sousa prohibited the playing of the march so long as Foshay's debt to him remained outstanding. It wasn't until 1988 when a group of Minnesota investors repaid Foshay's debt to Sousa's estate that the march was permitted to be played in public again.

“The Object” from the Led Zeppelin album “Presence”. Probably not your everyday Obelisk, but I think Sith audio would agree that it’s an Obelisk.

Recently watched a dac/headphone amp video of yours and wondered if you've ever checked out any of FiiO's offerings. I've had a FiiO K5 Pro for a while now and use it solely as a headphone dac/amp and so far I quite like it. I got it for 179 euro's but idk how much it is in the US. It's also got RCA out's which are volume controlled by the knob on the front so it might be a decent dac/pre amp for speakers too. Maybe it's something for you to check out,too

Randy I wish you could check out some: 1. Dali 2. Aperion 3. Tekton Design 4. Ohm 5. Magnepan 6. B&W I know they're not all possible but maybe you have some tie to one of those brands I just wanted to make a request.

I just caught this video for some reason and my primary question is this: is that some framed '50's Bondage Porn hanging on your wall? Not judging!! You do you, it's all good. Just curious is all.... And my favorite Obelisk is...... (drum roll from back stage left) The one that The Who pissed on for the cover of Who's Next, of course. Too easy. Anywho.... Ciao!

I ordered the Prime Satellites by mistake. Part of that was due to their pricing as each had me confused on the price point, the other, how similar they look. I think they should better emphasize by calling them SVS Satellite Prime versus SVS Bookshelf Prime. I couldn't find many reviews on the satellites. I cannot think of any context where I would have a satellite and not wish I had a different speaker occupying that wire, and likely, at a fraction of the price. I sent them back. I don't know if I will ever own SVS. They seem to be like buying Harley Davidson Motor Oil. If I buy a champagne product, it better have the performance that doesn't embarrass me about my purchase. That probably means it must be an SVS Subwoofer. I am not sure how any of their other products do on the Price per Performance ratio. You can count on a SVS Satellite to filter AC noise. Its 69 Hz bottom wont reproduce the hum. Filtration via limitation.

Great review as always Brother! Several obelisks all over Philly where I can from. They are definitely interesting. How are the Svs with the vintage amplifiers?

Hi thanks for this! Q. I’m looking at getting the Emotiva C1+ or C2+ centre channel but not sure if the C2 price hike is worth it? Have you listened / compared these. I’m kinda on a budget. Looking for best bang for the buck. So my new setup once everything comes back into stock would be: Receiver: Onkyo TX-RZ50 Sub: RSL Speedwoofer 10s L/R: Emotiva B1+ Center: either C1+ or C2+ I’m going to use old Bose Acuoustimass for sides, rear and atmos as I’ve heard spending more money on those is not worth it. Thoughts on this setup? Is there something I’m missing or should swap out? Thanks

Another of my favorite guys doing my speakers oh it's a good day. Just wanna say I got them for so cheap I didn't care if they sounded that great but boy did they was a good surprise. I think some of it has to do with me already having a denon avr heard they are a Good match so got lucky with that

Id be really curious to hear your thoughts on some of Edifiers other offerings, like the Airpulse lineup or more specifically the S2000mkiii. Ive had the S2000mkiii's in my office/man-cave setup for a little over a year and have been more less blown away by these, especially as active speakers. These were the first set Ive had(Ive had several other active speakers) of which made me feel that powered speakers are finally getting to where they should be. Id argue these rival some of the mid and higherish end passive bookshelf speakers yet at a fraction of cost.

Thanks. It sounds like it's hard to quantify. I think it would've been nice to make an attempt though. The impression I get is not quite twice as much, maybe 30%?

I know these are very different speakers but which would be better in general? The klipsch rp8000f or the svs ultra bookshelf speakers? I would pair them with 2 svs pb2000s

Favorite obelisk? This one from Stargate: Universe. "The Obelisk is a massive 2000 foot high structure built by an unknown alien race who created both a planet and a star. Its origin and purpose are unknown, though it did emit a faint EM field. There were some markings that indicated that an alien language was written over the surface of the Obelisk." I think for the price I'd rather have the Primes and an sb-1000 than the Ultras.
